We had to have one small project that used embroidery! With a leftover Santa panel, I made a cute little cookie plate mat for Santa’s treats on Christmas eve. Do you believe in the magic of Christmas? Here we go!
Find a cute sentiment and stitch it on your embroidery machine. If you don’t have one, you can stitch out a sentiment by hand by simply writing the words on a piece of fabric with a pigma pen, then stitching over your lines.
For my project, I used one of the Santa panels left over from the Quilted Christmas Bucket project. I matched the colors on the stitchery to the colors in the panel.
I lined up the panel with the stitchery, making sure the sentiment was centered top to bottom with the panel. Then I trimmed the bottom edge.
Trim the top edge.
Trim the sides and sew together.
Quilting is fast and easy on a domestic machine for a small project like this one.
Bind as usual. For mine, I had just enough of a print that matched the colors in the panel well.
And there we are! Another fast and fun, scrappy project that used up some leftovers.
Holiday panels can be a challenge, so here is another way to use one. Separate a panel like this one into its components. Each one will become a table topper or runner.
The center section has a scrappy border added, then is quilted and bound. Using a print with a black background brought out the black in the motif.
One of the boughs in the remaining sections is surrounded by three borders, one with squares for more interest.
The other got a flying geese border. This one is a favorite of mine.
Pull out those panels, and stitch up a holiday project. Happy Holiday Sewing!

I do like the way you are incorporating your embroidery machine projects into quilting projects. When I got my first machine I wasn’t using it very much because I always thought I had to embroider “ON” something. This is a great way to combine essentially two hobbies. Well done. Love the way you used the panel with the truck. You got a lot of use from one panel! I agree about the one with the Flying Geese, my favorite too.
