Autumn Jubilee Quilt Along Finish

Finishing the quilt along today, I loaded the top on the longarm for quilting.

I used a pumpkin patch pantograph called Meandering Pumpkins that is perfect for fall inspired quilting. It is designed by Patricia Ritter for Urban Elementz.

The cute pumpkin is surrounded by leaves and vines. The quilting is done with a medium brown Glide thread on top with Bottom Line in the bobbin.

So cute, and the quilting went well this time too.

I found another print that had enough yardage for the binding. I put the binding on the top by machine, then hand stitched it to the back.

A bit of hand sewing while watching football games, and the topper is done.

Backside Fabrics sent this wonderful new wide backing print in a neutral tone. to showcase their stunning new prints. This is the Oberon Wide Quilt Backing Fabric Collection designed by Satin Moon Designs for the Blank Quilting Corp. There are five colors to choose from.

Today’s giveaway sponsored by Backside Fabrics for a $50 Gift Certificate! Just Visit Backside Fabrics website and leave a comment on the wide back print you like best. Backside Fabrics is not an affiliate for the blog.

If you don’t have a fall quilt for your guest bed, the Quilt Along Table Topper could serve as an accent piece there, too.

Which wide back from Backside Fabrics appeals to you most?

I try to match the color family of the top on the backing and to hide my less than stellar quilting I get a busy backing. That being said, I really like the Mad Plaid by Kaffe in turquoise. I adore your beautiful fall quilt. I’d be making it along with you if I weren’t up to my eyeballs in Christmas gift quilting.

That’s a hard one. I love the dotty spirals, but, then I saw the stone henge gradations. Man, that would be a tough decision as I love them all!! Thanks!

I love your pumpkin quilting! Beautiful quilt!! I when to the shop and I like the 108 Wide width in Cobblestone – like their neutral selection of fabrics!

  4. Mary Stori

Wow…..I had no clue there were so many wonderful options for wide backings……I loved the Timeless Treasures Forest View…..it would be perfect for so many of my mountain landscape art quilts!

I’m a long time shopper BackSide Fabrics and it seems they are always adding something new. I’ve never noticed the “Promise Me a Rose Garden” before and it really jumped out at me today. Perhaps it’s time I start a new quilt to compliment that after I finish the Autumn Jubilee topper. It’s lovely! I love your topper but I have fallen behind. I am sewing the blocks together to form the center and I will be adding borders soon. I do want to get it finished and get it on the table. I’ve been so busy lately preparing for retirement but today it the official start of my new life and I have time to do what I want when I want. Yippee!!

Thank you for sharing your top, beautiful! It was wonderful to be directed to a company with so many wide backings. Who knew? It’s great to have so many more options for wide backings.

  7. Pat Semeraro

I LOVE to use flannel when I can buy a good quality. Mammoth Flannel Wide Quilt Back Blue would be amazing.

  8. Mary Ed Williams

Where is that pattern? I think I have part of it but I can’t find it. Pretty much standard for me these days.

  9. Nancy Lewis

I love picking a pretty backing for my qults. I would like to use the Oberon. It would look pretty on lots of different quilts.

  10. Super finish! The meandering pumpkin motif is perfect. Of the wide backs I love the mottled blue of the Cottage Calico Extra Wide Tonga Batik Quilt Back Oasis. It would be great with so many of my quilt tops.

  11. Sheila

What a sweet little topper,Carole. A perfect little touch of autumn decor. Thank you for the quilt along. I love the Oberon widebacks at Backside Fabrics, especially the buttercream.

  12. Sharon Dawson

I love Backside Fabrics. The Oberon Buttercream is beautiful and the Boughs of Beauty is also beautiful.

  13. Debbie Miller Meyer

I am drawn to the Northcott Stonehedge line and my absolute favorite is the Oxidized Earth. Such pretty colors!

  14. Betsy Pompi

I was using the current table topper as a reference point and liked the 108” Henry Glass Splash in the oranges as a lovely backing. I love having pretty and interesting backings on my quilts.

I’m eager to finish my 2022 AJ quilt! I loved the design so much I kept making blocks so it’s going to be a throw size rather than a table topper. Backside Fabrics is one of the favorite places I found on a previous AJ. I used the Stargazer wide panel as the backing on a quilt & it was so popular they’re using the quilt upside down.

  16. Elita @ Busy Needle Quilting

My favourite is surely Small Triangle Dots Tonga Batik Island but as they have so many other beautiful ones, I’m sure I’ll be finding new favourites every week! 😉

Just finishing the top of a Christmas quilt and the Holiday Flourish Poinsettia in Red would be the perfect finish. Love your finished topper. The Autumn Jubilee has been so much fun. Thank you.

