Autumn Jubilee Quilt Along Week 3

I hope you are having fun with this year’s Autumn Jubilee Quilt Along. Now that we have all the blocks made, layout of the top is next.

If you are making the same size as I am showing, please note that in the photos, the pumpkin blocks should be switched. This will separate the pumpkins from the flying geese on the lower left, and keep the other ones from forming a diagonal line with the apples. If you making more blocks for a larger quilt, lay them out and take a photo so you can see where there might be better color distribution or lines you wish to avoid.

Also, be sure that your flying geese and leaf units are pointing in different directions. This creates movement in the quilt top design. I assembled mine using the Web Method I’ve shown before.

Add the background borders.

Next, decide on backing and batting. I used Quilter’s Dream Green. It is a wonderful polyester batting made from recycled soda bottles. The pale green does not show through the lightest color of fabric. It quilts beautifully, and will not shrink.

I loaded it on the longarm with a pumpkin print backing from the Benartex Harvest Festival line.

I quilted it with the Turkey Talk placemats by adding the placemats to the end. I used the same pantograph across both projects. Before quilting, I stitched the edges of all the projects down. Then, I could quilt across several pieces in one pass.

This pantograph is called Meandering Pumpkin Patch from Urban Elementz.

With small projects, quilting is very fast.

Quilted and trimmed, it is ready for the final finishing.

I would like to urge you to try Dream Green, a wonderfully soft poly batting that creates a market for recycled plastic.  I love quilting with it! Recycling plastic only really works if we buy the products made from recycling. From the Quilter’s Dream website – “Each pound of Dream Green Batting keeps 10 plastic bottles out of our landfills. Plastic bottles are cut into chips, washed, melted and extruded into fine polyester fibers. These recycled fibers are indistinguishable from ‘virgin’ polyester fibers yet are made without depleting our precious natural resources. To avoid additional processing we have kept the soft “natural” green bottle color – but you can rest assured that Dream Green is colorfast and compatible to all your finest quilts and projects.” If you are local, Beginnings Quilt Shop now carries Dream Green along with other Quilter’s Dream Battings.

Returning sponsor Quilter’s Dream is awarding THREE twin size battings this year (Dream Green, Dream 80/20, and Dream Bamboo) to one lucky winner.  Find Quilter’s Dream Battings at Fat Quarter Shop and Amazon. Visit Quilter’s Dream and comment on this post, which batting would you most like to try that you’ve never used before?

I have used the Dream Green batting and love it! I haven’t tried the Dream Wool yet but wouldlove to!

  2. Sharon Dawson

I would love to try the Dream Green and the Dream Bamboo. Both sound very interesting. I love to recycle and what better way than to quilt with it!!!

  3. Deb Sendelbach

I’ve never tried wool batting before. I have an all wool quilt I made and want to purchase wool batting to finish it.

  4. Kathy Cornell Baumbusch

I have a longarming business and Quilter’s Dream is my absolute favorite batting. I think I’ve used all of them over the years except the 80/20 fusible. (I’d probably only use the fusible for small projects.) I can’t recommend Quilter’s Dream batting enough!

I would love to try the Dream green !
What amazing products are coming from recycling …. & saving the planet at the same time…

I’ve tried the Dream cotton and it was wonderful to work with. I’d love to try the Dream Bamboo which is a combination of bamboo, silk, cotton and tencel. They say it’s easy to sew through and feels very light. Sounds great!

  6. Joyce

I’d love to try Quilters Dream Fusible 80/20. I prefer fusible batting over spraying batting with some fusible.

  7. I love the Quilter’s Dream products. I’ve used their bamboo, wool and cotton, but have not tried the green yet. If it’s as good as their other products, I know it’s a winner. Your fabrics in your quilt are so pretty, subtle and fall looking.

This has really been a fun QAL this year with blocks that are perfect for Autumn! I’m finishing up my small tabletopper in a different layout from yours, but using the same blocks. I’ve never tried Dream Green batting, but would definitely like to. You are so right – we need to use these products made from recycled plastic so there continues to be a market for them!

