Did you know that yesterday, February 13, was Galentines Day? It is a made-up holiday started by the TV show Parks and Recreation in 2010. It has grown in our culture over the years as a day to celebrate friendships between women. I have two very dear friends who have helped me get through some stressful times this past year. I wanted to let them know just how special they are. Remember the secret project, this is it!

When I saw these fun mugs on the Sulky website, knew what I was going to do. I ordered One Block At A Time Mugs in several colorways in the big 20-ounce monster mug size. Then I got out my threads and made an embroidery design.

I used my Embrilliance free program to do the sentiment of Happy Galentines Day!

Then I added a sewing machine with a little quilt block. I embroidered one in navy blue.

The other is embroidered in dark purple.

I trimmed both to 5×7-inches.

I found a great scissor print on a black background with both blue and purple scissor handles. This became the frame. I cut it too big at first, so it looked out of proportion. I trimmed it down to 2-inches all around.

I put them on the longarm, because it is just easier to quilt with it. The backing is a fat quarter of the same print.

I custom quilted the little mug rugs starting with ribbon candy in the border in black thread.

Then I stitched in the ditch around the border.

I did both pieces in the black, then changed thread to an ecru to stipple meander in the ecru section with the embroidery.

The binding is put on as usual with stitching to the front with a 1/4-inch foot.

The binding is hand finished on the back.

All finished, here are their mats and mugs, along with the third mug I got for me.

They were surprised! We had a great day shopping and having lunch. It was the perfect way to celebrate Galentines Day!
