Purely by accident one day while shopping at a big box crafting store, I found that the little flared votive candle holders will fit the top of a medium size mason jar.  The votives were just around the corner from the jars, and on an impulse I decided to see if one would fit.  You do need the flared top ones, the straight ones aren’t wide enough at the top to stay in place.  This opened up a wealth of possibilities for all kinds of themes and choices for what to put in the space at the bottom of the jar.

Fill the bottom of the jar with items that coordinate with your table setting, in this case I used a bit of tulle and a silk yellow rose.  Sit the candle on top.

Replace the metal ring to hold it all together.

It looks nice with the candle lit.  I use unscented ones on the table so it won’t interfere with the delicious aroma of my meal.

Easy to change, you can have mason jar candles to coordinate with different tables and seasons just by changing what is in the bottom.  Here, red silk roses go with a Vintage Summer Fun table.

A pear with a cinnamon stick go with this springtime table.

A Blue and Yellow Tablescape is enhanced with blue and yellow flowers in the bottom.

For a Christmas Cookie Exchange, golden apples and a pretty bow make a festive accent.  The post has cookie recipes too.

Want to get a bit fancier?  You can embellish the metal ring with beading that would go with multiple themes.  Here the red and gold would work for several holidays.

The only limit is your imagination, and the size of the items.  Anything can be used, from buttons to small artificial fruits, toys or flowers, just whatever will fit.  Colors can easily be changed, natural materials like small pine cones or acorns would work nicely too.  And since the candle is in its own glass container separate from the bottom, no worries of anything getting burned.  Have fun!!
