So, I hope we all went crazy embellishing the stockings from yesterday. How many did you end up with? I have nine.

Now, pull out your larger beads in all kinds of sizes and materials. I have glass ones, plastic ones in all kinds of colors and sizes, bits from broken jewelry, wood and metal beads. Decide the order in which you want to string your stockings. Note that the openings have not been stitched closed. Leave them open for now.

Begin the string at the bottom of the stocking you want on the bottom end. You can use two strands of embroidery floss, one strand of perle cotton, or other similar weight thread. Knot the thread and push the needle from the inside the stocking to the outside. String beads as desired, with something on the end that will allow the thread to turn around and come back through the beads to the inside of the stocking. I used a tassel.

Come back through the beads, and into the stocking. Bring the needle out through the opening, snugging the beads against the stocking.

If you have a long enough needle to go straight through the top of the stocking you can skip this step. But using the longest needle I had that would still go through the beads, I had to bring it out the opening first.

Continue to string your stockings with several beads between each one. I used three beads, but you could use more.

I found it helpful to take a tiny stitch to keep the beads snug against each stocking.

When you get to the top, string several beads on the thread, ending with a ring to allow it to hang. Also, the ring will keep the beads from coming loose. I got the gold cap backwards, but it was easy to un-thread and turn it around.

Loop the thread through the ring, then turn around and thread back through the beads into the stocking.

I put an extra stitch at the top to hold it snug.

Slip stitch all the openings closed.

Voila! All done! Each stocking has embellishment and sparklies, buttons and beads.

I spaced the stocking colors out evenly.

The tassel on the bottom finishes it nicely. Since both sides are embellished, the stockings can turn to the other side, or hang where both sides can be seen.

My strand is 58-inches long with nine stockings. It can hang on a wall, next to a door, or on a hook in the ceiling.

Here are more ideas! String the stockings with beads side by side to make a garland for the tree or mantle. Put a loop on each one to use as tree ornaments. Embroider the year on the white top part and add to the collection every year. This was such a fun project!
