Autumn Jubilee Quilt Along Step 2

It may be Friday the 13th, but it is a lucky day for free patterns. The rest of the Quilt Along blocks will be on today’s sewing agenda. Did you make progress on the first blocks this past week?

Once again, lets take a look at the design in concept. Details will be just a bit different with the flying geese / leaf block configurations. The quilt shown will finish at 40-inches square with 12-inch blocks set 3×3 and 2-inch borders. If you want a larger quilt, just make more of the blocks, and arrange as you like.

Today, let’s start with the block of the pumpkin blocks. First, download the pdf for the pattern with all the dimensions – Autumn Jubilee Pumpkin Blocks.

This is a basic snowball block with a stem. Begin with strips of orange fabrics from the Benartex Harvest Festival line. Then, mark the small background squares with a diagonal line.

Sew them on the corners. Flip to the corners and trim. Tip – sew the seam slightly on the outside of the diagonal line to make sure it flips nicely.

On this one, press the orange strips to the center, which allow the background corners to press to the dark.

Add the stem section. Make 4.

Arrange them with background squares in these configurations.

Next, the block of three apples which are made substantially the same way. I wanted to do the stems at an angle, but it was too fussy for this fast quilt along. So, I did them straight. First, download the pdf for this block – Autumn Jubilee Apple Block.

Add the stems. These are skinnier than the pumpkin stems.

Make 3.

Add the spacing units of background fabric.

Sew together. Make one.

You’ll have a week to finish off the apple and pumpkin blocks. Next week, we’ll do the assembly and quilting.

  1. All of the fabric lines look beautiful at Benartex, but my favorite is A Festive Medley with the chickadee wreaths, Holly Scroll, and any of the plaids to coordinate. So cheerful and unique! I love the patterns in this quilt, the jars, apples and pumpkins. So homey, just right for AJ! And the turkeys in the prize package suggest more fun to come in it!

I love all of the fabrics so it makes choosing a favorite difficult. The Harvest Festival line is just perfect for this time of the year and I love fall colors!

Alpine Valley by Shelley Cavanaugh looks like a fun line winter line with some non-traditional winter colors I think would be fun to play with; Love the apple and pumpkin blocks. Thank you.

  4. I think everyone who has ever even contemplated purchasing a hand-pieced and quilted anything should read your posts to fully understand the work, the stitching, the time that goes into a piece of any size. This will be wonderful. I was in a quilt shop up north is past week — gorgeous fabrics, of course (aren’t they all!) and thought of you!

Well it is not even winter yet and I am thinking of spring !! A painted garden would be a fun spring line. Thanks

I was hoping we got to make pumpkins this week! (And apples, too – bonus!) I would love to win that pretty Benartex Harvest Festival layer cake, but am also thinking about a Christmas project I need to get started on. “A Cozy Winter” would be a fun line to work with!

So many to choose from but American Spirit would be what I would most like to play with…..(Accent on Pansies, my favorite flower, would be a close second.)

It’s finally starting to be cool in the evenings and mornings here in Los Angeles so I’m looking forward to winter! I’d like to play with A COZY WINTER By CHERRY GUIDRY. I love the teal blue colors!

Thank you Carole. I have some ongoing health issues and am behind on all my quilting plans. I hope I have printed out all the instructions now and hopefully will soon be able to get into my sewing room! Have a great fall! Hasn’t it been a beautiful one so far? I love this time of year. God bless!

I finished my jars, leaves, & flying geese but will remake the leaves. I thought I’d see how it looked if I used a collection of leftover hsts. It looks like the leftovers you forgot about in the back of the fridge! LOL I’m looking forward to making some pretty fresh leaves plus today’s pumpkins & apples. That was some mighty pretty eye candy over on the Benartex site! Despite my usual moratorium of looking out of season, the Winter in Iowa scenes were quite appealing. Can’t resist a little snow.

oh my goodness! I want this quilt 🙂 Since Christmas is next in line how would jIngle Bell Flannel sound? I’m a huge fan of Pat Sloan’s but I’m thinking I need to expand and move on with some other designers as well.

I’m liking the Cozy Cabin. Anytime I see Moose, Deer, Bear in the taupe/browns black fabric, I’m in.
Thank you Benartex for the giveaway and thanks to Carole!

Thank you for the great instructions to make the pumpkin and apple blocks. Like that marble fabric you used for the apples!

What Benartex line would I like to play with? All of them! The collections, Chalk Talk and At Home by Cherry Guidry really caught my eye! I will look for her fabric next time I go to the quilt shop!

I pulled fabric today for the embroidery/bread basket liner…a first step in the right direction!

Enjoying Autumn Jubilee! Grateful for you!

I’m beginning to look toward Christmas and I believe the “A Botanical Season” collection would be lovely to play with. Benartex has some gorgeous collections. Nice to have them as a sponsor.

  17. Lisa England

Wow, I saw so many gorgeous fabrics on the Benartex fabrics pages! I would love to play with many of the batiks, or with the fabrics from the lines “A Festive Medley” or “Alpine Valley”. And that’s just the start of my list!
