Project Linus Quilts and Baking Day

With Stashbusters check in coming on Friday, I needed to get these Project Linus quilts done. I’m going to have quite a bit of “fabric in” this month! It was a beautiful day when I loaded the second one onto the longarm frame. So, I opened all the windows to let in the fresh air while I quilted.

I used the same pantograph on both quilts, a flowing curve called Fascination.

The first Beatrix Potter / Mother Goose quilt had a backing of bright yellow and green. I used the remnants to make the binding, and applied it to the back first.

Then I turned it to the front and topstitched it in place.

Once it was finished, I added a label to the back for our local guild.

Here’s the corner. The yellow picks up the yellow from the center area.

On to the squares quilt. I had used a tone on tone backing for this one, so I pulled out the scraps of Mother Goose print to make its binding.

Turned to the front, and sewed by machine.

I like this method as it makes the front look nice with the stitching line on the fold of the binding.

All done, the soft colors blend nicely.

Thankfully, they are both done well in advance of the next guild meeting. Both have labels and are ready to deliver, so I can count them out on the Stashbuster report.

Sunday was cool and rainy all day. My Sweet Babboo was out of baked goods, and I had set aside that day to bake a bit. I had bananas, apples and blueberries to bake into goodies for his breakfasts and occasional treats during the day. When I was done, the counter was full of cooling, fresh baked breads, donuts and coffee cake.

The bananas were baked into quick bread loaves. I double a recipe from my Good Housekeeping cookbook, and add two tablespoons of cinnamon for two loaves. My Sweet Babboo loves cinnamon.

The Apple Cake Donuts recipe is original, and can be found on this post – Apple Cake Donuts. They go amazingly well with Salted Caramel sauce as a drizzle on top for dessert.

The coffee cake is my Vanilla Orange Coffee Cake recipe, just leave out the orange and fold in a pint of blueberries before layering in a tube pan for baking. Recipe on this post – Coffee Cake.

Yesterday, I pulled another lullaby size quilt from the stack in the closet that I will donate with the Project Linus quilts. It is high time some of the multitude of sample quilts from years ago went somewhere they can be used and loved. Some I have to keep as they are part of my trunk show, but I need to take a hard look at what can be sold, and what doesn’t sell can be donated. So, sample sale coming soon, I just need to get everything measured and photographed for a post.

Stashbusters Check In is coming on Friday! What are you working on now?

What a beautiful day you had for quilting! That’s a pretty pantograph. I have found that a FMQ swirl on my domestic seems to be the quickest & nicest finish on the comfort quilts I donate. I love applying the binding as you do, a neat and durable finish for a quilt I hope will be used & washed. Can’t comment on the baked goods, I’m gaining weight just looking at the photos, so delicious.

Always love the baby/youth quilts! We don’t meet till next Wednesday (Sewing for the Kids) feels like years ago but only a couple weeks – finished a scappy quilt, now to do the dreaded binding. I always said if feels like it takes longer to bind than quilt. I like to go back to front as well. I’m saving the binding ends and some lucky quilt is going to get the Wild Binding! 6″ to 12″ ends … Thanks for all the tempting recipes! and inspirational quilting. (hiding in the basement sewing until the cicadas go away!)

  3. When I machine finish my binding, I like to use the same method. I think it looks the cleanest. It sure did look like you had beautiful weather – having all the windows open is a sign of a wonderful day!

Those are such sweet fabrics for the Project Linus quilts! I bet it feels good to have them done. And yummy goodies, too. I love anything with blueberries in it!

Hi, I’m late to the party. LOL Tried to download the Apple cake donuts but must be an older link as it would not let me get to the site. They look yummy. Got the coffee cake with no problem.

Thank you. My husband loves donuts but we are not to eat fried foods so this may be the answer for that.

  7. These are both darling quilts. Project Linus is lucky to have you. I might have to try that Orange blueberry coffee cake (once I get through my next doc appointment!) It looks fabulous!
