Autumn on the Blue Ridge Tablescape

Nothing is more beautiful than Autumn in the Blue Ridge mountains.  We are so lucky to live here, and the explosion of color in the trees is wonderful, even in a year that has been too warm for too long.  Finally, we are seeing some of the Autumn glory, now that the temperatures are getting cooler at night.  It is the ideal time to showcase a pretty table of Autumn leaves. Now, here is the fun surprise, another free pattern to come! Bernie from Needle and Foot sent me some fabrics she will have in a bundle, and I have a project to share with you using them. Fun placemats for your fall table! Today, I’ll show you the tablescape. Tomorrow, we’ll do the pattern for the placemats.

I began the tablescape with the centerpiece.  I placed Autumn color silk flowers in a cream color ceramic basket with some glittery pumpkins.

On either side are Indian corn, two silk leaf garlands, a couple of ceramic pumpkins and my crackle glass candle holders with unscented tea lights.

The colors are perfect for the Autumn season.

On the placemats, I placed chocolate brown chargers, my rust color thrift store ruffled edge dinner plates, and topped the stack with the Asheville Leaves plates from Pier 1 (no affiliation, just an addict).  The colors in the salad plates are mirrored beautifully in the placemats.

Nutmeg spice napkins are added, held with wooden rings.  My good sterling flatware comes out for the season.

Cut crystal vintage wine glasses, along with individual salt and pepper shakers complete the settings.

All done, an explosion of Autumn color in the dining room.

I love seeing this every day, and hope that it encourages the leaves outside to turn.

I love setting a fall table. I host the extended family Canadian Thanksgiving annually and have for several years, so my autumn table has steadily increased. However, we have now outgrown two tables and I know that the family and food take centre stage for most of my guests. I stilllove pulling out various items and reflecting upon years and people that have passed.

Your landscapes are lovely. I don’t take the time to fuss or have room to store all the different components.

  3. Susan

Love those “ ruffled” plates. The colors of autumn always warm my heart. The fabrics and table setting are just lovely.

  4. Beth Stanfield

I always create a centerpiece for Fall after putting on my leafy tablecloth. It’s not as elaborate as yours but it sets off the sets off the Autumn season. I use dried gourds and usually a tiny pumpkin. This year our oldest granddaughter helped !

  5. Your bee-you-ti-fullll table makes my heart sing! The colors, the dishes, the centerpiece—all so inviting. Makes me want to sit down to share a meal and good conversation. Placemats are so fun. I like how they are bound with different fabrics. Loving Autumn Jubilee!

Fall festive at its best! Beautiful and so welcoming. I miss not having a proper dining room, I really miss it. Thanks for sharing! Enjoy.

Your Autumn tablescape is so pretty. I love to set a tablescape and I love using table runners and placements for each season. I can’t wait for your tutorials!!

We rarely eat at our dining room table and it’s usually covered in my husband’s collectible merchandise, but I did clear it off while he was out of town and put a “Corn, beans and squash” table topper on it. The table table topper was made several years ago for a guild challenge. It’s always a pleasure to see your wonderful tablescapes and admire all your thrift store finds. You have a real talent for making things inviting.

Yes I do love to set a pretty autumn table-but nothing as lovely as your table scapes. Love those dishes too-our leaves here at the lake are just beginning to turn as well

This year I’ll have company for the International Quilt Festival. I will have someone to set a pretty table for. My answer this year is yes, I will set a pretty table.

Luv your table setting. Im from midwest…now living in the desert southwest…i sure miss all the colors of fall in midwest.
Ordered the fabric..looking forward to the pattern
      Thank you

  11. Your table is just beautiful, and the hedge hog fabric you chose for the bundle is just adorable! I really like the plate layers you did on this, the ruffles are so unusual. 😍

Just returned from a first trip to North Carolina. Enjoyed your blue ridge mountains. Did part of the parkway, the arts community in Ashville, and the apple orchards in Hendersonville. Oh and Sandburg’s home in flat rock. Great trip.

Absolutely stunning Carole. Love all the beautiful fall colors that make such an inviting table setting. Bet you can’t wait to have friends over to celebrate this most beautiful time of the year with. I would be willing to bet, that each day, upon awakening, you visit that gorgeous table, touch a piece or two and just admire your artwork, and I would be doing the same, if it were mine.

I do enjoy decorating my table for fall, but it doesn’t look as gorgeous as yours! I love all those bursts of color!

  15. I love the fall colors, too, and your table is so pretty! I always (at least!) have a seasonal tablerunner on my table. The placemats you’re making are fun – and Bernie’s bundle is very tempting!

  16. karenfae

love your table setting and those placemats too I do not know why I don’t devote time to make some I just never do

  17. Susan Stanton

I have pulled out many of my pretty fall quilts to place around the house! My newest table topper is on the dinning room table and has great fall colors Just waiting for out of town guest to arrive this week!

  18. Janey

Your blog helped me appreciate fall. We have had two snow storms already. Fall was only 2 days long. So as the cold wind blows, thank you for your beautiful and cheery message to all of us.

  19. Joan

Your table settings are so beautiful. Does your area have a house walk? Most of our family lives close in the same town and divide up the holidays, I get Thanksgiving. So thanks for this wonderful idea. We have a white with gold harvest design. The kids collect leaves, dry and press them scatter them on the table then we cover them with a plastic tablecloth. (Lots of kids, lots of spills. The older kids set the table and the little ones put out the “folded” their way napkins. Then we pile a ton of food on top. Not nearly as lovely as yours but the kids are very proud of themselves.
Thanks so much for “opening your home” to us.

