Decorating with Quilts for Autumn

I have so many autumn quilts in everything from bed size to table top and more. Over the past couple of years, I have sold a bunch of them on Sample Sales. But I still have plenty left to decorate our home in practically every room. There are so many ways to incorporate quilts in your decor and I hope today’s post may give you a few ideas. Obviously, a quilt can go on a bed, and I will sometimes put one flat so the whole quilt is visible. I made two fall print pillowcases a few years ago to complement the quilt. This pattern, Autumn Celebration, is available on My Patterns page.

Sometimes, I fold a quilt at the foot of the bed as more of an accent. I have an off-white quilted bedspread that stays on the guest bed all the time. This allows me to change out colors with the seasons without having to store queen size quilts.

Another way to decorate a bed is to use a long table runner as a bed scarf. For those in warmer climates, this adds a touch of fall without adding another layer to the bed. Runners are easier to store as well.

This year, the Autumn Celebration Row Quilt is hanging from a curtain rod near the ceiling next to my longarm in the basement. This quilt is full size and almost reaches the floor. Having this curtain rod with rings and clips allows me to change it seasonally.

Quilts can be folded and draped on chairs. These were in the middle of a room, so it was easy to use them as displays. With our new flooring, they moved to the office, so now I have to find another way to show off the colors.

I tucked a table topper on the back side of the sofa, as it is in the middle of the den and faces the windows.

I fold quilts and lay them over the ottomans in the den. They add color and are easy to pull up over chilly legs on blustery days.

If your table topper is too big for the table, turn it a bit so the points hang off the edges.

Tiny quilts (aka pot holders) make cute decor for the kitchen set on a book stand. The added benefit is they are easily reached when needed.

My Pumpkin Star pattern is my most popular pattern available for sale on My Patterns page. Little did I know when I designed it that it would be my best seller. Here, it is folded over one of the ottomans.

Little table toppers grace most of the end tables in the house. Adding a leaf dish full of wool acorns is a crafty touch. See the tutorial for the Wool Acorns on my post Another Fun Project. The table topper / wall hanging is simply an embroidered center surrounded by squares of scrappy fall fabrics. Cut the center 6-1/2-inches square, and surround with 2-1/2-inch squares in two rows.

I made a table runner for my pie safe in my kitchen. I change these out seasonally too. This was a free pattern – Maple Leaf Table Runner.

I recently scored a quilt stand at the re-home table at guild. I put my Pumpkin Star quilt on the lower section this year, then added a table runner over the top bar.

It is in the dining room, where another table topper graces the formal dining table. Sometimes I put a throw size quilt on the table just for a different look.

In the den, I have two clips on the wall so I can change out the wall hanging as often as I please. This is the Autumn Jubilee quilt along from October 2021. There were five posts with downloads, and you can get them by using the Archives pull down by month in the blog footer.

On my little Mini Quilt Stand, I have a leaf and pumpkin quilt from a previous Autumn Jubilee. A leaf and acorns adorn the top of the stand. Faux leaves, ceramic pumpkins, and glass candlesticks with rust color candles and fall leaf candle rings complete the vignette.

So, how do you decorate for Autumn? Do you use quilts as decor?
