This looks so fun! I have plenty of dark scrapes but not enough light scrapes. Do you think using all the same fabric for the lights will work just as well (even tho it wouldn’t be truly scrappy then)?

Good Morning Carole! Oh thank goodness the day has finally arrived! I know I have been patiently awaiting the posting date! Later on today, after a procedure at the hospital, I will be starting my journey with this Mystery Scrap Dance Tango Quilt Along! I do not know why, but I was expecting to use all darks once again. So, this is really quite a surprise. I realize that you are giving us the choice to use a dark main fabric, which I think is an excellent choice being a designer. That way you are covering the bases for both types of fabric lovers. Yet, that leaves quilters like me, who love both dark and light backgrounds with scraps a very difficult choice to make. LOL. Scrap Dance Tango sure is intriguing, bringing thoughts of beautiful ballroom dancing, the glamorous gowns and those moments when you hold your breath because of the moves. You definitely have caught my attention and oh yeah, I am going to be searching for some specific fabric scraps that make me think of this.
Thank You, Carole, for all of your hard work in preparing this Mystery Quilt Along and getting all of the necessary information researched and put together for all of us Scrap Dancing Tango quilters who are already guessing and scrambling to our scraps to get just the right fabrics and get to the ironing board and cutting board! This looks like fun! Can you tell me the dimensions of a Lullaby Quilt, please. Is it crib size, approximately 45 x 60?
I have never heard that term before, but I like it!! Dimensions might be helpful to others also.
As I said above, I am not going to give dimensions just yet, and you’ll see why later. It is a mystery after all!! But a lullaby and crib would be similar. Hope you have fun! Welcome to the quilt along mystery!

I’m in! I LOVE scrap quilts and was sorry I didn’t get to do Scrap Dance as I loved it. I have zillions (not literally) of beige BG 2 1/2″ HSTs leftover to use up, so I MAY be able to keep up. LOL

This will be fun! But I’ll be using more yardage rather than total scrappiness because I’ve said, “Aw, just give me the rest of the bolt,” too much in times past. Now I’m strictly a fat quarter girl! I’m in, will use black background and fasett fabrics + jewel tone batiks, but will march slightly out of step by making my HST a trimmed size of 3″ – just finished Bonnie Hunter’s Allietare mystery and need a break from tiny!
I am also going to use chunks from stash rather than pure scraps, will either use one black with white spots or all,of the various pieces of different solid blacks on my shelf.
Busy, busy, busy…. Last week I finished Bonnie Hunter’s Allietare quilt, then hunted for scraps to cut out the Scrapdance (no longer) mystery – all the blocks are completed and waiting to be joined, and yesterday I cut out fabric for yet another mystery quilt. There are also project boxes containing the pieces for two quilts for grandsons and one with partially stitched pieces in Japanese fabrics for my youngest son.
So maybe I should wait for a few days and finish what I have in progress, but I know I won’t!
I am ready to quilt along! I finally made a Flickr account and requested to join tonight. I know i’m a little behind the times but i somehow feel like i’ve lost 2 months even though i know i haven’t!
Yay! I’ve been waiting for this! Will it look okay with one background fabric? I was planning on a light blue solid with darker mediums and darks for the scraps. But I don’t want to do that if it will look funny.
I looked at the numbers again. Looks like there are actually more background squares than “scrap” squares. Would I be better off using one fabric for the “scraps” and actual scraps for the background?
I don’t think that would work well. Scraps for background would likely change the overall look of the quilt and lose the intended pattern.
I so want to take part in this mystery! I tried to print the instructions so that I can read them at my machine and work along as time allows. Problem is that I can’t print these so they are readable. Am I doing something wrong? I would like to do this mystery when I have the minutes to work on it.
I really have no idea how to make printing work off an internet page. In the meantime, you can bookmark the page, or save it to a Pinterest board so you can find it again. Or just make some notes as to what you need for your size. I will produce it as a pattern for download at the end of the mystery. Hope that helps.
If you use the “SNIPPING TOOL” that you find on your start menu-all programs-accessories; then you can “snip” the part of the page you want, and then PASTE it into a word document. This is how I do all of mine. THen I save them on my computer, printing out only the most essential part of the instructions, not all the photo’s, which eat a ton of inc. Is there a PDF file for the “Scrap Dance Tango” January so far ? I use an ipad and save to an ap called “docs to go”. I am unable to copy and paste into any files.