  20. Connie Wolfe

While I thoroughly enjoy your tablescapes, I only do tablerunners and a centerpiece at my house. I have 2 tables here. My goal is to have a seasonal runner for each in the upcoming year.

  21. manasotavacation

Gorgeous….I love the fall palate….and am hoping it will soon appear here…thank you for sharing this lovely tablescape

  22. I love seeing your Tablescapes. Mostly my table is covered with sewing, but I do like decorating for the seasons. Thank you for all you do & your fabulous sponsors.

  23. Brenda

I giggled when I read the above comment about her table being covered with sewing. So is mine. I used to decorate but now with only me, I sew. I get pleasure just looking at yours. I did check out the bundle at Needle and Thread and looked at the individual photos of each fabric and the last photo is a wonderful photo of you! Thanks for all your beautiful decorating!

  24. travelingro

Your home decorating (garden, etc.) is always beautiful. I love the way you decorated for Fall … and enjoying the Autumn Jubilee …

  25. I don’t have a ‘formal’ dining room, or any dining room for that matter :). But I do like to decorate for fall with vases of fall flowers, knit and crochet pumpkins, garlands and other fall colored items. Love those place mats!

  26. Loris Mills

Well, if I didn’t love an Autumn tablescape (which I do!) those placemats would certainly get me fired up for one 🙂 The plates and decor are all beautiful!

  27. Diane Schulert

I love your table, and the idea of visiting your local thrift store,…guess where I’m going today?

  28. Jennie

Love to set my table for each season. Fall is my favorite time of the year. Thank you for all thew great ideas.

  29. Love your placemats, and the fabrics are just beautiful. I used to have a table set up all the time, with chargers and plates and pretty silverware. Believe it or not, it was my husband that loved the look. Now we have 3 cats that “decorate” the table, so the chargers and plates sit in the china cabinet. I do make and use table runners though, so I’d love to have that fabric – lol!

  30. Margaret

I do like to set a pretty table during autumn, particularly because autumn colors are my favorite. I must say though, that my table doesn’t look nearly as spectacular as yours. I have an autumn table runner, candles and a couple other things, so my table setting is quite simple. I can tell that you love putting together beautiful table settings – they are all just lovely. Thanks for sharing them and inspiring all your readers!

  31. Susan S

Last year I made new pumpkin placemats and thanksgiving placemats. i had to immediately invite friends over for a meal so I could use them! I will have more things to add each year now to the table.

  32. Judyk

Yes, I have a tablescape for every season with fall being a favorite one. I keep collecting and adding. Love to see your ideas, it sparks my imagintion.

  33. Your tablescapes are always so pretty and I admire them. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time or the talent to create them at any time of the year. Maybe someday. Thanks!

  34. Niki W

Your table scapes are so lovely and inspiring. I am not nearly so ambitious about decorating mine, but I did get out the autumn placemats and candle holders yesterday.

  35. Joy Breedlove

I do have my table set for Autumn, and I love your tablesetting. The placemats and those Pier 1 plates look so good together! Leaves are getting prettier daily here, too.

  36. thedarlingdogwood

Your tables are always amazing! I do not do any seasonal table decorating, but I do put small seasonal quilts on the front door. Right now we have tiny pumpkins!

  37. Camille

I do like to set a table for the seasons and holidays but my effort is much less elaborate. Storage space is an issue. Your place mats are outstanding and every item complements the others.

  38. catkiz

Lovely tablescape! I’ve always loved to set a nice table for the Holidays or for company. Everyday, though, not so much. You always have nice ideas and I’m looking forward to the placemat information!

  39. Beth T.

I mostly set an autumnal table at Thanksgiving. If I try to do it on an everyday basis, our cats knock everything onto the floor. Most days, I stick to a table runner and call it good.

  40. Sharon Schipper

Always beautiful inspiration, dear lady! We had leaves one day, a snow and hard frost on the 10th, and all of a sudden the next door neighbor’s leaves ALL fell in one day! on our yard somehow! It warmed back up some, but in the 50-60’s days now, and we have projects to finish for sure. New grandson in September, and trying to decide if I’m going to retire or go part time. You keep me inspired, and I have the leaves table runner (what, 2 years ago??) almost hand quilted (using big stitch for fun) and ready to use. Love the fall….

  41. Becky Gilliam

Love the look of your table. Right now I cannot find my table under mounds of stuff I am moving around to accommodate my machines. I’m hoping to have it all cleared by Christmas tho!

  42. Debra Miller

My table decorating is not any where as nice as yours-my husband fusses that “all that stuff” gets in his way. I use simple placemats with fall colored napkins and a beautiful set of maple leaf copper napkin rings that I found in a local thrift store.

  43. Brenda @ Songbird Designs

You always create such beautiful table scapes. I don’t usually decorate as my table is always full of cutting mat and rulers and the occasionaly sewing machine!!

  44. dezertsuz

One of the things I like best about your tablescapes is how often they include individual salt and pepper shakers – no more embarrassment as I keep asking people to pass the salt – no more comments about my blood pressure (which is just fine!). Thank you. LOL