  18. I love the pantograph of the pumpkins and leaves. This quilt is adorable.
I saved the instructions and really have so many scraps and large pieces I would love to make a zillion of these. The design is adorable.

I have never used wide back fabric. It seems so convenient instead of sewing a very long straight line and pressing regular size. I love fancy coordinating backings and this shop has many sweet ones I cannot pick a favorite. I seem to fuss a lot about each quilt backing that will go well with the front and have never backed a quilt with a fabric from the same collection (I do not think…)
    I love the Floral Crochet.
This Autumn Jubillee has been such a joy this year. Thank you Carole

  19. Your AJ quilt turned out beautifully! Both the backing and binding are perfect for it. I haven’t gotten back to mine this week after finishing up the blocks, but hope to this weekend. On the Backside Fabrics site, I really like the Paisley in the Wind backing.

  20. Your topper turned out beautifully and I love the panto you used for quilting it. Backside is my go to shop for wide backing since they were a sponsor several years ago. I love how their fabrics are torn instead of cut so there is little waste. I’d like to get some Decostitch.

  21. Darlene M Johnson

A tough decision for sure! But man I love the Galaxy color of the Reverie by Ruby Star Society.
I also like a number of the P&B textiles designs

  22. Patty Brenner

Your quilt turned out beautiful. I’ve been wanting to make holiday quilts for our beds, but seeing yours on the bed made me think that perhaps holiday bed runners might be a better idea (and faster to finish, lol) I have a Christmas throw that needs a backing, and I think the Ivory Holiday Flourish Pointsettia would be beautiful – and the throw could be reversible. Thanks for letting us know of another great company!

  23. Carolyn Montgomery

I love the Eclectic Elements Expedition Multi Wide Quilt Back by Tim Holtz. Great variety and neutral enough to blend with most other fabrics.

  24. Which wide back from Backside Fabrics appeals to you most?
106″/108″ Bliss Wide Quilt Back Purple (my daughter likes purple!)
I’ll be browsing more because I have a number of tops that need backing!

I lobe the topper accent on the bed idea!

  25. Becky

Any of the Kim Diehl wide backs would work for my current quilt. Thank you for another online shopping experience

  26. Joan Sheppard

Really enjoyed watching this go together – why is fall so busy? Can hardly catch my breath and you have so many more things going on – thanks for all the pics and directions.

  27. Cocoa Quilts

I love that they have so many choices. I have shopped their many times for backing. Right now my favorite is Darby in the white and bright.

  28. Debbie Miller

I love “108” Effervescence Wide Quilt Back Water by Robert Kaufman”. I am currently piecing a black with multiple shades of blue tumbler quilt top and this would be perfect!

  29. Connie S Wolfe

I saw the Benartex Paisley (black with multi swirls) on an earlier email from Backside Fabric and instantly thought, “WOW!”. That ‘s my choice for today’s giveaway. Using the table topper for the bed was a great idea.

There are so many choices the Peacock flourish opulence by Benatrx if one of my favorites and its on sale?

  31. Kathy E.

Backside Fabrics is such a wonderful company to work with! I’ve bought from them a few times and have been very happy with their prices and products. I’d love to back any project with Art Gallery’s 108″ Decostitch Cloud Wide Quilt Back. It’s a favorite of mine!

  32. Alexandria

First I saw Holiday Flourish, perfect for a Christmas quilt. Next, Promise Me a Rose Garden, lovely for my next quilt, but then Northcott’s Universe won my vote.

  33. Donna F.

I really like the Oberón collection. I am a big fan of tone on tone prints. Especially like the red for this time of year.

  34. Julie Kennedy

The Aurora Borealis backing really jumped out at me–gorgeous colors!
    Your finished quilt looks fantastic!

  35. Susan N.

I had a hard time deciding as there are so many I really like, but settled on the Value Collection Marbled Wide Quilt Backings, especially the Placid Blue.

  36. Pam S

What a beautiful finish! Thanks so much for sharing this project. My favorite backing is Timeless Treasures Snazzy Flowers

  37. Angela VE

I love buying a bolt of white backing from them and then just hand over the bolt to my longarm quilter to cut from it what she needs! I’ve done this several times already in case that’s not already obvious 😂 And the sales remnants can be good finds too!

  38. So many lovely wide backings on the Backside Fabrics site….I loved the Shadows in Sage by Oasis fabrics. It would be perfect for a quilt top I made in 2021 and have yet to find the perfect backing fabric until now. Wonderful post, Carole, as usual!
