Time again for our Stashbuster reporting. It is the last one of the year, but the final year end report will be in January, so your sewing in December counts for this year. Then we will start over again. As the challenge is to complete things for gifts, or to use, this is a great time to finish those UFOs and wrap up the projects in progress.

I finished the Quilt of Valor, so that is a bunch of yardage out. Fabric out = 8-1/2 yards for fabric top (with a bit of waste in the flying geese), backing and binding.

The towel and hot pad count out 1/2-yard.

The placemats were finished in November, six wine theme mats with binding. Total fabric out = 4-1/4 yards.

Fabric ‘in’ was only one yard. Four fat quarters of patriotic fabrics for the Quilt of Valor still in progress.

So, here are my totals for this past month.
November Fabric IN = +1 yard
November Fabric OUT = –13-1/4 yards
November Net Total ( + In, or – Out) = -12-1/4 yards
Year to Date (net total for the year, + In, or – Out) = -21-yards “out”

Remember, it is fine to buy fabric now and then. As Murphy’s Law of Quilting tells us, for every project, you’ll probably need to buy something. It might be another print, or some blender or background neutrals, or backing. This challenge just to keep us mindful to get what we need, but not go overboard.

Well done, Carole! Bravo!
This was an indulgence month. I shopped at the Pineapple Fabrics sale, YIKES! I also added fabrics I got from my aunt as she can no longer quilt. I add these in as I get them washed an on my shelves.
I finished up a weekly Fall sew along quilt and two quilts from classes I took in June. I also made a sweet Christmas wall hanging. I’m working to finish up several small projects for an upcoming sale but those and others likely won’t finish until sometime next year.
November Fabric IN = + 107.625
November Fabric OUT = – 39.75
November Net Total ( + In, or – Out) = + 67.875
Year to Date (net total for the year, + In, or – Out) = -174.625
I hope you have a wonderful Holiday season!
Wow, Carole! 21 yards out – quite an accomplishment. I was hoping to get more out in November & did complete 3 quilts, but there wasn’t much on hand for backings so I caved & bought some wide back yardage. Today I’m stalled at the “quilt as desired” stage, do I go for an all-over swirl or go custom block-by-block? Maybe I’ll just sew what’s on the design wall….no, then I’ll have 2 to quilt as desired and nothing out for stashbusters. Better make up my mind already.
You’re a good example for us all, Carole!
November Fabric IN = +0
November Fabric OUT = –1.75
November Net Total ( + In, or – Out) = -1.75
Year to Date (net total for the year, + In, or – Out) = +8.25
You guys are doing great! I’m still avoid doing any quilting, so no fabric has left the building again this month. I did get finished with a crocheted top that I was completing for a friend. No crocheting on my part…just sewing little doilies into a hexagon pattern that his mom started before she passed away. Glad to have that done.
So, my report this month is 0/0…+3.25 for the year.
I did finally get my Bernina back from the shop. It’s been so long since I have sewn on it, I had to reacquaint myself with it.
November Fabric IN = +0 yds
November Fabric OUT = –2 yds
November Net Total ( + In, or – Out) =-2yds
Year to Date (net total for the year, + In, or – Out) =79 yds.
You had a super month in the “out” department. I’m hoping to get a few more quilts finished before the end of the year.
November Fabric IN = +8.34
November Fabric OUT = –2.4
November Net Total ( + In, or – Out) = +7.94
Year to Date (net total for the year, + In, or – Out) = +462.1 (many wide back bolts)
I apparently needed a break from sewing in November. My year end will be a respectable report though 🙂
I’ve fallen woefully behind in reporting my stash busting. I need to come up with a system for keeping track. You would think as a retired bookkeeper, I’d be good at that!!
Next year, I’ll be better!
Judy, I set up a spreadsheet on my laptop to keep track of mine. Nothing fancy but it works for me.
I absolutely could do that! I shall give it a go! Thanks!
You are very welcome. Since I’m also counting blocks, I have a column for them too. I have a line for the monthly count and also for the yearly count up to each month. It’s just one of my pleasures to figure out how to make things easier for me. 🙂
Hi Judy,
I’m an accountant and use a spreadsheet to keep track of all my ins and outs and craft finishes! Susan
I have tracked but missed reporting sept, oct so will combine with Nov.
Sept out-22 In 0
Net for year + 25.5
Oct out -15.66 in +9
Net for Oct -6.66
Net Oct for year +16
Nov out -16.5 in 13.75
Net fot Nov -2.75
Net for year +13.25
Progress!
I hope I can remember how to do this. It’s been a rough month
November Fabric IN = + 19
November Fabric OUT = – 29
November Net Total ( – Out) = – 10
Year to Date (net total for the year, – Out) = 21

Congratulations on staying in the “out” column, Carole! I’m chipping away slowly but still more going out than coming in. The guild’s free table had several deep blue and red scraps that just grabbed me for future QOV’s.

