Fall Fortnight Placemats and Tablescape

Now that Halloween is past, we turn our attention to Thanksgiving. For the final project post of Fall Fortnight, I’ll show some fun ideas for placemats and tablescapes to make our holiday celebrations special. Today’s post will have the final drawing entries for a Fat Quarter Shop $50 gift certificate!

From 2023, these Turkey Talk placemats and centerpiece are the ideal base for a Thanksgiving table. The placemats are a square in a square center set on point, with coordinating print on the sides. See the tutorial on how to make them on Turkey Talk Placemats.

Using them as the base, the plate stack has copper color chargers, white stoneware dinner plates and turkey salad plates. Crystal glasses, everyday flatware and individual salt and pepper shakers complete the settings. Dark brown napkins are held with special Thanksgiving napkin rings. The centerpiece is my largest ceramic turkey, surrounded by smaller ones, and my tiny chipmunks on one corner.

These turkey plates have a fun story. I saw them in a catalog and fell in love with them, but they were way too pricey to get 8 of them. But, I couldn’t stop thinking about them. So, on Thanksgiving morning, while I was watching the parades, I went back to the website to see if they might be on sale. And they were! At 60% off! I ordered two sets of 4, and have been enjoying them every November since. I get them out on the first of the month, and use them for breakfast, lunch and dinners all month.

Search the thrift shops and online sites to find fun things to add to your holiday table. I found these place card holders a few years ago, and use them every year now. Not only can they be for seating at the table, I’ve also used them to hold a card with the name of a dish on a buffet.

I inherited these napkin rings from my mother, and use them every year too.

Sometimes I put the napkins in the center of the plate to really show the special napkin rings off. This table used the good china, and gold chargers with a small centerpiece with two turkeys and fall leaves.

You can make placemats out of just one fabric, like this tablescape. The placemats are a simple plaid, sewn in a size of 12×18 inches. Copper chargers hold rust color dinner plates with ruffled edges topped with my turkey plates. Gold napkins, crystal wine glasses and gold tone flatware complete the settings. Ceramic turkeys, pumpkins and tall candles surrounded by fall leaves make the centerpiece festive.

I love a full table for Thanksgiving, and this one features not only some of my ceramic turkey collection, but also my pilgrim figures.

These placemats from the 2019 edition of Autumn Jubilee are one of my favorites with the flying geese. Find the tutorial for this one at Autumn Jubilee Placemats.

What if you have very little time, but you still want to make some special placemats for Thanksgiving dinner, or everyday use during the season? We return to the fabulous Benartex Give Thanks line to let the fabric do the work for us! Select the Give Thanks print with the grateful words, and cut a piece 12-1/2-inches square. Then, select the coordinating plaid and cut two pieces 12-1/2-inches x 3-1/2-inches.

Sew along the 12-1/2-inch sides, and your placemat top is done. So easy, you can make a dozen in an afternoon. Layer with batting and then place the backing right sides together with the top, and sew around the edge leaving an opening for turning. Clip the corners, turn and press. Top stitch around the edge to close the opening and sharpen the edge. If you like, run a line of stitching in the ditch between the fabrics to give it a bit of quilting. Done in a day!!

What a gorgeous table you have set for Thanksgiving, Carole! It was certainly your lucky day when you found the turkey plates on sale at 60% off! I’d snatch those up too and use them all month to be in the festive mood of gratefulness.
I didn’t realize that FQS had a Home&Gifts tab! One item I’d love and need to purchase is 2026 Calendar by J. Wecker Frisch. I love a colorful sewing/quilting calendar in my sewing room. duchick at gmail dot com

November! That was fast. Lovely tablescapes. I have cute little pilgrim salt & pepper shakers & thanks to previous Jubilees & Fortnight, nice autumnal table toppers & placemats. The sunrise is highlighting the trees that haven’t lost their leaves yet. A final nod to my most favorite colorful time of the year.

I always love your tablescapes. Looking forward to seeing your Christmas ones!

it’s hard to narrow down anything in the Fat Quarter shop gifts, so many cute things. I’d probably give any of the quilt calendars to friends, but for myself I’d love to have the Quilt Bookends for my desk.

I love that turkey table set, I bought the fabric back in 2023 when you first showed them, and am working on stars with the turkeys in the center to use on the table.
If I was so lucky as to win the gift certificate I would get the vintage sewing machine building block kit, sort of like Lego’s. My Granddaughter loves Lego’s and it would be fun to work on together.
I have my Grandmother’s vintage sewing machine salt and pepper shakers.

  5. Oh Carole, this is such a charming table! I love those plates and what a fantastic find. It was definitely your lucky day! They look like they were made to go with the fabric of your table quilt and placemats! It’s lovely.

I love your tablescapes – so inspiring!

I would choose any of the Lori Holt puzzles. I already have one that I put together and framed, and it is on the wall of my sewing room.

  7. I like the set of three gingerbread house tea towel set. Never knew Fat Quarter Shop had all this. I’ll be perusing their website more this afternoon.

Thanks to Fat Quarter Shop and to you, Carole, for another fun and inspiring Fall Fortnight. Love your tablescape!

I love colorful socks, so I’d pick the Pretty in Pedals sock set. I may just have to gift them to myself.

I love your Thanksgiving table settings. You have the biggest turkey collection that I’ve ever seen! Have a very happy Thanksgiving, one of my favorite holidays. I’m a big fan of making placemats for Meals On Wheels, and just wish I had some of your wonderful fall fabrics for my sewing session with guild members tomorrow.

