Updating early because of Autumn Jubilee, today we check in with our Stashbuster totals for September. Much of what I worked on this month will not be completed until October, so fabric out was a challenge. But the fabric ‘in’ was a delight!

You’ll see a lot of these fabrics next month! Aren’t they scrumptious? This is the Harvest Festival line from Benartex Fabrics. They are such high quality, with a soft hand and a lovely array of fall colors and prints. My inspiration from these fabrics ran wild, and we’ll have several projects featuring this line next month. Fabric in = 16 yards.

I knew I needed some fabric out, so I gathered a donation to take to the meeting last week. Total out = 8 yards.

The cradle quilts delivered were 18-inches square each, so front and back is 1/2-yard each. Add in fabric for binding, and count out 3 yards.

Then, we had a trip to Tennessee on Tuesday. A group of 15 from our local quilt guild drove up to Jonesborough to visit quilt shops and have lunch together. On the way, we stopped at the rest stop just a few miles over the state line, and this darling display was on the lawn. The mountains were shrouded in clouds, but we didn’t see a drop of rain.

First stop, Tennessee Quilts, and oh my, if you have never been here, put it on your bucket list.

The stairs leading to the second floor are a quilt show. So much inspiration in a little space!

Just look at the exquisite quilting on this one.

Christmas Fabrics galore!

Fabrics on two floors, with an entire wall of Kaffe Fassett. Not my cup of tea, but some of the other ladies had a field day.
What I loved was the wonderful array of fall fabrics, including the fabulous Benartex line Fall Harvest that we will use for Autumn Jubilee.

They have an amazing sale room, and I got this luscious chocolate brown fabric with gold leaves for just 3.20/yard, after the sale price and our group discount. I bought all that was left on the bolt, 4-3/4 yards. Oh don’t look at me like that, you would have done the same thing at that price. As it is, I promised 2 yards to a lovely friend, so my net in is only 2-3/4 yards.

We had an amazing lunch at Black Olive in Jonesborough. We were so hungry, I forgot to take any photos, but the food was fabulous. The next stop was The Sewing Bee, an adorable shop in an industrial area.

They have a collection of old sewing machines over their fabric shelves.

And more adorable designs and inspiration on the walls and in the displays. I did not add to my fabric stash here. But they did have some wonderful patterns and notions.

We planned to go to Bernina In Stitches in Jonesborough as well, but they had packed up the store and were moving the next day to a new location. Of course, that means that we need to go back again, right?
Anyway, that brings my totals to here –
September Fabric IN = +18-3/4 yards
September Fabric OUT = -11 yards
September Net Total ( + In, or – Out) = +7-3/4 yards
Year to Date (net total for the year, + In, or – Out) = -47 yards out

Sulky is having a 35% Off Sale on Stabilizer and Thread Assortments! Sale runs through the midnight on Sunday night. It’s the perfect thing to finish up more projects for next month!

What a fun trip!
I am so happy you had a good trip with out any weather drama.
The Fall display is such a lovely welcome to Tennessee!
I have been on a fabric diet for a very long time.
Wednesday I bought 1/2 yard of grunge for a pieced border I am making for one quilt, and two fat quarters of low volume
What fun going on a road trip. That was a long fun day.
I have been very ADD with a lot of sewing, doing Trust paperwork (a lot and 😖 makes my brain hurt) and just getting a used to a new life as caregiver to me and hubbs. The sunshine has been a real boost.
Oh yeah, I got horrible sacro iliitis on my left side, then my right side as a result of packing and moving dad’s stuff out of his apartment for two months.
I was pretty decrepit there for a few weeks

I don’t keep track of my fabric like some of you do but it sounds like as long as you are using it is is good replace some as well. I would have loved seeing all the bright color fabric that you said some of the ladies really liked. I would love to see that big quilt shop with the quilts on the second floor
I also took a trip to Tennessee Quilts last fall with friends. A wonderful day trip and a great shop. Thanks for the trip on the lunch spot. We’ll check it out on our next outing to TN.
Sometimes it’s more in than out I know you’ll put it to goo use!
What a great trip! I have wanted to go to TN Quilts !! Now I really want to go! Husband just retired and I am going to be cutting down on work too, which is a long time coming… So Hopefully that trip will come true. Love your post. My sister gifted me with about 2 yds of Fall fabric and I did make two table runners and four mug rugs as gifts. The most I have been able to do in a long time. Felt great to get those done – about three yds out. I need to use my stash up! Have a great Fall weekend – weather is Fall beautiful here in MI
Thanks for calling me a lovely friend!!!! Made my day!!
What a fun outing! I love the pumpkin scarecrow! The fabric you got is beautiful, I know your talented hand will turn it into something beautiful~
Jenna
That looked like a great time!!
I’m hoping to join Autumn Jubilee…after our weekend travels. Fingers crossed it works out.
Have been going to a quilt retreat for 10 years on the St Lawrence river. We decided to go to a Canadian quilt shop, Water Girl, just over the border. What a shop! They had some of the same fabrics and many I had not seen before. They were pleasant and new their inventory. The fabrics were $17 to $21 Canadian Dollars a meter. With the exchange rate, they were about what you’d pay in the US. Added a few fabrics that will fill in some blanks in my stash. Balanced this off with finished quilts and gifts.
September Fabric IN = 15

September Net Total ( + In, or – Out) = 8.5

I love the plaids in the Benartex collection you are using for Autumn Jubilee. I spotted them in your shopping photos so they must be available at quilt stores. Temptation!
What a fun trip. I need
to visit Tennessee Quilts. All of those look amazing!

