Because this is my favorite season of all, I have a lot of autumn inspired things to use in the kitchen and on the table. I adore these salad plates with the leaves, purchased some years ago when Pier 1 still had stores. The pumpkin bowls are also years old, and I get them out every fall for cereal in the mornings, and soup on chilly days. For this season, once again I challenge myself to create a new table using only what I already have. I wanted more color, so the burgundy tablecloth came out, topped with a little single block table topper I made before I started blogging.
The leaf salad plates are set on white dinner plates with burgundy red chargers.
My leaf placemats anchor the plate stack, with the matching napkins held with gold beaded rings. I got out the gold flatware as its warm tone is perfect for fall.
Pumpkin bowls are placed for use as salad bowls or for soup.
In the center, my little pie pumpkin from my garden this year sits on a bed of silk leaves and pine cones with pumpkin pics.
Crackle glass leaf candle holders flank the pumpkin, with unscented tea light candles inside.
All set for a fun lunch with friends on a two day retreat at my house. We had a Mexican casserole on the plates the first day, then Ham and White Bean soup on the second day.
Placemats are a fun way to sew up a quick Autumn project. I did these Pocket Placemats as part of a Fat Quarter Shop blogger event a while back. The side pocket holds the flatware and a napkin.
These Flying Geese placemats were part of Autumn Jubilee in 2019. The flying geese frame a fussy cut center scene. Projects for Autumn Jubilee stay free on the blog as long as my blog is here.
Of course, placemats need batting. Have you tried Hobbs Tuscany Batting? I love the wool!! The cotton poly blend is perfect for placemats. My favorite batting is their Cotton Wool blend for quilts, all the comfort of cotton with less creasing.

Most of my quilts are for infants/children so I usually use a poly batting for it’s quick drying characteristics. I have used 80/20 for other quilts.
I too love the colours of Autumn–until the wind and rain remove the colours from the trees and deposit them on the lawn!! I usually go with Hobbs 80/20 batting but would love to try the Tuscany.
I just love the little pumpkin bowls and the placemats with the pocket!
I have been using 80/20 cotton poly for years because it was available in our area but since you gave us a sample of the cotton wool blend to feel at our guild meeting, I think I want to try it when I have a special quilt to make. A VERY long time ago, I made some Fall pumpkin placemats using a charm pack and little yardage from Kansas Troubles. Besides the fall pattern, it also included motifs to make 3 other holiday placemats. I always intended to go back and make the others, especially each year when I bring out the Fall ones! My go-to batting is 80/20.

My favorite is the 100% cotton, but like the cotton/wool blend too.
I usually use all cotton unless I need a black batting. Hobbs 80/20 black was the first time I tried a blend & I was quite pleased with the result. Also, it was a large quilt & I rented time on a longarm to quilt it. Between the extra loft in the batting & the regulated stitches it’s one of the nicest quilts I’ve made.
I have not made fall placemats yet but plan to. I do have lots of runners and table toppers. I absolutely love your pumpkin bowls – they are so cute!

When I lived in FL, I made some special placemats with an ocean theme. I fussy cut them so I would get the best part of the fabric! Time consuming to say the least but a great outcome. The batting was a blend and made all the difference.

I use Hobbs 80/20 more than any other batting. I would like to try their wool or wool blend sometime. Love your table settings!
I like the Soft & Bright line from Warm and Natural for the smaller quilts. No fall placemats have been made but I have several table runners, mug rugs and candle mats with another fall themed table topper in progress.

Have recently tried some bamboo batting for a hand quilted heirloom, but to be honest usually default to 80/20. Would love to try my hand with a wool batting!
I have used a lot of Hobbs Fusible Cotton Blend batting in my projects. The fusible makes it so easy to get my projects sandwiched and all layers stay put while I quilt it together. It’s awesome stuff! I haven’t made any placemats for Thanksgiving, but I have made a few table runners.
I have always loved your fall tablescapes ever since I started following your blog – especially those pumpkin bowls! They are just so fun! I almost always use Hobbs 80/20 these days, but would love to try the wool batting sometime.

I refer warm and natural to work with but find it isn’t warm enough for sleeping with. I tried washable wool once and unfortunately it was from a bad batch. Years later it is still pilling and my son doesn’t want to use the quilt.
I have washed the quilt with the wool batting twice now, and it does great. Certainly today’s process is much better than it was years ago. I had a horrible wool once, but the Tuscany is a premium batting that is wonderful.
My favorite batting is wool. The stitch definition, noncreasing and insulation properties are awesome. I want to try the Wool and Cotton blend.

