It wouldn’t be fall without something Pumpkin Spice, right? So, grab your latte, and fire up your embroidery machine for a Pumpkin Spice wall hanging.

If you’d like this particular saying for your embroidery machine, it is available on Designs by Juju (not affiliated) in a set called Harvest Sayings Set 1. Stitch it out, and trim to 6-1/2-inches square. Match your thread colors to your fabric choices. You could also use a hand embroidered motif. Once again, if you do not have an embroidery machine, fussy cut a motif for the center section.

Next, we’ll make some flying geese using the no-waste method. You’ll need one large print square 7-3/4-inches square and four 4-3/8-inch light background squares. Mark the back of the small background squares with two lines, 1/4-inch away from a diagonal center line.

Place the squares on the diagonal on the print square, making sure the lines connect.

Sew on the lines.

Cut apart down the center between the sewn lines, and press the resulting triangles creating two heart shaped units. Place a background square on the remaining corner. Using the two line method, you can see that the lines intersect the previously sewn unit right at the corner created. This ensures that the stitching will be accurate. Sew on the lines on both units.

Cut apart and press. You now have four flying geese. Trim each one to 3-1/2-inches by 6-1/2-inches. I find using a Deb Tucker Wing Clipper tool to be the easiest way to get an accurate cut. Place the tool on the goose making sure the point is on the X and the size is correct. Trim the top and right side of the unit.

Flip it around, putting the goose point at the correct intersection, and making sure the total size is correct. Trim the top and right sides.

With your perfect flying geese, the center section embroidery, and four print 3-1/2-inch squares, assemble the center section.

As you are sewing, make sure that your seam goes through the exact point of the X of the previous seams to get perfect points.

Sew in rows. Press the seams opposite so the rows will nest. To reduce bulk on these seams, I press the top and bottom row to the outside, and the center row towards the center.

Center section complete, next add a border of background.

Lay out your scrappy squares for the outer border, play with the arrangement until you are pleased with the placement.

Sew the side sets of seven, and the top / bottom sets of nine.

Sew the side borders to the center section, then add the top and bottom borders.

Quilt as desired. I used a pumpkin pantograph on mine in white thread. Small projects like this are easy to quilt on your domestic machine. Simple lines, stitch in the ditch, or echo quilting all would work well. I applied the binding by machine in a plaid that matches some of the border patches.

Today’s giveaway is provided by Benartex Fabrics! They have provided a fat quarter stack and a 2-1/2-inch strips pack which will be awarded to two winners! Plus, I’ll also give away some additional fat quarters from the fabrics sent for Fall Fortnight that I didn’t use, mostly sunflower prints. The Give Thanks line was designed by Nicole DeCamp, and is available in some local quilt shops and on Amazon. I love the coloring of this line, with its soft orange and pretty turquoise green, with accents of darker green, brown, gold and cream. The Give Thanks Fat Quarter Stack has 17 fat quarters, and the 2-1/2-Inch Strip Pack contains 40 width-of-fabric strips. There is also a Layer Cake available.

Love this project. Super cute.
For Bernatex the Among the Wildflowers 2 caught my eye.
A cute saying makes a cute mini quilt!!!
I really like the Glassine prints.
Thank you for the beautiful projects you’ve given us. I can see them made for every season/holiday of the year!
For myself I’d like the Dragonfly Wonder, but for my husband and the 250th Anniversary of the Navy I’d hope my local quilt shop would carry United States Navy.
This is another cute one, Carole. You really are so clever!
Sew adorable. My hoop is too small for the design, but I can do a something similar. All that’s needed is a little inspiration & this is the place to find it!
Such a cute project. I’d love to find Among the Wildflowers at a local shop!
Winter in the Pines is my favorite followed by A Walk in the Forest! Love pinecones and trees and all woodland animals. Colors are fantastic too. Thanks for this pattern and instructions for this hanger.
This is such a nice project that looks fun to construct. It’s been fun to see all of the projects you have created, Carole.
The collection by Shelly Cavanna, Holly and Hearth, would be perfect for the Christmas season.
Carole,
First-thank you so much for the Fall Fortnight and all the great ideas. This is so nice of you to do for us.
I love the Benartex- Christmas at Home by April Cornell. I can envision wonderful projects with this collection.
Blessings,
Beverly
Your detailed directions and photos have convinced me to try that method of making the dreaded Flying Geese block. The fabrics used in the project shout “FALL”! My choice from the new fabric line is Scenic Allover with the deer and wildlife. My youngest brother retires next March and it’s my routine to celebrate with a quilt. He might also have liked the eagle panel.
Thanks so much for sharing these great fall projects.

