The Square Dance Mystery Quilt Along has completed. We did the steps – Bow to Your Partner, Bow to your Corner, Come Down the Middle, Allemande Left, and maybe even Do-Si-Do over a six month quilt along. It is amazing how these patterns seem to name themselves, it just becomes so clear as I am figuring out the design. Or maybe I am just a bit nuts. Anyway, I hope you had fun Scrap Dancing again, with Square Dance. As promised, there were no half square triangles, but we did learn something new, bwaaaahahahahaha!!

No combination of HTML is working, Blogger says the image url is invalid and I have tried every code that flickr has. I have so many scraps to choose from and lots of 2.5″ squares too. I think I will let the scrap choice guide what I will eventually pull for light A. I figured 1 yard up to twin or 2 yard up to king is needed if cutting from stash for fabric A. I would like to see your fabric A as the photo of the fabrics all together made it hard to determine if it was the more solid looking white or not.
My Fabric A is the bottom bolt of mostly white with the scattered dashes. Now that I have the quilt mostly done, I wish I had used a tone on tone with even more contrast, so I advised that to readers.

Thank you, Mary, for figuring the math for Fabric Cut A!! For those who wish to use yardage, here are Mary’s numbers.
1/4 yard for a table topper
7/8 for a lap quilt
1 1/8 yard for a twin
1 1/4 yard for a full
1 1/2 yard for a queen
2 yards for a king size.

What does that mean , tone on tone with more contrast? 2 shades of white for more contrast with darks?
Tone on tone is a fabric printed in the same color, like white printed on a white background. This will provide more contrast than the fabric I chose shown in the picture.

This looks like an opportunity for some serious stash busting. I have a couple of layer cakes that I do not have any plans for but will have to come up with something for Fabric A.
This is going to be fun. I wn’t be home for 1 1/2 weeks but know just what fabric I have to use!

YeeHaw! I’ve been waiting for fabric requirements so I can choose which part of my scraps to focus on. Clarifying question: do I understand correctly that we should NOT cut squares D & E yet if we don’t already have 2 1/2″ squares, as there will be a different method later? And I want to use novelty/I Spy fabrics (in medium/dark tones) as my scraps because I have a lot of those scraps; can you tell me if B and C end up getting sub-cut later? If they do, then I don’t think I can use the novelty scraps and it will completely change my fabric pull.
Yes, that is right, there will be more on the 2-1/2-inch squares later, so don’t cut up your jelly roll strips or charm squares into squares yet. B and C do not get cut any further.

Thanks so much for including a table topper size. I really am trying to only make that size this year and use up as much stash as possible. Time to go dig thru the scrap boxes and see what I come up with.
BTW this looks like fun and I love that there is a table top size, I am going to make a wall hanging-a quilt I can actually keep.
Very pretty fabrics!!! Thanks so much for stopping by!! I also store most of our decorations in the attic and the large items like the outside things and the Trees which I leave most of the lights on and bag, in a storage shed that we rent.

Wonderful Carole! I’m looking forward to the mystery! I enjoyed it so much last year! I’m thinking this year to go with a scrappy ‘monochromatic’ scheme. I have a TON of teals and would love to make a dent in that part of my stash! You think the design would work in a variety of one color (plus the all-the-same-light and scrappy lights)
I was playing around with lots of 2 1/2″ squares the other day …now I know where they are going.

I may live to regret it, but I am going to cut one or two pieces from every dark/medium fabric I own until I have enough cut to make a twin size. My main light is straight white, and my other lights will be multiples of four. Hoping this works.
This sounds great, never participated in a mystery QAL. Have quite some stash of batiks that I could use for this. Found you through Karen’s Korner. Looking forward