I’ve always liked a thin cotton batting or an 80/20 cotton/poly blend, but lately I’ve been exploring washable wool.
Hobbs 80/20 is my go to batting, though I recently also purchased some Tuscany cotton/wool and am anxious to try it. Autumn colors are my absolute favorites. I’ve made many quilts and wall hangings and even little stuffed pumpkins with them, but haven’t made any placemats. I really should add them to my to do list. I love all your tablescapes and quilting ideas, Carole. Thanks for the inspiration.
I have always used cotton batting and have never tried Hobbs but hear nothing but good things about it so I want to try it.
I haven’t made fall placemats yet but we are currently using one set of Halloween placemats I made. I plan to make placemats for each season/holiday.

I have been trying different name brands and types of batting recently. I need to find a “go-to” batting for larger quilts that is thin so that the quilt will be easier to quilt on my domestic machine. I will add this Hobbs to my wishlist at Fat Quarter Shop and purchase the silk or wool to try for a larger quilt. Thanks for these cute tutorials, also!
I’m amazed at your extensive collection of dish ware!! Your table settings are simply beautiful!! My Mom used to say that we take our first bite with our eyes. In your case, guests are well fed before they even taste the wonderful food!!

Cotton batting left over from quilt projects.
In the past, I have used warm and natural, then went to 80/20 and am looking forward to trying wool and / or wool blend batting. I have heard that it cuts way down on the fold creases. This will be a great thing for me as I have to store many of my quilts / table runners.

As a longarmer I have used several types of batting but none of the customers have brought me the Tuscany cotton/wool. Would love to try it.
I am thinking that THIS is my fave on the tablescapes, but honestly, I seem to feel that way about most of the new ones……! LOVE THEM.

Your tablescapes always make me want to go out and buy some new plates, smile. I used to buy tableware like some women buy shoes but I’ve pared down and sold a lot of my excess pieces at a garage sale before we retired and move west.
I LOVE Hobbs Tuscany wool batting as do my sewing machine needles. I just used Quilters Dream wool batting on my Pumpkins and Cream quilt and I plan to wash it, along with my Christmas quilt that has the Hobbs Tuscany Wool batting and compare the two with how they wash and dry (following label instructions).
For my day to day quilting for quilts that may go to a home where they get thrown into the washer and dryer like any kind of clothes, I like Hobbs 80/20 Cotton Poly batting. I didn’t know that they made a Cotton/Wool batting so will have to look at that. I have an order of Quilters Dream Bamboo/Silk/Tencel/Cotton batting arriving today to try on my finished Daybreak Quilt. I want to see how that quilts up and washes. It’s supposed to be very lightweight and very drapey when used a quilt. If it’s easy care, there are two Debbie Maddy Shibori throw quilts that I’m making for a friend and her husband where I would like to use it.
Hobbs 80/20 is a great batting for most any use. I would like to make more Autumn theme quilt items to decorate my home. A few years ago I made a small table top quilt and 2 fall table runners. Thanks for all you share.

I have used 80/20 but would love to try wool /cotton blend. New to me for sure.
I use a cotton batting and haven’t tried any of the others. I don’t have any placemats but yours are beautiful that now I’m thinking I should make some. Your tables are always amazing with your different settings. It’s fun to see your decor.

I have used and liked the Hobbs 80/20 as well as the fusible version–great batting!! I have a fall Leaf table runner on my dining table right now. Will soon put on a Halloween one.
I haven’t tried their cotton/wool batting yet, but the wool batting is wonderful to stitch through and nice and soft, too. Your tablescapes are always so pretty, Carole.
I like to use bamboo fiber batting, and yes, I’ve made fall placemats, but they are orange and blue prints in a pineapple pattern as my moms fave color is blue. Still fall themed!
For the most part I am making charity quilts so I use Hobbs 80-20. 50 quilts donated so far this year I am on a “roll.”
I use 80/20 batting most often. I buy it in large rolls because I make a lot of quilts. I have also used wool and it is wonderful. I have made fall placemats but it’s been a while, maybe it’s time to make some new ones! You have such wonderful ideas, thanks for sharing.
We have a round table, so rectangular placemats aren’t a good fit. I have one go to pattern, and have made reversible ones for all year. And I usually use cotton batting.

I absolutely love your tablescapes! Do you have a butler’s pantry to store all your lovelies? I use all cotton batting, mostly Warm & Natural. I make alot of flannel quilts, and this batting does not add extra bulk to already heavy quilts. I have had good results with it. I have a long, 6 ft table in the dining room and prefer to make/use seasonal runners for it instead of placemats.

Lately I have been using 80/20 cotton poly batting. I have used wool batting but not the wool cotton blend. I’ll have to try that next.

I have been using Hobbs wool batting for a few years, it is great.
I have used gold fuse, 100%, and have purchased insulbright and bamboo. I also have a cotton that I plan to use for a wall hanging. Do not have a favourite yet because I need more practice. Placemat for fall would be nice to do because I haven’t made any so far. My practice pieces have been small table mats.
