Fall Fortnight Quilt Along Begins!

Welcome to the 2026 Fall Fortnight Event! Over the next two weeks, we’ll have many Autumn inspired quilting and embroidery projects for you to do along with a new recipe, cards, and a special charity project with specials or giveaways on every post!

Today we begin the Fall Fortnight Quilt Along. I have designed an oversized table topper or wall hanging for you that measures about 60-inches square. If you’d like to make the project into a throw size, just make three more Block A Lattice blocks, and two more Star Blocks. This isn’t a mystery, so here is the finished design.

We are going to jump right in with cutting all the fabrics needed for the project, and assemble the first set of blocks. Important note – The Fabric and Cutting pdf contains only what is needed to complete the 60-inch square table topper, you’ll need to cut extra to make the throw size.

To begin, download this pdf of fabric requirements and cutting instructions – Fall Fortnight Fabric and Cutting. Begin with the strip cutting. Then do all the cross cuts as outlined in the pdf.

Sew the green 2-1/2 inch strips to the same size background strips. Repeat for the gold strips. Press to the color side. Cross cut the strip sets into 2-1/2-inch sets of two squares.

Place a green set and a gold set together, nesting seams to make a four patch with colors in opposite corners.

Sew and press, spinning the center. Square to 4-1/2-inches.

Complete all the four patch units.

Sew the red 2-1/2 inch strips to the same size background strips.

Cross cut into 4-1/2-inch two patch sets.

Arrange the block 4-patches and 2-patches with the center square. Be sure your color placement is correct – green squares to the corners and red bars on the outside edges. Sew using the web method.

Press the top and bottom sections to the outside, and the center section to the middle to nest the seams.

Or, use the chain piecing method, where you sew all the same bits for all the blocks at once.

Make 9 lattice blocks.

If you want to make a throw size quilt instead of the oversize table topper, cut more fabric and make three more blocks.

Good morning, Carole, as always, you’ve done a great job on this project. I love the top you’ve designed for us. After looking at all the fall fabrics associated with the link you provided, I have to say that “I Love Fall Most of All” by Deb Strain for Moda is my favorite. Not only did the colors attract my attention, but the delicate berries and mushrooms as part of the design caught my eye, too.

Windfall by Fancy That Design House. I like the inclusion of the mauve/purples in the autumn palette. Great job, Carole, figuring out how to nest all those seams! That’s so frustrating when a pattern doesn’t give any pressing directions.

Windfall colors so pretty and blend well together. Of course, choosing favorite hard as there were two other bundles I would enjoy turning into a quilt. Sara Ray
