First Spring Cookout – A Blue and Yellow Tablescape

Warm weather, finally, and a clear, calm evening was perfect to invite some friends over for a meal over the weekend.  We love sitting on the veranda, enjoying the evening air, watching the sun change the colors in the valley.  Of course, this calls for a grilled meal, and I found the perfect thick center-cut pork chops at the store on sale.  Pairing those with a wonderful salad of fresh spinach, lettuce, tomato, avocado, dried cranberries and Monterrey jack cheese, along with baked potatoes, we had a meal.  Naturally, I needed a tablescape for the outdoor table, so I gathered some dishes and other things.

I was inspired by the cute container of blue lobelia, with its blue and yellow flowers.  So a blue and yellow tablescape was in order.  (K.R., I can hear you laughing and no, I don’t have a fever!)

I still love those lemon plates, so I used them as the salad plates.

I pulled out my blue plastic glasses for water.

I have two blue napkins that worked nicely for a bit more blue in the tablescape.

Using my Mason Jar Votive idea, I filled the jars with blue and yellow silk flowers, adding the flared votive with a candle.

I found in a later post that the rings will fit to hold the votive glass in place.

I made two of them, one for each side of the table.

Yellow napkins with crystal patterned plastic napkin rings, and individual salt and pepper shakers complete each setting.

When there are only four of us, we seat our guests on the same side of the table so they can enjoy the view.

The table setting is gorgeous in my two favorite colors and I sit here in 40 degree temperatures in Illinois yearning for a true spring!

Good Morning Carole. Your table looks fabulous. I really love your lemon plates and your blue cups. The view I am sure is beautiful. You make such beautiful tables. I love to grill but I never do mainly because I dont know how. My sisters ex-husband used to be the family bbqer.

    Enjoy your nice spring weather.

We’ve had one at our new house since we moved in May 1st. Nice evening, but mostly it’s been too cold still, rain and snow! My son grilled for Mother’s Day, but we ate it indoors… I’m looking at the still snowed over peaks west of me outside our windows right now, and more snow predicted higher up this week.
But the new house has a north side pergola, so will be used a lot in the hot summer here.
    LOVE the dishes, Carole.

  4. Good Morning Carole! Your table setting is beautiful! I think you chose all of the right pieces for setting the table. Your blue napkins do highlight and add depth to your flowers and pot; the votive candles are another special delight. I also think it is so fabulous that you have individual salt and pepper shakers for each of you! Plus, the way that you seat your guests to be able to absorb and enjoy the scenery is a splendid idea. Thank you for sharing and have a fantastic creative day!

    SO GORGEOUS
Such a talent for decorating. I love blue & yellow together. During my years, I have had several kitchens with these colors.
AND, I do like to dine alfresco.

  6. I love a meal outside, especially if it entails sitting down at such a pretty table. Blue and yellow are one of my favorite color combinations. I also love your lemon plates. I’d be using them at every turn as well. I hope your meal was as wonderful as your table!

  7. Hi Carole, Your table settings are beautiful and the view is divine! Love the lemon plates, too! I’ll have to check out how to make those Mason Jar Votives which are just perfect for outside living! I’ve always loved individual salt and pepper shakers – must be a Southern thing! Blessings, Janet
