Stashbusters May

Stashbuster report time! It wasn’t a great month for finishes for me. With multiple visits to the ortho doc, and too much time sitting after injections, I got more reading done than anything. The good news is that missing the guild meeting and no shopping time meant no fabric in.

I did finish the little red cuddle quilt for the Ethiopian orphanage. Although I didn’t get a photo of the finish, it only had binding added from here. The size was about 40 x 50, and I am counting 3-1/4 yards out for top, backing and binding.

Last weekend, I finished the blue and yellow table topper. Counting it as 2-1/4 yards out for top, backing and binding.

So, here are my totals for the past month.
April Fabric IN = Zero
April Fabric OUT = –5-1/2 yards
April Net Total ( + In, or – Out) = -5-1/2 yards
Year to Date (net total for the year, + In, or – Out) = -32-1/2 yards out!!

Your turn! Copy and paste, then fill in your totals in the comments

If you need to remind yourself where you are year to date, click on Stashbusters April and scroll down to the comments to find yours.

Please share your quilting with free motion, using rulers, or other ways of stretching yourself in your quilting on our Facebook Friends of From My Carolina Home group. I have a great prize to give away, but very few entries. I’ll be drawing a winner this week for the fabulous prize box, so post what you are doing soon. Have a great week!

I’ll be away from the computer today, so I hope you don’t mind, but I will probably not be able to respond individually to the comments on this post. So, for everyone, if you have more ‘out’ than ‘in’ either for the month or year to date, Great Job!! And if you have more coming in than going out, keep plugging away! There is no deadline to post your totals, so anytime is fine.

How did you do in April?

For my own stashbusters efforts I managed to stay the course at net zero, but somebody gave me a big bag of fabric! And also 2 bags of books. I took 2 sheets out of the bag to use for backings, but a lot of remainder is more suitable for home decor, curtains or slipcovers, not quilting cotton. I’m going to use it for pet beds & donate them to the local shelter. Take care of your knees Carole, I think of you everytime I walk at the rec center. The track is above pickle ball courts & they’re always full.

  2. This has been a month of progress for several large quilts but since they are not finished, I don’t count them. Watch out summer when I do!

    April Fabric Out – 15.5
    April Fabric In – 2.0
    April Net Total – 13.5
YTD Total Out – 47.25 (I am shocked at this number. Success is sweet!)

  3. April :
Input: 2 yards blender (actually purchased last month) Claire’s Quilt, 4.5 yards Missouri Star -future to be decided (loved the fabric and couldn’t resist)
Output: 5 yards-Jojo Quilt finished for quilt show, 3 yards for sunflower wall hanging finished for quilt show.
Total: 6.5 yards in. 8 yards out Total for year thus far: -8 ( I’m finishing up UFOs! Big quilts are done working on smaller ones)

My April was a very low sewing month, also. I was busy with volunteer work at church, first during Easter Week, then on the 75th Anniversary Committee, I am the chair. So, I was organizing meetings and working on my main project…writing a Keepsake Booklet, essentially a timeline narrative of the first 75 years. This involved many hours of research and scanning photos. My deadline was the 30th, when it had to be ready for the printer. I don’t expect much to be done in May either, as I have two other projects to complete before the event on the 21st. I did make a small Easter table runner for church, however. Here are my totals:
    IN: 0 yds
    Out: -1.5 yds
    April total: -1.5 yds
    YTD total: -14.75 yds

We’ve been under construction refresh (flooring/paint/doors/trim) and sewing came to a halt when I had to empty my studio. It is now finished and I’ve done a rough reset in the studio so binding construction/application will commence. There are 5 in the binding pile.

    April Fabric IN = +2
    April Fabric OUT = –zero
    April Net Total ( + In, or – Out) = *2
Year to Date (net total for the year, + In, or – Out) = *21

My strippy stars is nearly done. Ready for binding. I’ve made progress on place mats I’m making for a friend. I should finish both of those projects this month. I want to start a small wall hanging for a friend in a nursing facility, and I have a queen size top ready to sandwich. No shortage of projects for me!

2 quilts finished in April. One for a friend and one we are keeping. I like to keep a few! I had to buy 3 yards to back the one for a friend. Didn’t have enough of a cute child print here at the house.
    April Fabric IN = + 3 yards
April Fabric OUT = –10 yards
    April Net Total ( + In, or – Out) = Out 7
Year to Date (net total for the year, + In, or – Out) = In-18.5

    April Fabric OUT = –0
April Net Total ( + In, or – Out) =+5yds
Year to Date (net total for the year, + In, or – Out) =. -41.5yds

Took advantage of a scrap sale at one of my favorite quilt shops. Always adding to my scraps to give me some variety. I will have several finishes in May, so the “out” number will be a good size. Other than that, I m trying to use what I have! So far, it’s working well….
Hmmm…well, I just looked back over my totals…if I had not finished 2 king size quilts earlier in the year, I’d be in trouble. I’ve added 32.5 yds of fabric to my collection so far this year…🫣. I just thought I was doing good…☹️

