Autumn Jubilee Wrap Up and One More Mason Jar Idea

“I can smell autumn dancing in the breeze. The sweet chill of pumpkin, and crisp sunburnt leaves.” – Ann Drake

Wow, it has been quite a month, wouldn’t you say? Lots of projects and prizes, winners from all over the US, inspired by Mason jars. I have one more idea for you today to put a Mason jar to good use.

I like the scented candles in the large jars, but every one seems to have the same issue when they get near the end.

I’ll light it, and in no time at all, the flame shortens and dims, then goes out.

There is still plenty of wax in the bottom, and I want to use it up. I tried this idea a few years ago and it works beautifully. If you have a coffee mug warmer, or a wax warmer, use the heating element. Set the glass candle jar directly on the warmer, turn it on and the wax will melt inside.

When it is fully liquid, remove the wick end and discard. Pour the wax into a small jar.

If you have a wick left from prior candlemaking projects, wrap the end around a chopstick, and suspend the wick in the melted wax. Then allow it to cool and harden.

Now you have a usable candle that will burn as it should.

If you do not have any spare wicks lying around, the wax can be used by simply using the warming element to warm the scented wax in the jar, just like using the ceramic tray. You can get the scent from the wax for quite some time, although the wax will not go down in amount. When all its scent is gone, pour it out, and you’ll have the jar to use again.

Now, let’s take a look at all we did during October. I hope you had a fun time! All Autumn Jubilee projects remain on the blog, so if you see something you missed, or want to revisit, just click on the Autumn Jubilee category on the sidebar. You’ll see this year’s projects and the previous seven years worth of Autumn Jubilee. This year, we did a quilt along over four weeks.

We made Mason jar crafts with paint and ribbons, and wraps for both the holidays and the sewing room.

We stamped and baked.

We played in the garden and the kitchen, with sewing, crafting and cooking new recipes. We started Mason jar herb gardens.

We made some fun things for the table with placemats, bread basket liners, centerpieces and candle holders with Mason Jars.

We made a wool applique penny rug for our Mason jar candle projects.

Here and there were ideas for gifts using the projects.

I didn’t get to comment as much as in the past as I was in Colorado for much of the month enjoying a wedding and vacation, but I am looking forward to catching up on some of the projects now.
