Christmas Tablescape

I’ve been collecting pieces for this Christmas dish set for a few years now. Each year I seem to find another piece, one more mug, a serving piece, or something. It is stoneware, and we use it almost every day through December. However, I have been making an effort to donate or sell a lot of stuff. My set of Noritake china, white on white floral with platinum rims (92 pieces!) is currently on Craigslist, although I doubt it will sell. But I want you to know, I resisted the urge to buy a pitcher listed on eBay that goes with the Certified International set I used on this tablescape (see it HERE) but I haven’t given up hope of finding a sugar and cream set. The challenge becomes finding a way to set the table with the same dinnerware year after year, yet make it just a little different each time.

This year, I set the table with a eye toward using it for breakfast and lunch. The salad / luncheon size plates are put directly on green chargers this time, without a larger dinner plate.

The little bread and butter plates, perfect for biscuits and jam, are set beside the forks. Red napkins are held with my favorite Christmas napkin rings that look like little drums.

Above the plates, a coffee mug is set on the right, and a bowl on the left. For breakfast, hot oatmeal could go in the bowl. For lunch, a hearty soup would be good. The mugs might have some hot chocolate, or a hot toddy! Crystal water glasses, everyday flatware, and individual salt and pepper shakers complete the place settings.

There are four motifs in the set, a sleigh, a tree, a package, and a stocking.

Each plate also has a word – Love, Joy, Hope and Peace. The design is by Susan Winget.

The mugs and biscuit plates have missing motifs as I bought them piecemeal. I am missing a stocking motif mug, but I have two trees. The little plates only have the sleigh and the package on two of each. I have four of each item, but not all the motifs. So I mix up the motifs at each place setting so that isn’t obvious.

In the center, I put the wonderful dimensional centerpiece that a dear friend made for me two years ago. In the middle of it, I placed the big serving bowl that matches the set.

It is a festive table for any meal of the day.

I put the larger sandwich plate and big platter on stands on the cookbook shelf. My Jewelry Tree is hanging on the wall, and two of my little music boxes with a cute moose complete the display.

So, what’s for breakfast on Christmas morning? My favorite thing to make is my Holiday Breakfast Egg Casserole, because I can put it in the oven first thing, and it bakes while we get into our stockings.

We did the Easy Blueberry Turnovers for Thanksgiving breakfast.

Maybe you are having more of a brunch on Christmas Day. I really like this Milk Street recipe for Persian Eggs with Beef and Fire Roasted Tomatoes.

It might be waffles with bacon. Or maybe biscuits and jam. Who knows? Whatever My Sweet Babboo wants is fine by me.

What are you having for breakfast on Christmas morning? Are you setting a pretty table this month?

Beautiful Table !!! I always love seeing your tablescapes. I don’t do them myself but yours are always so beautiful. Are the easy blueberry turnovers in a Milkstreet recipe book ?

    Merry Christmas !

Lovely table! I don’t set a Christmas table until the day we celebrate (this year on Jan 2nd!) Christmas will be 18 of us with a number of meals together before it celebration. I don’t have enough place settings to have them out the whole time 😊

I have admired your Christmas dishes ever since I first saw them however many year’s ago that I stumbled upon your site. I find the sharp contrast between the black and the green and red lovely and they do make a beautiful classy holiday statement. I keep looking for a similar look in paperware to use for my church Christmas Tea table. Add a few brass candle sticks and some live greens and Ta-Da! Table done!

    1. Thank you, it is the black that appeals to me as well. Some years ago I found some Christmas paper napkins with black, and used them on a tablescape. Amazon has a lot of designs for Christmas paperware with black backgrounds, click HERE to see a wide variety. You are right, instant festive table, and you don’t have to store them for next year.

You set the prettiest Christmas table, Carole! Special dishes for Christmas are something I don’t have, except for a cookie plate, which is probably the most important piece, right?! I haven’t thought about our breakfast for Christmas Day yet, but it’s probably time to do that. Your ideas always sound good!

Beautiful table! My dining room table has a puzzle on it. LOL! Have you checked Replacements for your creamer and sugar? I went to that place once to sell some china. It’s an amazing place.

  7. Your table is so festive! I really do love your dishes and I’m glad you keep finding pieces here and there. I am trying hard not to buy one more dish — but sometimes you can’t resist!
