Since we didn’t do the house party because of the snow, I had two pints of blueberries to use up. I decided to do some blueberry muffin tops, with a basic muffin recipe from my Good Housekeeping cookbook. I use a Muffin Top Pan, one that doesn’t have a deep well. This gives you beautiful tops (the best part of a muffin!) without deep dry bottoms. I forgot to take photos, but these show what I did, same as another time.

The pan gives you beautiful muffin tops, with nicely browned bottoms. Yum, breakfast!

I made my Butternut Squash Lasagne this past weekend. Just click on the link for the recipe perfect for two. This time I left out the mushrooms, but it was still delicious! My Sweet Babboo had three helpings.

At our Hen Party, I worked on putting labels on these two Quilts of Valor.

They are added to the things I am putting together for the presentation to six of our car club veterans on February 22. I have one more to collect, and then the carriers will be complete. Each veteran receives a red carrier with his quilt, a certificate from the QOV Foundation, along with a presidential proclamation for Vietnam veterans with a commemorative pin, and some additional papers. In the corner, I have the quilt I will display for photos, programs that have been printed, and a couple of stands with information for visitors to read. I just need to get the final count and order the catering for the event. Then, I’ll only have the event that day to officiate the ceremony, and supervise a crew to set up and clean up.

Quilts continue to come in, and we were able to make a delivery on Friday to hard hit Gerton, NC. More on that next week.

I pulled quilts from my own closet to take, too. I have way too many! These will be put to much better use on a bed to help keep a hurricane victim warm rather than folded in my closet.

Gracie came by and got a sandwich during the really cold days early last week. She took it to the debris pile next to the driveway. We are still waiting for the tree contractor to get to us to remove it.

I think it was George on the retaining wall, looking hopeful at the same time. I threw one towards him, but he just sat there looking at me. I went inside as it was so cold, figuring he could find it with his nose.

We had our British Car Club holiday party yesterday. We usually have it early in January, but it got postponed due to the snow two weeks ago. I was looking forward to a dress up affair, with elegant surroundings at Chestnut Mountain country club and a lovely meal. I wore my new-to-me black jacket with the gold and green sequined motifs. It’s the one on the left in this photo.

When we arrived, we had cards with our last name, and a little graphic to tell the servers whether we had ordered chicken or fish. Cute aren’t they? Note that the fish and the chicken are both in cars. So fun.

As we got a drink and enjoyed the cocktail hour, there were servers circulating with the most delicious array of tidbits. There were meatballs on a stick, herbed cream cheese on crostini with truffle oil, tomato-basil bruschetta, and Cajun shrimp tarts. These were all awesome!

At the appointed time, we sat down to a lovely salad, followed by a plated meal. I had the salmon with lemon beurre-blanc, fire roasted vegetables and potato wedges. Heaven on a plate, so flavorful and perfectly cooked.

My Sweet Babboo had the Chicken Cordon Bleu, also with fire roasted vegetables and potato wedges. His chicken was moist and flavorful with a crispy coating and melting cheese inside. Yum!

Dessert was a fresh peach cobbler with a hint of cinnamon and real whipped cream. I couldn’t finish mine, I was stuffed by then.

There are six spaces still available in the February We Love Virtual Retreat! Come sew with us and spend a fun day chatting about all kinds of things. It is a great opportunity to get advice from other quilters. We do show and tell ,too! Click HERE to register, just $5! Come and go as you please, you do not have to commit to the entire day. Right now we have 12 fun quilters signed up, don’t miss this! I will close registrations when we get to 20.

Looking forward to football and racing today. I’ll make some good snacks for our viewing pleasure, and relax. How’s your weekend going?
I love blueberry muffins! The British Car Club party sounds wonderful and the food looks delicious. Have a great week, Carole!
Those muffin tops sound so good, as does your Butternut Squash Lasagna! It is so nice that you can donate those quilts to your neighbors in need. The British Car Club party was quite elegant! Your meals were impressive! I’m looking forward to football this afternoon too Carole, enjoy your Sunday!

It looks like a fabulous week — and a tasty one, too. Between your wonderful car club event and your own cooking, I think the Carter family ate well! Loving that you are doing quilts of valor for your car pals, too!
Your muffin tops are such a good idea and look yummy! I should get a pan like that – the top is definitely my favorite part. The salmon meal. At your car club event looks delicious, too. Are you looking for a specific size for the hurricane relief quilts? I’m wondering if this one I’m finishing right now is big enough – it’s 48×60, I think.
Thanks so much! Yes, those pans are wonderful.
For hurricane quilts, we can use all sizes. Smaller ones are given to children, larger ones to adults. Full and queen size go to couples. Thank you for considering this project for a donation.
Looks like you had a great week. The concerto contest was this weekend, so I am collapsed in a chair reading blog posts to recoup! The kids all played well, a few little oopsies here and there that kept them from any hope of winning, but still a great day with some great music.
What a delicious meal, looks great.
Thought I could sneak a peek at your post before dinner – silly me – your dinner and others plates look so awesome – now I need to go shopping first! Still nippy here but took the grandsons to the woods to play at the frozen creek – I always worry it’s not frozen enough – but it’s been below zero and in the 20’s for a couple weeks. Came home with rosy cheeks and big smiles to be able to just leave the house for a while! Thanks for all the pics of the George and Gracie!
