Finishing The Quilting

After finishing the borders on the Kayla quilt, I loaded it on the longarm for quick quilting. I am using a light sage green Glide thread on top, with a matching green Bottom Line in the bobbin.

The pantograph is one of my favorites for quick finishes called Fascination. It has long sweeping curves, and there are two rows on the paper, so I can quilt two full passes before having to advance the quilt on the frame.

I like how the darker thread disappears on the darker tones and floral prints, while adding interest and texture to the light areas.

In just an hour or so, I am halfway through the quilting.

This is all that is left to quilt after the first afternoon.

Over the weekend, I finished a book I was reading in the fantasy genre called the Foxglove King. It had an interesting concept of a world where magic arises from the ability to channel Mortem, the magic of death, or Spiritum, the magic of life. The main three characters seem fairly well developed. Lore, a girl with power of Mortem, Bastian, the Prince Heir Apparent and Gabriel, a Presque Morte monk come together to investigate suspicious deaths of entire villages. But the supporting cast is one dimensional and a bit stereotyped – an evil King, an Exalted Priest, an adoptive mother figure, various nobles and a few others. The action is predictable, and drags in some spots in a novel of 466 pages that could have been better edited. It also didn’t have the world building that I want in a fantasy novel. It does seem to be a set up novel, as a part of a series mapped out from the beginning, but it wasn’t interesting enough to send me to the library for the second one. Overall, an OK read in the fantasy genre, not bad but not great.

On the sewing table on Saturday, I finished binding the Paris quilt, and it will be part of the Sample Sale coming on Friday.

Yesterday, it was back to the frame again to finish quilting the Kayla quilt. It didn’t take long to quilt the rest and take it off the frame. I used a Quilter’s Dream Blend of 70/30 cotton/poly batting.

I made the binding last week too, so that was put on by machine. The bright green backing has a faux patchwork print, almost makes it reversible.

Completed, and pressed, ready to give to Safelight in September when all the quilts made by our small area group will be collected and delivered.

I have one more to quilt for a friend, and I hope to pick it up soon. When it is done, I’ll be able to turn my attention to my own projects again. What to do next? What are you working on?

Lovely – especially the pretty green backing. It looks so cheerful, sure to brighten somebody’s day. I’m off to sew day with my club, quilting a comfort quilt I need to hand in on Thursday, our final business meeting of the year.

I love your Kayla quilt – such pretty color! That green backing is perfect for it. Having finished a big quilt last week, I’m just playing with this and that this week. I wanted to make a new tablerunner for this time of year with scrappy flags incorporated into it, so that’s turning into the main project.

    Carole,

Your quilt finishing momentum is like a tidal wave coming in! Wow!

Like that green backing. Reversible quilts can change the décor quickly. I have one quilt that has a Christmas themed back and its delightful to see it during the holidays.

I’m working on a mystery quilt that finishes at 60 x 72 inches. On my list today is to figure out the best way to resize this to a generous twin size. I’ll probably do a mock up in EQ before I make any more blocks.

    Happy Stitching!

Always nice to get a quilt off the rails. Kayla is a really cool pattern and showcases the large print nicely. I’ve got a quilt group mtg this morning and then I hope to continue quilting my scrappy tumbler flag. I’d like to have it quilted & bound by next week’s AccuQuilt Club mtg.
