Sunday Chat – Finally, It’s Fall!!

It is officially fall! I hope it cools off more soon, as I am really ready to pull out my fall sweaters and woolly socks. I am searching the forest for changing leaves, and waiting to hear the geese flying south overhead, honking as they go. I am ready for chilly mornings, crisp and sweet like the apples grown in our county orchards. I am ready for pumpkins, and the colors of autumn. It is time to get out the fall decorations, and put out some rust and gold. I started with the table, choosing a golden ceramic pumpkin as the focus of a centerpiece, on a fall table mat, with silk leaf garlands and crackle glass fall votive holders.

The table has a white base cloth to showcase the gold theme. Gold napkins are held with wood rings.

My pumpkin bowls sit on square, gold, stoneware dinner plates, with gold chargers. My usual finishers of crystal drink glasses and individual salt and pepper shakers, along with everyday flatware complete the simple settings.

It has a fall mood, but really just a simple table.

Small quilts from previous Autumn Jubilee events add to the decor. The little table top stand has a pumpkin topper and holds the 12-inch mini-quilt we made in the very first Autumn Jubilee in 2016. Find those stands on Amazon – Table Top Quilt Stand. Brown candles with della robia candle rings and a wax leaf candle complete the vignette. On the wall, hanging with the wood quilt hangers is the machine Embroidery Wall Hanging from 2020.

On the guest bed, you can fold a fall quilt at the bottom, or use a table runner as a bed scarf. A couple of the wool applique pillows we’ve made in past Autumn Jubilees are placed as an accent.

While setting out more autumn things, I was walking around the den and kitchen with the Welcome Autumn mini quilt in my hands and whining about having no place to hang it. Looking at me and the blank refrigerator door, My Sweet Babboo said ‘”how about putting it there with some magnets?” Brilliant. It has little pockets on the back that the magnets could go in.

We tried a couple of different magnets, eventually finding two that were strong enough to hold the mini quilt in place while opening and closing the door.

Doesn’t it look great? It’s a bright splash of fall color on our black refrigerator.

On the pie safe and the small table in the kitchen, fall leaf runners add color.

In the sewing room, I put Autumn Celebration on the wall, pattern now consolidated to one pdf available on My Patterns page. I have a curtain rod mounted near the ceiling with ring clips so I can easily change out the quilt on display with the seasons. The one lying on the rail of the longarm was placed on my treadle machine.

On the library chairs, and in the den, fall color quilts grace the backs of chairs and top the ottomans. A table topper covers the side table, with the bowl fillers we made last year in a little basket, a pottery piece, and a book on the table. The book is First Frost by Sarah Addison Allen, a perfect fall read. More wool applique pillows are in the chairs.

The next thing we need is the aroma of baking pumpkin bread. My Pumpkin Orange Bread is a favorite, with the hint of orange bringing out the brightness of the pumpkin flavor.

Winter squashes are beginning to appear in the stores, and I look forward to making my Cheesy Baked Acorn Squash soon.

One more thing to let you all know, apparently WordPress has changed its look on the comments. It now says ‘login to comment’, but you do not have to login. Just start typing your comment and the usual boxes appear for email, name and, if you have one, website URL. If you are using an email that the Gravatar app recognizes, it will ask you to enter your email password in order to use that email to comment. This is to protect you from unauthorized persons commenting with your account. It is NOT my blog that is requiring this, and I cannot do anything about it. To get around this, open a new tab in your browser and log into your email. Then reload the blog page. This should allow you to comment. If it does not, and you have a WordPress blog, there is a known problem with some of the plugins blocking commenting. You’ll need to change your password, then contact WordPress to identify the plugin on your blog causing the block. Or, use a different email that is not associated with your blog. If you once had a WordPress account associated with your email address that you no longer use, go to Gravatar and delete it – https://en.gravatar.com/support/deleting-accounts/ , this may get rid of the login issue. Time to pull out the pumpkin quilt & other Jubilee projects. My favorite colors & season is autumn and I’ve had an autumn colored quilt out all summer. Unlike many areas of the US, we did not have a hot summer & this light weight quilt was much appreciated. Last week I made a dachshund quilt using brown & gold stash fabrics so it’s quite seasonal. It’s such a silly quilt, even makes my husband laugh.

