I have been working on secret projects lately that I cannot share yet. Of course, one is the Scrap Dance Square Dance Mystery, and another is my new pattern (currently in pattern testing) for my new Chocolate Covered Cherries quilt. I have some new readers, and maybe some long time readers, who have not seen the Patriotic quilting projects and free patterns I’ve had over the past couple of years. So, here is a roundup of quilting ideas, in time to get completed prior to Independence Day. With each project, I tried a new idea or technique. Starting off, the Patriotic Mini Quilt was double quilted in two motifs and two colors. It was a fun and easy project. Click on Patriotic Mini Quilt to see the steps and get the free pattern.
Each year since I made it, I have used the Patriotic table runner using Tri Recs rulers on my summer holiday tables. To make one, start HERE. You’ll learn about putting borders on pointed projects, and binding non-90-degree angles.
Of course, you can make a patriotic tablescape with it when you are done like this one. The runner is the star of the table, with white lace placemats, red chargers, and white plates topped with red salad plates. Simple centerpiece elements of candles and star sprays leave lots of room for great food.
I made a Patriotic Nine Patch Star quilt for a QOV, using the pattern I developed for the blog. It is shown in Christmas colors on this post. This free pattern pdf download has both colorways – Nine Patch Star. I set my quilt with sashing in the background ivory, and cornerstones of a star print.
Scrap Dance Tango in Patriotic Colors is an add-on pattern to the Scrap Dance Tango pattern available on Etsy.
One more thing, I have written a tutorial on using heat erase gel pens for Madam Sew. Click on Heat Erasable Gel Pens to see the article. Not an affiliate link, but they did compensate me for the article.

Wonderful quilting on your patriotic mini! Your post is a great reminder to get my patriotic project back out and work on it this month. I’ll be watching for you tute on the other site.
Good morning! Wonderful post – I made the tri recs table runner a few years ago and gifted it to a neighbor – your instructions were excellent! I love the mini and will definitely consider purchasing the value play pattern – I love star quilts 🙂
I have those tri-recs rulers and haven’t used them yet. I bought them for a “mystery quilt” another national quilter did 4 years ago, but the timing was wrong for me. I’ve decided that I LIKE making smaller projects because they finish faster, so maybe the table runner is just the right thing for me! 🙂 Thanks for your generosity with your patterns! I like to encourage everyone to give them a try. Because I have made several projects that you have written patterns for, I can say with certainty, that they are easy to follow~!!~
Beautiful…..I love patriotic quilts. I love supporting Quilts of Valor!

No patriotic projects….but LOVE LOVE all your quilty patriotic decorations.
All very lovely patriotic projects and the tablescape is magnificent. Thank you for sharing your tutorials/patterns.
Hello Carole; You are right, I have missed a couple of these quilts. Which just confuses me, I thought I had done a pretty good job of going through your posts in the past couple of years. I am not a big patriotic quilt maker, this year though, they are catching my attention and I am going to have to make one or two. I really like your Nine Patch Star Quilt, so that one is going to be at the top of my list. Well, I am off to start my day of sewing…still working on the California King quilt. Have a fabulous day Carole and continue to create all of your magnificent patterns! You are superb at it!!
Ohh, love the bed spread.
Nice collection
I enjoy seeing your centerpieces and it made me remember how i purchased some of the sparkle star spray leaves for like 10 cents in Hobby Lobby a few years back. I have these in the barn. I think i will give them out in the office along with the mini flag mug rug i’ve seen on Craftsy (I’ve cut some fabric out tonight) and plan to sew this weekend. I like your star mini on your table stand too I might just give that a whirl. I have a few Americana projects to work on over the next month and in no hurry since i keep my house decorated through Labor day with the red/white/blue theme. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
All wonderful patriotic designs!
What a fabulous collection of patriotic quilts and designs. Thanks for sharing them all in one place for us.