My sewing has slowed way down since moving in with our daughter and her husband. My fabric isn’t even all here yet and it’s really difficult but I did bring a few UFOs that I can work on.
April Fabric IN = + Zero
    April Fabric OUT = – 6.5 yds
    April Net Total ( + In, or – Out) = 6.5 yds
Year to Date (net total for the year, – Out) = 12.5 yds

  10. Our charity sewing group gets donations of fabric and someone gave 3 panels – 2 Batman and one Minion. Would it be rude to say I don’t like panels? They tend to be sideways. But they also sent yardage so turned these into bunk bed sized quilts 55 x 60 and have used “everything but the Moo.” But have been using up the scraps with your QAL and managed to stay out of the quilt shop! So a zero in/out from my stash. Thanks for keeping us mindful of our “stash”! Now if I could do that with cookies! Thanks

    April Fabric IN = +11.5
    April Fabric OUT = –5.5 April Net Total ( + In, or – Out) = +6
Year to Date (net total for the year, + In, or – Out) = +5.25

Not bad since I just got back from a 10-day vacation with a quilting friend! :>)

  12. My neighbor gave me 4 yards of gorgeous fabric that I just could not resist. Will make a nice back for a charity quilt. Made a number of charity quilts and finished some quilts for our quilt show this weekend.

    April Fabric IN +4
    April Fabric OUT = -29
    April Net Total ( + In, or – Out) = 25
Year to Date (net total for the year, + In, or – Out) =-120.25

May is going to tease me with temptation : 1) the quilt show vendors brought gorgeous fabric and 2) the retreat I’m going to is above a quilt shop.

Thank you for helping us be more aware of our stashes and purchases!

It was a slow month for me as most of my sewing was done on guild fabrics for their projects. But, I did make a bit of progress.

    April Net Total ( + In, or – Out) = – 17.75

  15. Good morning,
Not sure if my previous post went through so I’m resending it today.

I didn’t get any finishes this month. But started a few more. I did pick up some fabric from a friend, 9 1/2 yds most has a plan for stitching but . . . . not this month. Although I am still in the positive out. I have two retreats planned this summer so hopefully I will get some tops ready for the quilting machine.
    April Fabric IN = + 9 1/2
    April Fabric OUT = –0
    April Net Total ( + In, or – Out) = +9 1/2
Year to Date (net total for the year, + In, or – Out) = +22.2

  17. I got a lot done but not finished, which is when we count the fabric. Next month will be an awesome count, but for now…here is where I stand.

    Fabric in this month: 12.26
    Fabric out this month: 4.00
    Fabric in this year: 36.25
    Fabric out this year. 31.75
    NET Fabric: +4.5 yards!

  18. Connie S. Wolfe

No finishes in April and a large purchase at a local quilt guild’s fundraiser changed my stats drastically.
    April Fabric In: 41.25 yds.
    April Fabric Out: 0 yds.
    April Net: + 41.25 yds.
    YTD Total: +20.5 yds.
    Connie W.

  19. April Fabric IN = +3.5
    April Fabric OUT = –7
April Net Total ( + In, or – Out) =-3.5
Year to Date (net total for the year, + In, or – Out) = -29.167
I’m hoping for a great month in May; I have three shirts to make for DH, 2 quilt tops to finish, one to quilt, a new pad for the piano bench and hopefully something for me!

I can’t believe I haven’t posted this year. I am now coordinator for Ryan’s Case for Smiles in my area and I just placed a huge order for us because I found quality fabric really cheap. I’m going to be one busy woman.
I did buy panels to make quilts for Project Linus and a local camp. So my fabric purchase is as such and I started 2 quilts while waiting for the Cases order.

April Fabric IN = +40 yards
    April Fabric OUT = –0
    April Net Total ( + In, or – Out) = +40
Year to Date (net total for the year, + In, or – Out) =+40

  21. Angie VE

In= 10 (Camille’s new collection FQB arrived this week!)
Out= 0 – had spring break at the beach and just didn’t have my sew-jo
    April sum: 10
    YTD= -52

    Carole,

Looks like you had a good weekend with Mini Dragons. You also had a good month of stash busting in spite of tender knees.

I finally got out to a quilt show and was surprised to come home with so much fabric. Then I had to hustle my butt and get a few projects to the finish line for a slight dent in the stash. L

Loving spring and the gardens and activities but not getting quite as much done as usual. Stay well, Jan

    April Fabric IN = +10
    April Fabric OUT = –12.75
April Net Total ( + In, or – Out) =-2.75
Year to Date (net total for the year, + In, or – Out) =-58 1/8

I am doing a class for my local guild in June so have been getting ready for that by making some samples. I purchased some background fabric for those and am using from my stash for the rest of the quilt. I also was given some fat quarters which contributed to my in total. I also purchased some backing fabric for some tops that I want to quilt and finish up. I was able to complete and gift two quilts plus donated some fat quarters to my local guild. As a result, my April in was greater than my out.
April Fabric IN = +34.5 yards
April Fabric OUT = –19 yards
    April Net Total ( + In, or – Out) = +15.5 yards
Year to Date (net total for the year, + In, or – Out) = +203.5 yards
