Finishing up the sew-along for the Fat Quarter Shop’s Blog Remix event, the Pocketed Placemats pattern is on Jolly Jabber, the FQS blog. I am delighted to be a part of this fun event. Over the last three weeks we’ve made the tops and sewed them together with batting and backing, then turned them pillow case style.
Now, choose a complementary thread for some topstitching.
Top stitch in the ditch between the side pieces and the center block. This is just to keep the layers together. If you like, you can do more quilting, but this is a sew along so we will keep it simple.
Then sew a line of topstitching around the edge, catching the opening to close it.
And, that is it!! All done.
Ready to serve as holiday decor on your table, with napkins and flatware held nicely in the pocket.
As reader Pat in WNY commented on the last sew-along post, these would be ideal for rolling up for a picnic on a warm Autumn day.
Change the napkin color to change the look. These leaves can be used all through Autumn! Now I need a second set with flowers for spring.
Thanks to Fat Quarter Shop for including me in the Blog Remix event!!

I hope you enjoyed the quilt along! Check out Jolly Jabber for more blogger versions of this classic pattern.
Note for regular readers and followers, the Teacups Quilt Along will be postponed this month to Monday to make room for the Carolina Hurricane Quilt Project update tomorrow. If you’d like to see the Teacups so far, use the category links on the sidebar to see all the Teacups up to this point in the quilt along.
The pocket is a unique feature to these placemats. Idea for spring….think tulip shape for your florals or daffodil. I think both could be done with Half Square Triangles. 🙂
Hi Carole! These placemats turned out so well. I love the idea of a roll-up for a picnic. Such a great idea! Happy Thursday to you! ~smile~ Roseanne
Great look for the Autumn tablescape. I wish I could accomplish as much as you do in the sewing arena. Great sunny Fall day here-hope the same for you!
Your placemats look great! I finished mine yesterday !
Love the placemat pattern and seasonal themes will be easy to implement! When do you have time to breathe? Thanks again for another great Autumn Jubilee!!
Nice finish(es) Carole!!! You put together the best looking table on the net!!!
As always, these are beautiful Carole. Great colors and a pretty design!
Beautiful placemats. I love the design, fabric prints and of course, the Fall colors. Total #CreativeGoodness. I need to make a set.
Hello Carole, These placemats are great! What a brilliant idea for adding the pocket for the utensils! I am sorry but I am so far behind on everything, my head is spinning trying to get it all going in the right direction. LOL. We also have family visiting from Wyoming and had to get the fabric/guest room all cleaned up and organized. I almost forgot, but Kevin has been asking me to give you a Turkey’s Tails Up and a Gobble Gobble because we had a whole bunch of 12 turkeys visiting us the past few days. Plus, about a mile down the road from us, in a particular field the deer and turkeys have been taking their dinner time together. It is really quite funny, yet just beautiful and relaxing at the same time. Thank you for always sharing such spectacular posts, Carole! Have a fabulous day!
Your placemats look great, Carole! I decided to go Christmas-y with mine!!
Pretty and practical….got to be happy with that.
