Safelight Project Update

This is just a quick post to let you know that our financial goal for the Safelight Project has not only been met, but well exceeded! This will allow us to do even more good than I had planned. Many generous donations have come in over the past week between paypal and checks arriving in the mail. Thank you all so much! We have enough money to do 100 bags, plus some extra goodies for the shelter residents during the holiday season.

The first order from Dollar Tree for the full size care products has been made and arrival is expected in a few days. I also ordered the canvas bags, and they arrived yesterday. I’ll take 8 of those and add the 8 remaining case sets I have along with cards I’ve made for a delivery hopefully within the next week.

I also found a couple of very nice shaving kit size cases for the men, shown in the picture above. I’ll get the men’s products this coming week as well. Because we have a bit more money, I decided to order a couple of duffle bags for the men so they have something to carry clothing in. I can put the shaving kit inside and make their bags a bit more special. I ordered those yesterday, along with the rest of the bags we need, so I could get them before the price increase. I thought this one looked nice with the pleats on the side, and it was only $14 plus shipping.

I have to get this done before the fair starts! Several of the contributions that have arrived in the past several days have had notes inside saying that the donor was sending money instead of sewing case sets this year. So, I do hope a few of you are still sewing! Please let me know if you are able to sew or make cards for the project. I’ll be making some case sets myself as well, as I usually do. I stamped a bunch of cards in advance this year, so I can do these next 8 bags, plus the two men’s bags, with those.

Once again, I am just blown away by the community we have of readers of my little blog. You all are amazing, and each one of you is a blessing. Thank you!!

Thanks to the generous donors for moving this project along, to the generous sewers and card makers for their case sets and cards, and, most especially, thank you Carole for all you hard work. The timing isn’t great for you, with the fair coming up, but you do what needs doing.

I will be sending close to a dozen sets here in the next week or so. Thank you for organizing all this. I will need an address to mail these to. Thank you.

Carole,  I intended to make more cards,  and instead I’ve been in hospital since Monday night. I will get the ones I have finished sent off to you next week. We are leaving on vacation the following Monday so I don’t anticipate getting much more done. Sorry I can’t help more Niki

  4. I am going to work on case sets. I will try for four; I think I can get those done and to you by October 1. I’ll do more if I get the canning done sooner.

I’ve asked the youth at my church to help construct cards from kits I’m currently cutting. My goal is to have 100 cards made by sept 21st.
