This week, I had a speaking engagement, providing the program for the Carrabus Quilt Guild in Harrisburg, NC. Such a great group of ladies! I got there too early, and was set up and ready a good half hour before I needed to be, so I got to talk to a few quilters and see their committee tables. I took a lot of quilts to show, and projects to share.

Starting off, we turned the lights off in the front so the slides could be seen easier. I presented my Scrap Dancing program.

Then, the lights were turned up so I could do the trunk show. I showed several of my Scrap Dance quilts, like this one, Square Dance. I explained why it was called that name, as it mostly uses squares.

My best quilt ever, Quadrille is custom quilted and has won several ribbons.

Waltz got everyone’s attention with the description of how it was made. The wool batting means it doesn’t crease or shrink, and it has been folded up for months, stuffed into suitcases, and washed, yet it doesn’t show any creasing in the batting.

This is my To The Nines pattern, made for display at Quilt of Valor events. The patterns for all these quilts are for sale on the Buy My Patterns page.

After the presentation, I had a chance to talk to several of the quilters as they got to come up to feel the quilt with the wool batting, play with the little projects, and ask questions. Then, we packed up, went to our hotel and found quilt patterns on the walls in the hotel room!

It is me, or do we see quilts everywhere?

The next morning, featherweights were humming as we got busy on the class to make a table topper size of To The Nines.

I loved this fabric collection that Debra was using.

Part way through the day, they agreed to pose with some of their completed blocks. From left is Chris, Linda and Debra. That’s my quilt in the blue and yellow, our class sample.

Debra sent me a text later. After class, they were able to stay and sew, and keep working on the speed piecing techniques they learned. Debra got all but one block done!

Linda had three blocks done, but had more almost completed.

Chris was the speedy one, completing all her blocks, and she was able to start on the quick Web Method of assembling her blocks together.

The drive back was easier, as the threatened rain didn’t get to us. Wednesday was a car club event that took most of the day and was so much fun! Then guild and errands yesterday kept me busy and out of the house. Today will be doing chores, and catching up on laundry. Tomorrow is the Quilt of Valor event, and I will be busy several hours with picking up the food, setting up, doing the presentation and reception, then clean up. Maybe next week I can get back to the Koi Pond art piece. I have almost finished the binding and will get to the embellishing soon.
How has your week been?
Wow, you have had a busy week! I’ve made all the Scrap Dance quilts and the Two the Nines also and really enjoy your patterns. Glad you able to share your work with another guild.
Carole, you are busy! I am not a quilter nor do I sew, but I would have loved to hear your program and witness your expertise!
Super pictures of your guild presentation and workshop! I too love wool batting for its resiliency and super stitch definition. And yes, I see quilt patterns everywhere!
You do have a busy time with your interests and keeping the home fires burning! Juggling everything can be difficult but fun. I’m sure the Guild ladies had a wonderful day with you and they got to try out a new pattern. I always like to see what other people are stitching up and enjoy wandering around the different tables.
Enjoy your weekend,
Mary :))
I think To The Nines & Quadrille are my two favorites. I’ve made 2 of each. I quilted a little baby quilt with a fleece backing at this week’s sew day. It’s the frst time I’ve ever tried that. Today I finished a club pillow project & assembled a little 9-patch style topper using 5 little sashiko squares from an earlier club class. You can tell the days are longer.
Looklike a very fun event! Quadrille is my favorite – probably because I made a tabletopper version of it out of some favorite prints. I have had a busy week – my book club met, a couple of golf outings, and lots of running around. It would be nice for life to slow down a bit!
I laughed out loud when I saw the first hotel room picture. I have the exact same picture on my phone, taken in Beaumont, TX. I took it for the same reason you did. I thought it would be a great quilt block. We can find inspiration everywhere, if we would only take the time to look.
Looks like you had a great group to work with! That always makes it so much fun as a presenter!
Looks like you had a great time with the group.
It is always great to share!
Your Koi pond is beautiful, and the border looks like the fish are indeed in a pond with a pebble beach round them.
Wow. If I quilted I would buy ALL of those patterns. And I love your color combinations. That’s interesting about the wool batting, too. Who knew? Just you! Life is super busy for you but being with such a good group sounds really gratifying. Well done! As for me, just working on my England art journal, cleaning up the yard (again). And a little fun time with friends.
And I couldn’t get back to my comment to mention how much I like reading the books you have suggested that you like. You’ve introduced me to several authors and I appreciate that.
