New Year’s Eve

I had to work on New Year’s Eve this year, so I didn’t plan a gathering.  You can read about my party last year with our Champagne taste test, bottle bags, and get my Jumpin’ John black eye pea recipe on my post New Year’s Good Luck.   Today, I had to do a quick post to remind you to put your money outside this evening!

I have no idea where this tradition came from, but my mother did it, so I do too.  You hide some money outside on New Year’s Eve, then bring the money into the house on New Year’s Day.  It is supposed to bring good fortune with it, as long as it is still there, LOL!!

It is said you should do on New Year’s day the things you want to do all year long, so I am going to do some sewing on New Year’s day and relax.  I will not be doing any laundry.  I am working on the blocks for the next mystery, and it is looking good!    Look for the first post around the end of next week

OH!!  And set your recorder for Sunday night, the premiere of the last season of Downton Abbey begins!  Our local PBS station is also showing Downton Abbey specials both before and after the new episode.  For my newer followers, I am a huge DA fan, and was able to visit the Biltmore House last spring to see the Dressing Downton exhibit.  Click on the link to see the promotional photos I was able to share like these.

Happy New Year!!  Do you have plans for this weekend?

  1. Happy New Year to you as well…sorry you have to work. I’ve never heard of putting money outside, but hey – it can’t hurt!
I’m a HUGE Downton Abbey fan as well and have my DVR all set to record…squeee, I’m so excited but I’m also bummed that this is the last season 😦
No party plans for me tonight, just staying in and sewing!

I’ve watched all the Downton Abbey series and was sad to watch the Christmas Special last week, the last ever Downton – I won’t spoil it for you by mentioning the story line. We have a new 6 part TV series WAR & PEACE starting 6th January and Lily James, who played Lady Rose is playing Natasha Rostova. James Norton is playing Prince Andrei Bolkonsky – I’ve seen him in a few tv programmes this year and he is one of my favourite actors at the moment (I have a bit of a crush on him haha). It is a very lavish production from the BBC and you would love all the costumes – I expect it will be over your side of the pond in 2016 – here’s a trailer – – and before I forget – HAPPY NEW YEAR 2016 to you and your family – thanks for all the lovely posts on your blog – I read them all 🙂

  3. We do the black eyed peas but have never heard of the money thing before. Could be why I’m always broke 🙂 I never got into the Downton Abbey show. I probably would have liked it but Hubs always watched something else at that time and I never thought of recording it. I have to work tomorrow so no big party plans here. Happy New Year My Friend.

    Happy New Year Carole.
I hope you have a nice day today. Doing just what you like all day tomorrow sounds like a very good plan.
It appears that the weather is finally going to change and we have sunshine today. This is very encouraging.
I am truly sick and tired of the weird rainy grey days for over two weeks – not that I am all on fire for snow and ice… really.
However, the SUN is so great to see today.
Okay I will get all of my chores done today and put the money outside too.
Tomorrow I hope I can sew, bounce a baby and play the piano.

  5. Welllll….I geuss I’m setting out some money tonight!! The champagne is chilling and we are having friends over for dinner (he’s a New Years Baby) So I’m baking a cake today. TOmorrow hubby and I will be home quiet and comfy. LOVE THAT!! I’ve never watched Downtown Abbey…maybe I should???

  6. Good Morning Carole! Putting money outside is one I have never heard of, but I will give it a try! We really have not celebrated bringing in the New year for to many years to remember. LOL. I admit laughing, I am usually sound asleep at that time of night. On New Years Day we do not do anything special either. Hubby does like to have black eyed peas and corn bread, me who knows. I do usually sew. I am working on free motion quilting a quilt for Deanna right now, so that will most likely take me a few days. We are all anxiously awaiting for the start of the Mystery Quilt Along! Have a safe and fun evening at work!

I haven’t followed Downton Abbey either. Hubby usually has the TV in the evenings. I have heard of the the black eyed peas and cornbread tradition but not the money one. As others have said, it can’t hurt!!!
Looking forward to the new mystery quilt too.
May 2016 be all you need it to be….

Well what on earth is your job that you have to work tonight?! How do you do everything you write about, document/report it & be creative & work too??! Pretty amazing! We’re just back from Christmas with the grands across country, plane delays, etc., & tho wonderful, we’re really glad to be holed up at home tonight with a fire in the fireplace, shrimp cocktail & baked brie! My Mom used to put coins on the windowsill per your $ legend. We’re out of luck with no windowsills, but perhaps a hiding place under the bushes. . . Never saw one DA show, but sure enjoyed Poldark only a few weeks before the season ended! Looking fwd to seeing reruns, and now reading the story on my new Kindle! Hubby’s gift to me, perfect for travel! Going to try to participate in the new Quiltalong. . . all the best in your New Year!

I could certainly use some prosperity! I’ll have to see if I can find a dollar. LOL Of course, you didn’t say you have proof it works. =)
