Finally, a couple of days of no meetings or appointments meant I could get back to the Paris quilt. I am doing a simple Disappearing Nine Patch pattern. I cut the strips 5-1/2-inches by width of fabric, and sewed the sets.

One tip for pressing, press to the common print in both strip sets each time so the block elements will nest. I like to use unscented Best Press, diluted 50% with water. I get it by the gallon at Amazon, and one gallon has lasted several years by diluting it. It works just as well as full strength. Buying a refill size is least expensive way to purchase it per ounce – Unscented Best Press. Ignore the calculation on per ounce price on the gallon size, it works out to 58-cents per ounce, then dilute by half. And the 32-ounce size is even a bit cheaper at 56-cents per ounce.

Dear reader Brenda sent the black on white print for the center of these strip pieced units and it looks just like what I wanted. They are cross cut into 5-1/2-inch wide units.

Then I sewed the blocks by nesting the seams.

I made twice as many of the top set for the top and bottom of the blocks, using the black on white print as the middle square. I had 14 blocks made in just an afternoon.

Then, each block is cut down the middle both lengthwise and crosswise into fourths.

Flip two opposite corners around and sew back together.

Oops, had to frog stitch this one.

Sew the blocks together, being careful to orient them all the same way. In my case, I put a small black on white square in the upper right corner.

Then I decided it wasn’t big enough, so I made more blocks.

Now that it was up to a twin size, I loaded it on the longarm. I put a tan Glide thread in the needle, and Bottom Line in the bobbin.

I began quilting it with a pantograph of interlocking fleur-de-lis called Wrought Iron. I’ll work on it as I can, quilting a few rows at a time. I have until September to finish it, so no hurry. I like having a quilt in the piecing stage and one on the longarm at the same time so I can switch back and forth.

Last week, our guild area got together for a sew day, and with the little time I’ve had to sew lately, this was a fun day. I’ll show you that one on Friday.

I’m on track for two completed quilts this month, which should help my Stashbuster totals. The only problem is that all this is for charity, and will be given away before the fair, so I have next to nothing to enter this year. I have got to figure out a new design soon! Or make another one of my existing patterns in a new colorway for the trunk show.
What are you working on this week?

The D9P block is so fun and looks so nice in the Paris fabrics. The miss- arrangement of that first block would be interesting too. It looks like a chain link.
So glad that you were able to use the black and white
fabric. I love the quilt!
Hi. Your Paris quilt is coming along really neat. Looks like you mastered the D9P. Of course there is always one that misbehaves.🤪. I have a question about the amount of each fabric you had to make the twin size you are coming out with?
This is such a fun quilt with those neat fabrics! I like how the D9P features the Eiffel Towers. What charity are you making this one for?
I had in mind to give it to Safelight, but I may try to sell it with the Paris Olympics this year. Then I’d have funds to do a special holiday gift for the residents. Either way, I won’t have it for the fair.
The D9P looks great and like it was a lot of fun to sew together. Having quilts ready to enter into shows is something that works really smoothly some years and feels like a push other years. I hope that something comes up that excites you to make.
Looks wonderful and you make it look so easy! Sewing for the children’s hospital with friends tomorrow and that is always inspirational. So much buzzing from the cicadas turns my brain to mush.
This is a lovely one, Carole. Silent auction? It’ll go quickly and well!
This week I’m working
Your comment was cut off, please try again.
The fabrics for your Paris quilt are fabulous. What a great tie-in to the summer Olympics! I have a quilt that’s giving me trouble, as in, I’ve had to unquilt it twice & the 3rd try isn’t going much better. I could have made 3 quilts in the time I’ve spent on this one. With no business meetings at my quilt clubs over summer I’ll have time to conquer that quilt. I’m confident you’ll find the right solution to your dilemma too.
I finished a National Park panel quilt today for oldest grandson. Usually they get money but it’s his 35th and his big interests are good books and National Parks. It goes off to the long armer tomorrow & she assured me I’ll have it in time to bind it.
I love Disappearing 9 patch so looking forward to your finish.
The Paris quilt came together fast!
Love this Paris quilt and the disappearing 9 patch. I have yet to sew this week. Maybe some quilting the next two days.
I do like the design created by the disappearing 9 patch. It is a great way to use these fabrics.