    Best wishes.

I wish we had a Fat Quarter Shop in Canada. So many lovely things to buy! The child in me would love the Red LED Snow Globe Truck with Santa and the adult sewist has her eye on the Two Tiered Oval Pink Tray.

    carole …

    beautiful tables!!

at Fat Quarter shop I am tempted by the little house shaped box with 3 kitchen towels that say HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS!

I decorate with kitchen towels since my kitchen is in the center of our home & can be seen from all over. It needs to stay clean & cute at all times 😬🤣

Your tablescape is so lovely. I’m so fascinated with all the little special touches. Thanks for the tip on Fat Quarter Shop Home and Gift Section. I think the Jolly and Bright Sock set will find its way into someone’s Santa sack this year.

  13. I think I would enjoy the Quiltable Card Game. My bee often plays a game at our Christmas luncheon and this looks like fun.

I love all your various table settings. Over the years of Autumn Jubilee and Fall Fortnight, I have an extensive array of table runners and fall placemats. My husband saved his mother’s Thanksgiving candles, shaped like turkeys and pilgrims. I will be setting them out when the family gathers for Thanksgiving. I just purchased a napkin ring embroidery design and am going to try it out this coming week, using vinyl and felt. 🙂 New holiday cloth napkins were ordered.

I have never looked at the Home & Gift section on the FQS website -and Oh My Goodness! I want so many things. Kimberly’s Master Color set is destined to be a gift for a friend. Thank you for the lovely tablescape ideas – I am looking around for items to add to my table.

You always present such a beautiful table! I would be afraid of spilling gravy on it! LOL I would love to receive as a gift a Sewing Is My Superpower Tumbler and maybe I would remember it and get more sewing done!

I love all your turkey decorations, especially those napkin rings from your mom! I remember those flying geese placemats from Autumn Jubilee, too. I should definitely make some to match my hexagon topper!

  17. Hi Carole! I always love looking at your tablescapes. I have one question…where do you store all of your dishes? I have 4 different sets and am at capacity! I order from FQS quite regularly…they are one of my favorite online shops. The Red Ceramic Tree Plate, Star Plate and Snowflake Mug really caught my eye! Of course, they would…red is my favorite color!

The Fat Quarter Shop’s 2026 Fancy That calendar tea towel caught my eye, as did the Lori Holt puzzles! So many appealing things in this newly discovered area of the FQS website.

Thank you for another fun Fall Fortnight! We are loving the fall pumpkins, trees and leaves quilt made from your pattern a few years ago.

I love the look of the She Who Sews calendar. But I also think the Liberty of London print bags are so pretty. Like you, I love holiday table settings. I also pull out my turkey plates now and use them all month. Thanks for the morning dose of pretty and for the placemat ideas.

    Carole,

Lots of nice choices from FQS but narrowed it down to 4 Red Truck Mugs, Hello Love Apron, and 4 Fall Blessings Stoneware coasters.

Thank you for the placemat ideas and for the Fortnight celebration. Your tablescapes are lovely also.

    Blessings,

I would love the Berry Mad for Plaid 2-bag set. I have the Bluebell one already and love it!!! My friend got me two patterns to work x-stitch on them and the berry one would be perfect for the patriotic pattern. I’d get both bags because … well, why not? Lol!

What a fun fall sewing event this was Carole! I had such fun putting together my hexagon table topper. I need to quilt it and bind it, but I’m in love with the colors and the process of creating it. I had no idea Fat Quarter shop has a Home and Gifts Tab. Well, I LOVE the little enamel charms and the Dresden enamel charm is my favorite to either buy for myself or as a gift for someone. So cute! Thanks Fat Quarter Shop for sponsoring this fun event!

The blush bead kit would be a perfect gift for my 9 year old great niece. And the personal fan would be appreciated by my sister. Thanks!

  28. That reminds me. I need to pull out my Autumn Jubilee Placemats! I can’t believe it’s November!.

Thans to you & your wonderful Sponsors for making Fall Fortnight such fun!

I checked out FQS’s Home & Gifts Section & like the 2026 Fancy That Calendar Tea Towel. I use to get Calrndat Towels every year. I even framed the top of one so I could keep it around.

What fun! I didn’t know Fat Quarter Shop sold so many fun items that aren’t fabric!

I would love to get 2 of the Rose Tea set enamel charms and make earrings out of them. Actually, there are MANY of their enamel charms I would love to make earrings from!

Your table scapes always inspire me. They are so thoughtfully put together. Since I live alone, I never set a formal table, however, I always put out my seasonal quilted table toppers and centerpiece of some kind. I am a huge fan of anything Lori Holt and I love jigsaw puzzles, so would definitely be glad to have her Honey Bee Garden Quilt puzzle. This fortnight has gone by too quickly but I appreciate your efforts to keep us entertained and share your numerous ideas.

Your tablescapes are lovely. I would choose the hometown bee keeper binder. Thanks for pointing out this section of FQS, I never noticed it before.

Wow. So many options. it is really hard to narrow it down, but, I think my best option is to start planning for 2026 with a new calendar. So, I wuld love to have the She Who Sews calendar. Thanks!!

So many wonderful gift ideas. I love the holiday dishtowel sets but also think my granddaughter would enjoy one of the Taylor Swift books she doesn’t already have.

I’ve always admired your seasonal dishes. Those turkey napkin holders are really lovely. I think I need to downsize my Thanksgiving dinner from 50+! The little alphabitties would surely come in handy.
