Celebrate Birthday Card

A special lady has a birthday coming up, so it was time to get out the stamping stuff and get creative.  I really enjoy making and sending cards, and every birthday and holiday is an opportunity to create something new.  Starting out this time, I decided to use the embosser once again.  I have some new embossing folders, and you know that means I have to find a way to use them.

I like this hummingbird stamp, and I have a new idea for the inside.

This time, I used the versamark on the stamp first, then loaded it with purple ink.

This gave me a nice clear image.

I then covered the image with clear embossing powder,

Tapped off the excess, and used the heat tool to set it.

This created a raised outline to use my new blender pens to color.

When I got to the bird, I referred to my bird book for suggestions.

Since the little hummer that visits here appears to be a girl, I made this one a girl too, with no red on the throat.

I added some patterned paper to the left edge, a birthday wishes stamp to the upper right corner, mounted the hummingbird on the embossed paper, and glued it down.

Now for the inside, my sentiment stamps are small, and the card was large, so I needed to create a larger design with some additional stamps. This is three stamps. The flower and the ‘Celebrate’ are overlapped slightly to create the feeling of it being one unit.  All were stamped in the same color purple.

All done. Of course, my handmade by Carole stamp is on the back, but I forgot to get a pic of it.  I like the way that the embossed outline has a bit of shine to it.

Are you doing any stamping?

your card is lovely. I just finished this years Christmas cards. two hedgehogs, one handing a candy cane to the other (stampin Up)

  2. Total #CreativeGoodness. Very special handmade birthday card which I’m sure the recipient will love. I have not worked with embossing powder that much, but love the look. Didn’t realize it would work with VersaMark ink. I’ll definitely pick some up and give it a try. Thanks for the tutorial.

  3. What a precious card…what a lucky lady that will receive it. I have NEVER tried stamping but this is so lovely it makes me want to try. This goes way beyond personalization…it’s a one-of-a-kind piece of art. Thank you for sharing.

The card is beautiful. I save all the cards I get and I write the dates and what occasion I received them for and I go through them every now and then just to look at them. My son writes the date on the cards before he sends them out. He,too, saves all the cards that he receives much to his wife chagrin. Guess he gets that from his Mom. 😃

  5. beautiful, lots of thought, and love behind the finish. I haven’t done embossing, stamping, but years ago did print cards using a computer software program. Yours is so, so much better, personal, and a gift all by itself.

  6. Good Morning Carole! Your card is beautiful! Hummingbirds are so unique and delicate looking, but you really watch them and they are tough and go getters. Since all of my flowers have died off due to our over 100’s temperatures the past few weeks, we have not seen any of our favorite flying birds.

You really do a super job at being creative and making each of your cards unique! It has to be a lot of fun, yet hard to choose where to begin also. I am glad that you share these projects with us! As you know, I do not stamp or emboss any cards; but, I do hand embroider some. Only, I have been so busy with other projects that I have not had the opportunity to make any at all. I am working on several hand embroidery projects though. LOL. I get bored with just one, so I usually have 2 or 3 going on at a time. Today, I am sewing the last row of the “football” sections (as Deanna calls them) on the Double Wedding Ring and then will begin putting the top together. It is finally reaching the point, I can actually see it being done!

    Have a fantastic creative day!

Wow, you are even talented with cards. I find that my scrapbooking and cardmaking are sorely lacking. I have very little imagination when it comes to them. I love this birthday card. The recipient is very lucky.

    Good Morning Carole,

Such a beautiful card. My birthday was Sat., turned 76 and looking forward to many more. Had a beautiful card from one of my best friends I went

To school with just today and it had a beautiful butterfly with some very colorful flowers on it, just the type of thing I enjoy so much. Haven’t

Gotten into making the cards, have too many other things in the pot to make but I have invested into the coloring books and carry one with me when

I take my son to see the doctors.

You do so many things like I do but recently I cann’t find the time to do a lot of them, how in the world do you do it?

Have a great weekend of fun.