Very nice project, pretty colors.
Love this project. I have four sisters I enjoy making “just because” gifts for and these darling small projects are perfect for that. Thanks for all the great projects in the Fall Fortnight presentations.
I would love to make something with the “Harvest Beauty” collection of fabrics.
Your Pumpkin Spice project is lovely and perfect for the season.
Thank you for another quick Fall Fortnight project, and the flying geese tutorial.
It would be fun to find the Benartex “Among the Wildflowers II” fabrics available for purchase at my local quilt shop!
I’m not sure how we are supposed to choose just one collection. There are some lovely sets in there. Maybe I would go with the Autumn cats. Gorgeous!
I love scattering little minis around the house for the holidays. This is a sweet version for fall. The fabrics in A Walk in the Forest would be my choice.
I had a hard time choosing just one fabric in the new collections. I think my favorite has to be The Autumn Breeze fabric collection by designer Nancy Halvorsen. The Dancing Leaves is just so pretty and delicate, and the coordinating fabrics are great.
I love this fun little project, and it just proves again how nicely you are combining your quilting projects with machine embroidery. Great project. By the way, that collection from Benartex with the teal you used is amazing. 🙂
I like Rachel Rossi’s Wishflower. I like the line that you’ve used for this project. The addition of turquoise to the normal fall colors is unique. Thanks for your projects.
Thank you, Carole, for projects that I think I can start and finish in a reasonable amount of time!
For Benartex, the Harvest Beauty collection caught my eye today.
I would like to see the blenders line at my local quilt shop. I’m always looking for pretty blenders to use in my quilts!
Love todays project! I am looking through my material for a good fussy cut to use in the center.
I am loving A Walk in the Forrest – LOVE those owls and the colors in this line. I would love to make my one sister a lap quilt out of this line! Happy Halloween!
Carole, another beautiful project. I don’t have an embroidery machine, love seeing all the fun stuff you do with yours. I may have to look for the wing clipper ruler, looks like it is very useful I like the Affinity collection, especially the teal and light plum fabrics. Thanks for sharing Niki barber
I just love this little project, Carole! I don’t have an embroidery machine, but maybe I can come up with a quick hand embroidery project to use for the center. At Benartex I loved the Walk in the Forest collection.
Love so many of your small projects. I would pick the Ohio State collection to make a lap quilt for my hubby, he is a big Buckeye football fan.
I’d love to sew something with some fabrics from the Heartland Holiday.
Gosh what a cute fall project! I like Among the Wildflowers II. It would make a cute tote or overnight bag or a quilt!
Carole, I love your project! It is perfect for Fall.
Benartex choices: Natura or Blenders
Oh wow! I fell in love with the Christmas at Home collection…so beautiful and rich looking with the pines, flowers, poinsettias and holly berries. I have almost 2 months to make myself a Christmas quilt…I’ve made one for family members for decades and now it’s my turn…lol….(that sounded greedy)…I’ve long loved Benartex fabrics. I have to travel to a neighboring state for my nearest local quilt shop…she’s going out of business so I’m not sure if the owner will carry these new lines. Sigh! Thanks for a chance to win!
I love all the collections but the one that I am most partial to is the angel collection. I have always loved anything with angels but more so when my son passed away in 1994 at 5 years old. When I see this collection it brings a smile and a certain calm to me knowing that we have a special angel.
A Winter’s Day
Regards, Sherry
Really nice project and loved the reminder tutorial for the flying geese! My favorite collection is Black, White and Blooms.
Twilight Serenade in that lovely green wide backing is what I’d choose. It would work so well with the NICU quilts I make each year. Thanks!
Another cute project, thank you for sharing. I would like to see the Bali Samba line, pretty colors.
I would like the Metallic Impressions collection.
I would like the Batik collection. The rich colors just draw me in.
Thank you for today’s tutorial too.
I love the Affinity Collection. Such beautiful colors.
Carla from Arizona
I LOVE the Cupid’s Arrow collection! I love everything Valentines Day (helps that I have a husband who’s a romantic). I love the rich colors of the collection. I also like the pumpkin background fabric that you used in your wallhanging. The combination of teal with the orange and white pumpkins is lovely!
I really like a walk in the forest. But my absolute favorite is the American University fabric. That’s where ny California girl went to college and she’s been an east coaster ever since.
a Walk in the Forest is my favorite. So cool!
I have Juju autumn sayings. You’ve done a super job incorporating this into your project.
So many enticing fabric designs at Benertex. Especially like the sunflower and spice collection! Sunflowers make me smile and this collection is extraordinary!
The collection called Harvest Beauty has some gorgeous fabric in such bright, vibrant colors. There’s also a beautiful panel that goes with it. I could definitely see some beautiful autumn projects from this line.
Thanks for all the doable fall projects! You are keeping us grateful and energized for the upcoming holidays!
I do enjoy making small projects like this sweet pumpkin spice wall-hanging. There’s so much satisfaction in being able to complete and use something quickly, right! I found a beautiful new Benartex collection that sings to me: ‘Wishflower’ by Rachel Rossi is the one that I will beg my local quilt shop to stock. Happy November!
So many delicious collections to choose from! I think the one that I’d opt for is Christmas at Home. Love the chickadees and the beautiful border stripe prints are gorgeous!
I love the colors and designs in the Affinity collection!
I enjoy all your projects and recipes! I think A Walk In The Forest is adorable and would love to make something with it!
Sweet Meadow Lawn would be my choice for my local quilt shop to carry.
It was hard to choose, there are so many beautiful prints!
A Wooly Autumn would be my choice.
