I know you have been wondering what I decided to do with all those leftover flying geese. Well, today you find out. When I finished the Busy Bees quilt, I had enough time to put a lullaby quilt together for entry in the Mountain State Fair. I thought, something cute with a border of flying geese would be nice. I had the idea of just a simple round robin to start, and I decided the center should be an embroidery. So, I went to my embroidery library for some bee related motifs. The category rules state that the lullaby quilt must have a juvenile theme, so I picked this cute embroidery with a great message for kids. Just Bee Yourself

I trimmed the stitchery to a square, and added a border of honeycomb print.

I added a second border of a black background print for contrast, then a border of little squares of various bee theme prints. Continuing the construction in a round robin style, I lay out various prints to audition for the next round.

The white was too plain, so I swapped it out for a light background beehive print.

Ultimately, I went with that one, and put a narrow border on to separate the squares from the flying geese to come. The flying geese were sewn in sets of 12. This used up 48 of the 68 I had left over from the other quilt.

As I did with the other bee quilt, I fussy cut squares for cornerstones. A final border repeating the honeycomb print is added.

I loaded it on the longarm with more of the honeycomb print for backing.

Quilts for kidlets need to be soft and cuddly, so a medium density pantograph was a good choice.

I quilted it in white Glide thread with yellow Bottom Line in the bobbin.

The batting is Warm and Natural.

It was done in just an hour or so. Good thing since by now I was close to the deadline to get it done by the turn in day for the fair.

I made a binding from the same honeycomb fabric and sewed it onto the topside by machine. I knew I could finish the handwork in time over the weekend.

I now turn attention to the next events coming up – Fall Fortnight is starting on October 11th. I have the quilt along ready, but I am still in the design process for the other projects. Prizes are lined up, and they are wonderful again this year. Luckily, I have a light week ahead to sew and write.
