The part of Autumn Jubilee you’ve been waiting for is here! The Quilt Along starts today! Get those sewing machines ready, as we also have two more sewing projects to come as well. This year for the quilt along, I have a fun idea that really works nicely as a table runner. It is quick, and fast, so we will finish in just two weeks from today. You’ll have a Harvest Star runner in time for Thanksgiving dinner, or make it in Christmas colors for holiday gifts. I will show you the first block today, the second block next Friday, then we will put it together on the 25th.
So, since it is not a mystery, here is where we are going – a lovely star on a field of black. The black background reminds me of the hard butterscotch candies we used to get at the dime store. In Christmas colors, it might even look like a Christmas Cracker. I like the enlongated star using the Tri Recs tools, but you may substitute any star block you like, with a black background, 12-1/2-inches unfinished.
Begin by cutting your star fabric in a strip 4-1/2-inches wide. Place the ‘Recs’ tool on the edge and make the first cut.
Turn the tool around for the second cut. You’ll need eight Recs triangles.
From a 4-1/2-inch wide strip of black background, cut 4 ‘Tri’ triangles.
Line up the larger base star fabric with the point of the background.
Press outward, then sew the other side.
You should have four of these units, square to 4-1/2-inches if needed.
Arrange the star points around a solid center, or a print center. Add four 4-1/2-inch black background squares to the corners.
Sew in rows. The block should be 12-1/2-inches at this point.
For the Harvest Star, I put a print in the middle. I’ll use this same print in the Block B that I’ll show you next week.
It does beautifully in Christmas colors too.
For a small table runner, about 38-inches long, make one. And to give you some more ideas, here are some additional colorways you might do. Gotta love EQ8! Go scrappy or controlled, use the colors you like best. We’ll add borders later, too.

This is a lovely runner…I’m headed to my studio right now to pick my fabrics. I love this star set on point so I may make it smaller so that I can do that and stay within the size guidelines. Yes, it does look like a Christmas cracker to me…in addition to autumn batiks I think I’ll just go ahead and cut 2 for a Christmas runner as well. Thanks so much….and what a GREAT giveaway today. I am currently working on a star quilt for a friend. I would like to work on a fall table runner but I look outside and there is 3 inches of snow and more is predicted to come. And it is only 11 October. Brrrrrr. I am staying in and sewing.

I’ve been looking forward to your Autumn Jubilee quilting/sewing projects! My mind is swimming with possible fabric choices! I’ll have to wait to begin. I just got a call to babysit a sick 2 yr old neighbor. I see cuddles for my immediate future.
I just finished a major sweater project. It was a commissioned sweater coat with colorwork, so there were lots of ends to weave in. I am ready for some fabric sewing! First on the list is to sew down the Velcro on the puppy’s coat, then I need to get back to work on my son’s red and black quilt. I designed it in EQ7–love that program!
I’ve been testing some machine embroidery and need to start on my Bee’s quilt of valor blocks. Love the black and gold combination of your runner. Hmmm, I need one!

I have the Tri-Recs rulers. I’ve never used them. I also have the Jodi Barrows Square in a Square ruler which can be used for these pointy stars and make them using “strip units”. FUN!!

Yesterday, I finished a Comfort Quilt for the local Ronald McDonald House with an appliqued monster and another with a Star Wars focus print. I hope to quilt and bind two other Comfort Quilts for the local hospice with red-white-blue themes over the weekend. Then, it’s on to embroidering new fall pillow covers. I am looking forward to seeing the completed runners in both the fall and the Christmas color ways!

I’m not quite ready to sit at my sewing machine right now, I’m still getting over the knee replacement surgeries. I’ve been making a bunch of pumpkins from old flannel shirts (by hand) while I sit with my feet propped up and/or ice on my knee! I want to try the wool project, too. I wish I had more time to sew right now! On my sewing room floor (my design wall), I have several half square log cabin blocks made from scraps. They are lined up to make a lovely table runner, but I’m not sure when I’ll get back to it!

The autumn colors of the Aurifil thread collection are beautiful! I’ve been working on a gold, beige and black throw for our couch. Those colored threads would really spice it up.

Luckily enough my guild offered a workshop with Edyta Sitar that I attended so I’m currently sewing “Spools”of thread and have given thought to making one at least an Auriful one with orange for its spool, I May use a red or grey colored spool too as I love Aurifil threads.

I am working on finishing a bunch of fall and winter table runners for craft shows.
I am not working on Autumn Jubilee as I have way too many other projects going. My biggest project is a throw quilt with lots of appliqué.mi have just another few pieces to sew in the border then I will hand big stitch it.
I currently have two queen tops ready to be quilted (one loaded and ready to go) as well as a wall-hanging (a Christmas gift). If I can get caught up this week, I’ll be joining in soon!

I’m working on my Step 2 blocks for the Seeing Stars Sew Along with Diane Knott and also catching up on the Tiny Tuesday blocks with Angela at So Scrappy. I want to dig out the pumpkin blocks I made for Autumn Jubilee two(?) years ago and actually sew them together for a small wall hanging. The weather was so nice here, sunny all week, that I spent most of the week outside to season end chores.
I have the Tri Rec rulers–good time to try them out–Thanks for all your ideas. (I am just sewing the blocks together for Scrap Dance Minuet).
Because I’m not able to work at my sewing machine right now, as I tend to a dog who is recuperating from surgery, I am making orange peel appliqué blocks. It’s my first time doing needle-turn appliqué and I’m surprised at how much I’m enjoying this!

This runner is so sweet! The other day I was thinking of those same candies. When I was shopping I saw some and they had to find their way in to my shopping cart. You know I was disappointed. They just don’t taste as good as I remember. Neither do the ribbon candy we got in our stocking as a child. Is my memory playing tricks on me?
I almost forgot. I am not quilting along since my left arm is still immobilized after having shoulder surgery, but I am reading along and enjoying this month long bundle of crafting goodness. Thank you for helping me not die of boredom! 🥴 Carol

I am going to make this runner into a miniature square table topper….I think! I made some paper templates for the the points, so we’ll see how it goes. I bought a charm pack of Harvest Berry from Benartex at the quilt shop last week just for this! 🙂
