Lemon Twist

I’ve had a lovely two days in the sewing room, and I finally am getting back to the pretty lemon and daisy theme fabrics with the pretty blue mason jars. I have a gorgeous blue with butterflies to go with it, along with another butter yellow with words on it called Zest for Life, and a green that goes with them well. I began this quilt with my Scrap Dance Twist pattern in mind at retreat in March, and made a bunch of half square triangles from those fabrics. The intention was to have it scrappy.

But, I didn’t really get excited about this, and put it aside for a while. When I got it out again this week, I decided that I really wanted to highlight the mason jars, the lemon theme, and the blue fabrics more. So, I have decided to do it in a controlled way and call it Lemon Twist. I needed more HSTs with the blue, so that was the first job.

Once those were done and trimmed, I could assemble the footprint blocks as I already had the squares cut.

The alternate block is all squares, so that was fast as well. I used the web method to assemble the blocks and took them all to the ironing board at once.

The all the horizontal seams were done at once and pressed. I planned to web the final top as well, so I laid it out to be sure I liked the placement of the mason jars. The white background has eight different prints, all tone on tone, and I wanted to try to get them all scrambled as well.

I webbed the rows of four blocks, then lay it out one last time to be sure all was as I wanted it. Looks good.

I sewed the last seams and it is ready for borders. I have to decide if I am going to do the alternate border that completes the lattice included in the pattern.

Scrap Dance Twist is now available on My Patterns page to purchase and download immediately. The pattern includes seven sizes, from table topper up to king size. Click on Buy My Patterns to see it and the other patterns I have designed. The original one was done in scrappy purples and greens. This one is on my bed for summer.

I won’t have much more time to sew this week. Guild meeting is Thursday, and as always, I am looking forward to seeing friends, and visiting the re-home table, LOL! I’m taking in four yards to donate so I’ll have a bit of wiggle room.

What are you doing this week?

  1. I just finished testing 2 tops that used 3 yards of Fat Quarters each. They turned out very nice. One was super fast but the other had lots of seams/points to match. They are now on their way to the designer to add the backing & have them quilted by their longarm quilter.

I had barely finished & we had one of those very quick but seriously heavy rains. My sewing room is in the basement. We watched for flooding in the usual places but didn’t catch the water coming in another place. So my hubby’s workroom, the furnace room & the carpet in a 5′ x 15′ section of my sewing room got wet. So wet vacs, carpet cleaner, & towels were forced into action. Now a total of 3 dehumidifiers are doing what they can to dry it all out. So not much sewing going on in the sewing room for a while.

  2. Beautiful quilt! And I love your choice of colors! This is my first comment, I’m usually “just” a reader, but want to let you know how much I enjoy reading your blogs! And I have read several of your book recommendations and thoroughly enjoyed the books! Thank you for sharing♥️

That is such pretty fabric, Carole! I love blue and yellow together, and I especially like that one that has daisies and butterflies on the blue background. Is that a line of fabric you’re using for this quilt? Scrap Dance Twist looks like the perfect design to feature those pretty prints!

nice fabric and that pattern – I know I made one something like that at one time baby size – I can’t remember who got it when it was finished.

Good thing you waited & reconsidered, this design is fabulous. I may not be impartial, Scrap Dance Twist was the first of your mystery quilts I did as a mystery so it holds a special place in my heart. My club doesn’t have business meetings over summer, but we still have Sit & Sew sessions. I basted 5 quilts at last week’s session. 4 of them are quilted & ready for binding. I didn’t get much done for June’s stashbuster but July is looking good.

Lovely summery prints which must be fun to sew. It makes you want to get it finished because it is so pretty.

Enjoy your Guild meeting and try and restrain yourself at the ‘rehome’ table and have fun with your friends. 😃

That is a pretty quilt you are making and I love the other version on your bed! I am doing this and that after a few days of sew camp on my neighbor’s porch. I have one panel top to quilt and a few more pieces to assemble on my dinosaur quilt. Maybe today I will finish it, but if not it will be next week as we travel for 5 days! Summer is fun but not as much sewing time as I would like.

Carole, you are so creative and talented, hoping to be back following your daily posts after a rather difficult 2 years of losing hubby, fracturing my spine in December, and generally just getting back in the “race” of daily living. You won’t recall, but I won a beautiful set of presser feet in one of your drawings a few years ago, and I think of YOU whenever I use it. Sending a big hug from Oregon, Melanie Tehan :o)

Love your choices of color and design. I’m working on a block of Saturday Sampler project @ local quilt shop; one sew along online, and a counted cross stitch or two. Thanks for your inspiration to keep moving along. Eileen

  10. Love blue and yellow together like this! I just finished my last day of teaching for the week, so tomorrow I hope to sew at least half the day. I have cut out the pieces for 8 mini quilt ornaments and am now embroidering the bottom edge of a top for an embellishment contest. I also have two pillowcases to do for next week, so it looks like ai better get a half day in!

“Blue and Yellow, Kiss your Fella” Pretty quilt! I’ve had company for 7 weeks and have done zero in sewing. Finally got the piles out to remember what I was making in the first place. I owe the kid’s groups at least 2 small quilts and have a new grandniece who is ADORABLE of course and needs a “drag” quilt. Nothing fancy, just something for the floor or the car. Thanks for the inspiration!
