A hot bowl of soup is a perfect meal on a cold winter day. Normally, when I have a ham bone to use, I make my White Bean Soup. But My Sweet Babboo didn’t want beans this time. I had a bag of potatoes in the pantry, and potato soup sounded good.

Start with a ham bone that has meat still on it. Add any leftover scraps to the pot too.

Here’s the recipe.
1 medium yellow or white onion
1 ham bone with meat, extra scraps of ham
2 cups water 1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon lemon pepper
1 teaspoon oregano
1 bay leaf 4 large potatoes
1 cup milk
1/2 cup frozen green peas
Chopped green onion for garnish
Shredded Colby jack cheese for garnish (or cheddar, or pepper jack)
Peel and roughly chop potatoes.

Spray a 4-quart slow cooker crock with cooking spray. Chop the onion and add to the bottom of the crock. Add the ham bone. Add 2 cups of water. Add all the spices and herbs. Add potatoes. Cover and cook on low heat for 6-8 hours.

Uncover, and remove ham bone with a pair of tongs, set on a plate to cool until able to handle.

Shred the ham meat from the bone. Discard bone.

Spoon out 2 cups of potatoes with broth and place in a blender. Add one cup of milk. Blend until smooth. It’s ok if a few bits of ham get into the blender.

Pour blended potatoes back into crock. Add shredded ham to crock. Stir. Cook peas in microwave for 30 seconds on medium high to defrost. Add to crock. Stir.

Serve in bowls with a garnish of shredded cheese and chopped green onion.
We had ours last week before the Christmas dishes were packed away. He said it was so good, he may never want bean soup again with this as an option.

Enjoy!! Do you have a favorite soup for a cold winter day?
Soup “smells” so good. I may have to add this to my soup rotation. Interesting I’ve not seen a potato soup recipe with peas in it.
I think we’ll have another day or two of slightly warm weather, but next week calls for a dip in the temperatures. Definitely soup weather.
Sounds really good, I’m not so crazy about beans so I’ll have to try this!
This looks delicious and hearty. I love soup season, and I would probably do this on the stove since I don’t have a crock pot, just adjusting the cooking time. Potato soup — you can’t beat it. Now I’ll have to fight Rick for the ham bone!
Delicious — tasting it in my mind ;-). I don’t generally have a ham bone, but can find smoked pork hocks at the grocery & use them for pea soup. Now another recipe to try.
Yum! Now if I could just get my hubby to like ham! LOL. I appreciate your emails. Charlie
Your soup looks lovely.
This soup sounds yummy. My daughter is not a bean soup person but I’m sure she would like this. Putting the recipe in my collection.
Oh my this sounds delicious. I love a good crock pot recipe. That means “dinner is easy” and I can sew longer!! Thanks for the recipe.
that looks amazing. i like the addition of peas too. gives it a bit of “color. i may try combining your recipe with the one i use and see what happens.
I am definitely saving this recipe 😋 Mary Anne