My son’s quilt is ready for binding. I’ll finish it this weekend, so will have a big OUT for next month. It is looking great, hope he loves it.
My fabric in is from a monthly subscription. I cancelled it, found that I don’t care for their fabric choices or patterns. I had it for 3 months, a fair trial I think.
Heading to our winter home in a couple of weeks, ready for warm desert weather. Will see me son and lots of friends on the way.
September Fabric IN = +2 yds
September Fabric OUT = -18 yds
September Net Total ( + In, or – Out) = -16yds.
Year to Date (net total for the year, + In, or – Out) = -26 yds.
Better progress sewing this month. Summer is difficult to find sewing time so I’m hoping to do more now that autumn is here, on the calendar anyway.
Another slow month on finishing projects but lots of progress. NO NEW STARTS which is a very good thing to quote our friend Martha S.
September Fabric IN =2 yards (sashing to finish a quilt that did not get finished.) 🙂
September Fabric OUT = 11 yards
September Net Total ( + In, or – Out) =9 yards Out
Year to Date (net total for the year, + In, or – Out) = YTD total out is 84.3
I am thinking I need to start the month of October with finished a quilt or two rather than pushing progress on others. From my mouth to God’s ears. Let’s see if this works.
It was a good month and would have been better except for the gorgeous batik on the guild free table. It followed me home!
September Fabric IN = 6.75
September Fabric OUT = 43.25
September Net Total ( + In, or – Out) = – 36.5
Year to Date (net total for the year, + In, or – Out) = -124.75
Haven’t been to a really great quilt store in a while. Used to stop in Amana Colonies on the way to see family. This one you showed looks breathtaking!
I just need to put on the binding and it will be 8 yds out on this quilt – if I don’t open a window and throw the machine in the yard! Machine ways acts up when I need it the most – it knows! Absolutely finish off the bolt – and it really is a lovely fabric! Thanks
Sept Total out = 11 (19 if I ever finish this)
Sept Total in = 3 – too rainy to even shop for fabric!
What a sweet trip for your group. The fabric shop looks marvelous. I actually used a Kaffe Fassett jelly roll for a quilt I made using one of your patterns & it came out beautiful. Lots of background helped tone down the intensity. I bought 6 yds yesterday, background for a Burgoyne Surrounded quilt, but I had a lot of finishes so I’m still doing well on my net zero plan. Maybe next year I can do better & go negative. What fantastic fabric you have for Autumn Jubilee. Bring it on!
Sept was slow as I spent the first week in SC meeting my new twin great-grandsons! My quilt #54 was Easy Crows Foot from MO Star, done in chocolate and cream backgrounds and batiks in green, purple and blues. I’m almost done with the two QOVF mysteries and still have many BOM in the works. But been sick for 2 weeks! Did order a few 10″ squares and a jelly roll, so 6 yards in, but I finished using 10 yards, so my used fabric this year is 540 yards (minus the 6 I just added) so 534!! Not too shabby!!
That sounds like a fun trip with friends! Of course you should come home with something. I just had a delivery of 3 yards of 108 inch backing fabric today – such timing!
September In: 8 yds
September Out: 3 yds
Ytd In: 13.5 yds
Ytd Out: 14 yds
What a wonderful road trip. I will have to try to visit Tennessee Quilts.
More progress in August:
August fabric in- 4.50 yds.
August fabric out- 3.75 yds.
August total- .75 yds.
YTD total- 12.25 yds.
Oh I meant September. ‘Sorry about that.
I soooo miss fabric road trips! Nice to get to go along with you from my home.
I was doing well this month…9.5 yards out…covered my rocker cushions and donated some fabric I didn’t want to use. Only had 1.5 in and it was ordered for a specific project I’m fixing to start. Then, Bear Creek Quilting had their scrap strip packs on sale, plus buy one, get one free…couldn’t pass that up, so another 8 yards in. So, all in all, I broke even for the month, but still ahead for the year. Keeping my fingers crossed I’ll get the 3 tops I have pending quilting done in October. Have a top on my design wall and bedroom floor, and den floor, that has to be finished first so I can vacuum next week. Then, off to the quilting.
September Fabric IN = 9.5 yds
September Fabric OUT = 9.5 yds
September Net Total ( + In, or – Out) = 0
Year to Date (net total for the year, + In, or – Out) = 40.75 yds out
Once again, I am catching up for two months. My quilting room has been almost completely restored and reorganized with repairs to the cutting table, storage, closet and ironing table completed. I was able to quilt and bind the four Comfort Quilts that I had cut and kitted the day of the house fire which means four finishes totally from stash and two supplemented from the group! Whoo Hoo!
August In: 0 yds.
August Out: 0 yds.
September In: 17.5 yds (quilt guild sale)
September Out: 19. 4 yds.
September Net Total: -1.9 yds.
YTD Total: +21.85 yds.
Looking forward to Autumn Jubilee. Thanks so much, Carole.

I am reorganizing and sorting and cleaning my sewing studio. I did get 2 small quilts quilted for a total of 8 yards out. My que is growing I put two more on my list from completions on retreat this week. I have a friend that owed me 15 yards of fabric for my composter we bartered for and she is moving away. I went home with 22yds but whos counting, I found some fabric panels and other lovelies I did not want anymore in my stash and took to quilting and got rid of 24 yards that gave me some room to put that new stuff in.

Carole, Here it is… the most wonderful time of the year. I love October and Autumn Jubilee. I am so glad that I live in a world where there are Octobers, said Anne Shirley in Anne of Green Gables and so am I!
I had a good month using up fabric with charity sewing as I made a lap quilt, a crib quilt and 6 kitty pet mats as well as a few other fun projects.