I love your tablescapes! Just out of curiosity, how many sets of dinnerware do you have? I’ve got my mom’s Haviland Pasadena china, her Fostoria America glassware, Pfaltzgraff Winterberry dinnerware, and I don’t use it like I should. Maybe I’ll set a Christmas table this year in December. Thanks for the inspiration. I hope you didn’t have any problems from the last hurricane/tropical storm that went through

Love all of your fall decor. It’s my favorite time of year and I too am looking forward to some cooler weather. It’s been in the 70’s and kind of muggy lately, not the crisp fall weather I am craving. Very much looking forward to seeing all the projects you have cooked up for jubilee!

Carole, I love all your fall touches, especially the little tabletop quilt and the mini wall quilts. Yes, brilliant to use magnets and put it on the fridge!
I ran into that issue with WP, and missed commenting on several posts, waiting to be at my desktop to login, only to find it wasn’t necessary after all! Happy Fall!

  5. All of your decorations look great Carole, and I love your pumpkin bowls in your tablescape. The small quilt looks cute on your refrigerator! All the quilted pieces are beautiful and I want to make acorn squash this week, yummy!

  6. Carole, what a charming array of autumn decor. I love the mini quilt on the refrigerator. Your quilts are beautifully displayed on tabletops, chairs, and folded on the bed. Happy Autumn!

Happy Fall! It definitely is feeling like it in Durham.
I love the pumpkin bowls every year, it’s almost pumpkin soup time!

  9. Diann@ Little Penguin Quilts

I love seeing all of your fall quilts and decorating ideas – time to get mine out! I love hanging a little quilty something on the side of the fridge, too. And pumpkin bread – your recipe is my all-time favorite. It’s the orange in it! Looking forward to Autumn Jubilee!

  10. It all looks like autumn at your house. I do love the fall colors, but I am not a fan of the cooling temps and shorter days. I should have been a hibernating critter!!! Love the idea of using magnets on the minis. I have stainless so that wouldn’t work, but I could use them for the dishwasher.

  11. Looking forward to Autumn Jubilee! And a bit sad it will be the last. Nights are getting cooler so I’ll need to finish the binding on my Autumn Jubilee quilt so it can go on our bed. As each season begins, I always say it’s my favorite.

Oh my goodness Carole. Your home looks absolutely spectacular. I love fall, too. Although in Florida, we don’t get much help from Mother Nature. Looking forward to your presentations for Autumn Jubilee. Enjoy Autumn!

Fall is my favorite season! Enjoyed seeing your fall quilts and inviting table. I’ve pulled out my autumn quilts, table runners and wall hangings. Am working on a stacked pumpkin embroidery wall hanging and can’t wait to finish and hang it.

I too use magnets to hang many of my quilts e.g. toolbar magnet bars from Harbor Freight fastened to the wall coupled with a metal curtain rods in the quilt sleeve. Makes it easy to switch out the vertically hanging quilts.

Thanks for the First Frost book recommendation!

Butternut squash soup is a fall favorite here.

Looking forward to the surprises in store in Autumn Jubilee!

I decorated the entire house for Fall this past week. It takes me a couple days to get everything where you want it. It’s so warm and cozy now. While putting everything out I realized I never made a king-size fall quilt for our bed. I have to do this for next year. I wanted to ask if there are instructions for the leaves/pumpkin 12“ mini quilt from Autumn Jubilee 2016 some where on your blog. I need to make that as well.
    Can’t wait for Autumn Jubilee!!!

  15. Happy welcome to fall and your home looks so inviting. Your pumpkin orange bread looks delish! I don’t seem to have a problem leaving a message but I now understand why I may have on a few other blogs. Thanks for the explanation.

  16. Blogger always seems to have a problem that sometimes affects all, sometimes only a few. I’m sorry (but also a little relieved) to know that WordPress has its issues too!

As for your home — well, Carole, it is the quintessential autumn home — a gorgeous table, beautiful decoration with your quilts, all made with great love and skill, and delicious sounding food. I have a little fall up and probably will start to bring up a bit of Halloween today, as I might be gone for the first or second week of October and I want to enjoy it. But mostly, bring the rest of fall. I do love the colors! What a lovely post to start my day!
