Our block for the July installment of the Teacups Quilt Along takes us back to applique one more time. We have cups, and a kettle for the water, teapots to steep and hold the hot tea. What are we missing?
Well, tea bags of course!! This month, we will applique two teabags on an 8-1/2-inch background.
I’m doing mine in raw edge applique, with the strings embroidered. I’m using Aurifil 12-weight thread for the hand stitched part. I fussy cut the tabs to have little round gold emblems.
The pattern has four pieces, and you’ll need to cut two of each. The pattern is in EQ8, and I’m using the stock applique pattern pieces. One caveat, I’ve included the pattern piece for the little staple at the top, but the seam allowance is bigger than the final piece, so I will embroider mine as I do the strings. I realized that I cut the tabs too big in the photo above, so I trimmed those down to the pattern size before beginning to do the stitching.

I got started, and I really need more practice on my blanket stitch! I tried it both with a hoop and without, and neither is really comfortable. I have one more teabag to blanket stitch in the coming weekend.
One additional note, I’ve been thinking about how long this is going to go, and I think we will go to 16 blocks before doing a run at putting them together.
I hope you had a wonderful July 4th holiday, Happy Stitching!!

Very cute block. Love your fabrics. Thank you for creating such a unique quilt design. Need to hunt down my fabric for this block.
Hello Carole, Tea Bags are a great idea! They are a very important part of any tea party and yet, I do not think they have been included in any of the Tea Themed Quilts that I have come across. You are always right on top of your quilts and make sure everything is included! The fabric you chose is so pretty and soft. I do not have any idea as to what I will choose for this block, but it sure will be fun looking for the right fabric! Just thinking, I do not think I have done last months block yet. LOL. Thank you for this great QAL, Carole! I am truly enjoying it!! Have a fantastic day!
Loving the teabags–that stitching just shows that your teabags have been soaking in a cup lol hugs, Julierose

Love the little tea bags! A great addition to your sampler.
Such cute teabags! One of these days I will make this quilt.
Great idea! And it gets another technique in there with the buttonhole hand embroidery. Cute teabag covers. =) Thank you!
