Yes, there is a day devoted to donuts, how great is this! As much as I like to have a donut at one of our local shops, I cannot do it often. Making them at home, I can bake instead of fry them, and make some great donuts with fresh ingredients. DH likes them, as I don’t cover them in sugary glaze, well at least most of the time. I have three recipes for donuts on the blog, and here they are.
Lemon Donuts with Tart Lemon Glaze. These do have more glaze than the others, but it is a very tart glaze, not a sweet coating. Using one whole lemon, the zest goes into the donut cakes, and the juice is used in the glaze.
Spiced Pumpkin Cake Donuts. These are great with or without the glaze. They taste like pumpkin bread, and can be served plain, with the glaze, or dusted with powdered sugar. All are good!
Apple Donuts use fresh apples, that I usually get at the annual Apple Festival. Big chunks of apple and light spices make a moist and tender donut that doesn’t need anything more.
You will need some donut pans, but they are easy to find at local crafting stores. Use a coupon, be sure to get two as all my recipes make a dozen.
I wrote a post on National Donut Day two years ago, with a bit of history on the day, talking about our local shops and reviewing a book series set in a donut shop – click on National Donut Day 2014 to read more.
Lastly, a gift for you to thank you for being faithful readers! I have gathered my donut recipes into a free ebook pdf file for you to download if you like. Just click on Carole’s Cake Donuts. Happy National Donut Day! More great donut recipes coming soon!

Thanks!
I need donuts.
Happy Donut day.
Good Morning Carole! Yummy, Yummy Donuts! I still have not tried your Donut recipes but maybe Deanna and I will have to make some today, since we are having a 3 day get together and sewing up a storm! Thanks for sharing and have a fantastic creative day!
Yummy the pumpkin donuts sound so good to me. When I was a young girl living in California, my parents had some friends…her name was Hazel Bishop and his name was Bob.
Well, one day Hazel was watching me and my sister and Hazel had us girls in the kitchen helping her make donuts. Oh they tasted so good. We even made glaze to put on them. Funny how sometimes something will trigger an old memory. This was back in the late 1960’s.
Thanks so much for the free download. I will definitely like to try them.
Thanks for the download. I will surley make some.
