Delivering the Cradle Quilts

Boxes came in last week every single day. I let them collect for a couple of days and then went to the PO to get them. This day were two boxes with a lot of little quilts! Thank you so much to Lori G who sent 7 cradle quilts, Carol E who sent 16!

On Friday, I made the last trip by and picked up five more boxes. I was able to email four of the senders, but one did not have a name on the return address label and no note inside. I hope that person sees this post to know their package arrived. Thank you to Dawn L who sent 7, Amy C who sent 18 many with cars and tools for the little guys, Kristy S who sent 10, Doreen W who sent 8, Diana Z who sent 8, and LW in California who sent 2.

I bagged up the ones that were to be delivered and set them on the fireplace hearth in the basement to wait for Monday when the delivery was arranged. There are 265 quilts in this delivery.

This brings the total to a jaw dropping 338 cradle quilts! You all are amazing. This turned into a much bigger project than I ever imagined!! Yesterday, we stuffed the MINI’s trunk full, and delivered them to their shop. The members of the Apple Country Woodcrafters were amazed and delighted to have so many cradle quilts for their Christmas project. We were met by Mark Lesher, second from left, and two more members of the group, Judy Nicholson on the left, and Karl Schultz next to me on the right.

My Sweet Babboo helped unload the many bags of little quilts, and we took them inside to see some of the toys in progress. A huge stack of cradles were waiting for final touches, and we set a few quilts in them just for fun. Mark was happy to pose one more time.

They were nice enough to invite us to come to the party where the toys are distributed to the agencies who will give them to the children. We hope we can make it, and will bring you some pictures of that event if we can go.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this charity project!!

What a fun delivery! Those cradles are so pretty. My sisters had doll cradles so I got to play with them before they moved on to my nieces. My daughter’s father in law loves wood working. Here I am anticipating a handcrafted cradle for my granddaughter! LOL

  2. The outpouring of kindness on this project is just amazing! From the woodworkers, to the quilt makers , to your leadership in making the connections…just amazing. Thank you!

  5. thank you for keeping us contributors in the loop of progress in this outreach. next year, we (quilters) just might provide more cradle quilts than those really cool woodworkers can produce cradles! HA!

    1. Yes, it is definitely your fault, LOL, for suggesting the collection in the first place. But what I thougth would net about 30-40 quilts did 10-times that amount!! Quilters are such kind and generous souls, and I am proud to have a lot of them as friends.

Look at all those quilts! And the cradles they’re making, too. This has been a fun event to participate in. Thanks, Carole!

There will be a lot of happy children Christmas morning thanks to you and all your helpers ………what a great way to start off the “giving” season!

  8. When you first announced this project I suspected you would end up with a huge response. Quilters are always looking for ways to help and small projects are so much fun. Very happy to see the response Carole!!