Fabric Out: -6.5 yds;
November Total: -4.5 yds;
Net Y-T-D Total: -67.75 yds.

I bet you’ll find this hard to believe, but I made 0 (zero) quilts in Nov! Was busy with over 100 Quilts of Valor awards at all the Veterans Day events. Packed enough to fill a 26′ UHaul truck, and spent Thanksgiving in Idaho. lol
You deserve a break now and then!

Carole, Your year total is very impressive. That QOV quilt is so pretty!
I have been working on a baby quilt for a friend’s first grandchild. I was so pleased with my progress, nearly finished with quilting it on my domestic sewing machine, when the day after Thanksgiving – said machine locked up and refused to sew another stitch. So, nothing in the out column for me (again) this month. But nothing in the in column, either. Good news is that my machine has been repaired so I have high expectations of completing the baby quilt before the end of the year, and improving my totals (which will still be on the positive in side).
November Fabric IN = +0 yds
November Fabric OUT = – 0 yds
November Net Total ( + In, or – Out) = +0 yds
Year to Date (net total for the year, + In, or – Out) = +75 yds
Nice finishes Carole, and another QOV in progress too! I didn’t sew on my projects very much this month, but I went through a bit of yarn!🤣
I finished my 5 pillowcases, and made baby steps on the quilting, then stopped to make a bathrobe for my new SIL, per DD’s request. My sis and her DH were here for a late Thanksgiving, so we did it together, which was a treat! The robe was an unplanned purchase and project, but it went out the door in the Christmas box yesterday. After today, things should settle to a quiet roar, so I plan to get back to the quilt. I do have a second piecing project nearly cut, a kit gifted to me a couple years ago, which I will start on Grandma Necchi when I need a break from the anniversary quilt.
November In: 5.25 yards
November Out: 10.25 yards
November Net: -5.25 yards
Year to Date: -37.25 yards
Great progress!! Congratulations.
Hi Carole,
November was a slower month for me…a new floor in my sewing room disrupted sewing plans, as well as a 3-week sinus infection. But, floor is in and I am well, so I’m back to sewing. I did get a few things made in November and bought yardage for a quilt back, and pretty much broke even. I’m planning several days of power sewing this week and next, so I’ll have some finishes to share for December’s count:
November Fabric IN = +3
November Fabric OUT = –3
November Net Total ( + In, or – Out) = 0
Year to Date (net total for the year, + In, or – Out) = -136.25 YTD
What fabulous progress, the new floor didn’t slow you down much with such a great YTD head start! Happy sewing in December.
So I sent some fabric to friend, bought more of the alphabet panels for the baby quilts, and some pieces for backs and another boat project. I am pretty pleased with where this is, especially since my se

Fabric Used November: 10.5 yards
YTD Fabric Purchased: 50.25 yards

Stash busting…… not so much. So much progress and so few finishes.
November Fabric IN = +4
November Fabric OUT = – 5.
5November Net Total ( + In, or – Out) = 1.5
Year to Date (net total for the year, + In, or – Out) =+75
Hang in there!
Well, Dec was a little slim. No new fabric, but did make one cowgirl boot quilt for my granddaughters baby shower tomorrow. It was quilt #78 for the year. And started on another for the next door neighbor due the end of the month. So, finished quilts, I used 7 yards , bringing my YTD total to 777 yards!!!
Apologies for getting several months behind in posting my Stashbusters amounts. Instead of going back and posting for the past few months, September through December 2024, I have simply added those totals. I hope this is acceptable:
Sept through Dec fabric IN: +6 yds. In
Sept through Dec fabric OUT: – 3.50 yds. Out
Sept through Dec TOTAL: – +2.50 yd. Out
2024 YEARLY TOTAL: -10.25 yds. stash Out in 2024
