Lemon Twist Progress

Significant progress was made on Lemon Twist last week and yesterday. After I finished the blocks and sewed them together, I was fairly happy with the colors and layout. Here’s where we left off.

I decided to do the alternate border design that completes the lattice, so back to the sewing machine to make the border blocks.

Border blocks alternate with plain background blocks. In order to keep everything straight, I placed it on the longarm to be sure I had the blocks right and the corners correct. This is my design wall, LOL, since I have nothing else I can use other than the floor.

Moving around the top, one side at a time round robin style, I completed all four borders. This added 16 inches to the quilt in both directions, and I still have final borders to go. So much for making a throw size!

I auditioned the two fabrics I wanted to use, to see if I liked the green as a narrow border, or if I wanted just the blue.

OK, green is going in. Cutting strips at 1-1/2-inches, I sewed the first border on.

I added the blue next. I was hoping to have enough to do the border and the binding from this fabric, but it is not going to make it.

Borders on, top is complete.

A search in the stash for backing was proving to be frustrating, as everything that looked good didn’t have enough. But, I did find an off white floral tone on tone that will just have to do. It isn’t ideal, but I think it will be fine. I washed it, and will get more progress today loading it on the longarm. I’ll be at Beginnings tomorrow, and will take a piece of the blue with me. I’m pretty sure I got it there, and maybe I can buy a bit more so I can do the binding.

So, I’ll be sewing today and Friday, and maybe do a bit of stamping as I need some cards. I need to embroider four more towels for the Fiber Fair, repair a hole in my husband’s shirt, and sew a patch on a book bag for a silent auction. What is on your agenda for the week?

Backings! I can always find enough for the top of a quilt but rarely have sufficient yardage for the back. For utility quilts, a pieced back is OK, otherwise I’ll need outside intervention. I hope you find the match for binding. Lemon Twist looks so refreshing! Perfect for a hot summer day.

The borders look great. I’m glad you added the thin green border. It looks really nice paired with the blue. I am currently scrambling to complete a double Irish chain quilt for my cousin who is getting married August 2nd. I grossly overestimated how much free time I would have to work it. Fingers crossed I can finish it to get to the quilter for a rush job by Friday.

What a great quilt! I really like the quiet colors.

I’m trying to finish a quilt for the guest room before family comes to visit in a week.

That is going to be so cute when quilted! Adding the green was a good choice. I think the binding would be cute in a small blue or green stripe.

Lemon Twist is just gorgeous, Carole! So summer-y – it makes me think of lemonade and sunny, blue skies. Have fun quilting it!

I’ve been working hard & fast on a hexie quilt. I think it’ll be a nice baby quilt size. Love your Lemon Twist. It’s really pretty!!

The Lemon Twist is looking great. The borders are perfect. I love those two green and blue print combinations. They just sing. Good luck the next two days with all of your projects. I’m working on some charity blocks.

I like how you completed the lattice out to the edge. It gives the quilt top a graceful line and balance.

Hoping you find the binding fabric you need.

I do like the delicate colours in your quilt. Looking forward to seeing it quilted.

I need to get my machine serviced so not much going on there! I am experiencing ‘trigger finger’ which requires an injection in the finger and today is the day!! 😵‍💫

I love the quilt. The borders really set it off. I am still working on the crocheted bird afghan for my mother. I am also trying to organize my craft supplies which is a big job. Have a great week.

I ALWAYS seem to run into that problem. Lots of stash, but never the right amount to help me out! That is why I recommend to new quilters, do not try and build a stash! Mine, even though I try hard to use it, is most of the time, a waste of money. ☹ Planning to sew my fat quarters together to use them for backings as needed for projects where you never see the back. Thanks for sharing this project with us! Linda F.
