Veterans Day was a weekday this year, so the British Car Club committee for the Veterans Drive planned an event for the Sunday after. Three British car clubs from North and South Carolina gathered for a lovely autumn color drive in the mountains. We had 33 cars, and most of those had two people, so a big group.
We started in Brevard and wound our way around beautiful trees on back roads for over an hour.
Mountains seen between the trees show beautiful color all the way up to the top.
We brought picnic lunches and chairs, and the club provided soft drinks and cookies to eat after the program. There was a ceremony to honor all the veterans in all three clubs.
Then a BCC member that I nominated almost three years ago received a Quilt of Valor. You know what caused that delay. I didn’t make this one, it was provided by the Pickens County SC group. The ceremony was lovely, with the backdrop of the mountains in their colorful glory.
Having lunch with a friend this week, I had a new special sushi roll at Champa called a Sunkissed Roll. Salmon and yellowtail tuna with avocado, cream cheese, green onion, tobiko and a spicy sauce. Yum!!!
In the sewing room, I am working on the red and white quilt. Reader Joan S sent me 35 more red and white ones, so I mixed those in with the others to put more prints in each one. I’ll be making two of this colorway now. I began with sewing pairs of blocks.
I intended to put them with the peaks up, but laying them on the longarm to keep them out of the way, I turned the rows sideways, and I like the light/dark diamond shapes. So now, should I do them this way or my original idea?
I also put together nine blocks that were too small to use in the Safelight quilts.
That is pretty quick sewing, and I had a yard of cute Bunny Island fabric for a backing.
It was loaded on the longarm, and quilting is really fast with just a freehand design. I’ll finish this off and donate it to Project Linus. It has been a while since I made them a quilt.
My class on Well Loved Quilt Repair Class is full, and I have begun a Wait List. Next class will be in early 2022, and when there are enough people interested, I’ll email everyone so we can find a time suitable for all. If you’d like to be on the waitlist, click HERE and fill out the form. I have three on the list and we need five to make the class. Class is limited to 15 participants.