  9. Sandra

Would love to try the Dream Green and Dream Bamboo battings. I have used the Dream 80/20 and 100% battings and they are lovely to work with.

  10. I’ve just gotten a quilt back that was quilted with the QD wool. It’s beautiful and lofty. I’d love to try the Quilters Dream Bamboo. The silky drape of it is interesting. Love the AJ pattern this year!! 🙂

I would like to try the Dream Green. It’s important to not only recycle, but to use products made from recycled materials as well.

  12. Kathryn Laposata

I’d like to try Quilters Dream Fusible. It might make shorter work in getting the layers together. Thanks for the giveaway.

  13. Colleen Konetzni

Taking care of the earth is something I have thought my children as they were growing up! I would like to try the Dream Green. Wondering what kind of dreams we will have sleeping under it.

  14. Sandy F

Quilters Dream Fusible 80/20 is the only batting I haven’t tried yet. I regularly use the wool and recently opened a roll of bamboo.

  15. Niki B

I would like to try the dream green batting. Great way to recycle plastics.

Your quilt along project is very cute.

I need a time machine – the boys went back to school but have half the days off in no apparent order. Feels like I’m chasing my tail! Finished 2 quilts for charity made from the panels intended to be books, oh my – adorable but not even close to square! Eager to start a project that I can start from scratch. Thanks for the wonderful descriptive pictures!

  17. Paulette

Dream Green is a really nice batting, we have used it for our QofV quilts. I have also used their wool.
I would like to try the Bamboo- I’m sure the quality is as good as the rest of their line! Thanks so much for these opportunities to explore new items- and maybe win too!!

  18. Shirley

I have used some of the Quilters Dream products but haven’t used them all. So would like to try both the Dream Green and the Bamboo. Thank you.

  19. Joye Cox

I would like to try the Dream Poly, mid-loft. I have used Dream Green and some other Quilter’s Dream battings and liked them all. Thanks!

  20. I usually pick an 80/29 batting in whatever brand I can get my hands on. But I really want to try the Dream Green. Because, Carole is correct! I spend a lot of effort recycling plastic! So, I’d better use the results when available!

  21. quilterpt

I have never used Bamboo batting. I mostly use 100% cotton like warm and natural. Your quilt is so perfect for the season as was your choice in quilting design.

  22. Debbie Miller Meyer

I have used Quilters Dream Cotton Batting before and love it but have never tried the Dream Green nor tried any batting with polyester. So, I’d be interested in trying the Dream Green. I love that they are Made in the USA! Thank you for the giveaway and for your putting this all together Carole!

  23. Barb K

I have used Quilter’s Dream Green before and like it–I have not tried the Quilter’s Dream Bamboo and would like to try that!

  24. Kathy E.

Oh, how I love how your quilt is coming along!
I’ve heard so many good things about wool batting, so I’d choose to try Quilters Dream Wool product.

  25. Susan G Case

I have never tried the bamboo batting, but I would love to try it. I like the idea of a product that is sustainable and comparable to other fibers.

  26. Nancy C

I love your tip about quilting the placemats at the same time as the quilt! The Dream Green sounds interesting or maybe the DreamBlend.

  27. lee

I would love to try the dream bamboo. I usually use the cotton batting. Thank you and your sponsor for their generosity!

  28. jrp53

I am anxious to try the Quilter’s Dream 80/20. I do wish the fusible came large enough to make the king size as that seems to be the size I end up making. I would like to try the fusible on my next baby quilt, maybe.

  29. Donna Flanery

I would like to try the Dream Green simply because I cannot fathom batting being made out of plastic. I definitely believe in recycling, but as you said, if we don’t purchase things made out of the recycled materials, then we’re not really doing our part.

  30. Elizabeth Kelbaugh

I make an effort to recycle so am interested in more use of recycled products and would love to try the Dream Green batting.

  31. Darci D Marshall

Even though I’m not sewing along I love the progress on this quilt! I’m also a huge fan of recycling so thank you for putting this product in front of so many people!

  32. Patti Zeggert

I would like to try the Dream Bamboo, as I have always used 100% cotton batting. Thanks for the opportunity to win one of these products!
