Sunday Chat – Car Show and Upcoming Fun

Yesterday, our MINI club participated as a group in the Autumn in the Mountains car show. Knowing it was coming up, I found some autumn theme ducks for the cars and tied little cards I made to them as a sort of party favor.

They were so cute with their fall leaf wings and acorn caps, and I think were a hit with the car owners. I took extras so I could put one in MINIs that were not current members.

I made up a photo scavenger hunt for us as well, with things like a British Flag, seen here on the side of our AMM banner. I also had Woodstock on the list, you can see him on the table next to the basket. Imagine my surprise to find that someone had a Snoopy and Woodstock sticker on their car, and another member had a Snoopy and Woodstock cooler! There were 10 items for people to find, all contained within our MINI group.

A total of 30 MINIs registered in advance for the show. Most met at a local grocery store parking lot for a parade into the show field, while a few came directly to the show. Ours is the red roadster on the left.

Two full rows of modern MINIs!

Plus a bunch of classic MINIs too.

Autumn brings the desire for comfort food as the temperatures get cooler, so I made my Stuffed Peppers this past week. I like using yellow ones because they are milder than the green ones. My Sweet Babboo likes them too. Here’s my recipe – Stuffed Peppers For Two.

It’s time for a new tablescape, but I just haven’t gotten to it yet between all the other things going on. Here’s last year’s for your inspiration, and I’ll get a new one done soon.

I did put up a few fall quilts to get started on fall decorating, including this one from last year’s Fall Fortnight.

Speaking of Fall Fortnight, I have the dates set now. It is delayed just a bit because I need a bit more time to get it together. We’ll start on Sunday, October 19 and go to November 2. There are some great prizes this time, and several have already arrived at my house, like Quilter’s Dream battings!

Benartex is giving the event these wonderful fabrics, along with some fat quarters for prizes! Look for Benartex Give Thanks at your local quilt shop (psst – my local quilt shop, Beginnings, has it!).

Stashbusters is coming this Wednesday, so get your totals ready!

We have enough money in our Safelight project to do a special Halloween event for the adults and the kids. I’ve been collecting some really fun stuff! I’ll be making treat bags for both the adults and the children, with stickers and candy and fun stuff. More on this later.

This week is fairly quiet, with just one appointment and one meeting. So, the plan is to get the sewing room cleaned up and begin putting together the first delivery of spa bags for Safelight. I hope to deliver sometime the week of the 6th. Then, I’ll start on the Halloween treat bags, and hopefully get the Benartex Give Thanks fabric so I can make a couple of the Fall Fortnight projects. I have the patterns done with scraps, and I can’t wait to do them in these gorgeous prints.

What are your plans this week?

  1. You all have the best fun! What clever ideas and the ducks are cute. I’m with you on the pepper selection too. My week’s plans are temporarily scuttled for my foot issue. Can’t do a lot when you can’t walk!

  2. Good Sunday Morning! It feels like fall here today! It looks like you had a great time at the car show! I love the Fall Ducks! The scavenger hunt sounds like fun. It forces people to focus on the details! 🙂 I’m glad you were able to enjoy some nice weather for the show.

I hung my bell pull from last year’s Fall fortnight and put out my other fall quilted/embroidery things a few weeks ago. I had the grandkids over for their final swim before we closed the pool and thought that the fall decorations would reinforce why the pool must be closed. Looking forward to Fall Fortnight! 🙂

That looks like a very fun event! I love the little ducks with their acorn hats. I’m ready for fall foods and decorating. Your stuffed peppers are yummy – I’ll have to make them again, too. Looking forward to Fall Fortnite! That’s a gorgeous fabric line from Benartex. I wonder if my LQS would have some – I’ll have to go look!

Mmmm, stuffed peppers. I only buy red, yellow, or orange peppers. Green peppers are beautiful but I don’t find them as digestible as the other colors. Leaves are falling. Squirrels seem to have a big nut in their mouths & are eager to bury it somewhere for safe keeping. Requests for knitted pumpkin hats are coming in. Time to go make some, it’s almost October.

I’m glad you had fun at your car show. I look forward to seeing your fall decorations. I started decorating some yesterday. I’m sure the Safelight Halloween bags will be appreciated. It is wonderful how much you do for others. Have a great week.

I’m excited to be going to my guild’s quilt retreat this week! I need to finish my prep today.

Your car club evens look like so much fun, with that beautiful NC mountain scenery.

Those ducks are adorable! We are going to Nashville the end of this week so I’ll be busy getting ready for that. I have a box of spa kits for Safelight that I’ll be sending tomorrow or Tuesday.  Have a great week! ~Trish

The car club members must enjoy the fun things that you think up to entertain them. It’s fun for you too. There is a healthy membership and they seem to support all the events that are planned.

Like you I’m not fond of green peppers (they keep returning!) but eat all the other colours.
I’ve got Potatoes and Strawberries to plant today. They should be in but it has been too wet and cold and they would have just sat and waited for the warm to start.

Enjoy your week, I’m sure you have some fun plans afoot! 😊

How fun, Carole! Those autumn ducks are adorable, and I bet they went over really well. Love all the minis. I’d actually love to have one of those for tooling around town. 😉My neighbor has a red & white one he bought used, just to travel to work (less than 3 miles each way). They have a second home in Nags Head, but his wife doesn’t want him to drive it there anymore (due to the fact that she recently had a collision with a deer in their SUV), so they bought an additional car for him for when he drives to NH (like maybe this week, to check on their home if Humberto or Imelda cause flooding).

The stuffed peppers look amazing. I like yellow (and red) peppers also better than green.

    Have a great week,

So much fun in this post: ducks with acorn caps, pretty minis, the news of a fall fortnight! It has been a busy season here, but one more weekend of company then I am hunkering down!

  11. The Mini Event looked well attended this year, and the photo scavenger hunt sounds like a great way to get people walking around too! Love those ducks.
I have spent this week finishing up lots of projects in preparation for the Endless Combinations contest coming up in October. Today I merged two Pendleton shirts into one for DH and finished a pillow cover. My stash buster total will be good this month!

I have my first two projects laid out and will do two more tomorrow I hope. We can begin cutting and sewing on Wednesday, so I will be ready to use any of my free time.

    Carole,

I put six sets for the women’s shelter in the mail on Friday and the tracking says they are due to be delivered on Monday the 29th. I wish I could’ve done more but time got away from me.
