Christmas Projects and QOV Progress

Lots of piddling around was done yesterday, starting with this ornament that I began at the November guild meeting workshop, and didn’t finish. These are easier than they look. Our presenter had done the fabric fusing for us, and cut the basic square shapes. All we had to do was the folding, cutting and gluing.

Next was to glue the pieced together at the sides, making sure all the bits were facing the same way to make the colors alternate.

Pull the bottoms together and begin gluing them. I found gluing half at a time worked well.

Then, glue the final sides together to form the snowflake.

I put mine on top of the little tree on my treadle sewing machine, with a reindeer and the fabric postcard I received from blogger buddy Vicki some time ago.

OK, so now I am in the mood to do a little more Christmas stuff. So, I got out the gift I have for My Sweet Babboo and decided to wrap it.

Oh, squirrel!! See that quilt on the wall with the fall stars behind the table? I had to stop wrapping and take it down. All I have left for a wall hanging is the large table runner I made some years ago with two sizes of blocks. Everything else is hanging elsewhere or on a bed. OK, out came the ladder and I hung it up.

Ah, better. Now I could finish wrapping and tie some ribbons. I made a quick tag on the stamping bench. It is easy to so with a cute scalloped punch, a tree stamp and green ink.

Over the weekend, I finished the Quilt of Valor, just in time for Stashbusters this Friday.

Now, I just need to decide which label will go on it. I have four to choose from.

One of them will go on this quilt, which was pieced by my friend Sheila, and quilted by me. Both of these quilts are slated to be awarded in February at our car club event.

I have some free time this week to sew, and a luncheon on Wednesday. Virtual Retreat is on Thursday, and will be a great day to make progress on the next QOV I have started. I got more blocks done, but I still have a few to go, then I need to assemble the top.

I am planning to get a lot of progress done on our Virtual Retreat Day on Thursday. There is still space available, see the Virtual Retreat Holiday Edition for more info and to register.

On a cold, December day, nothing could be better than a hot bowl of turkey and dumplings. I made this yesterday out of all the leftover trimmings and bones. Yum!

I put my Christmas dishes on green chargers. I didn’t finish the tablescape yet, though. I hope I can have it for you next week. In the meantime, get your totals ready for Stashbusters on Friday!

What are you working on this week? Can you join us for Virtual Retreat?

I love the ornament. Super cute on your tree. My quilt group is doing a pass along project where each person starts with a center block of a quilt, size between 12”-24”. Each month it is passed to a new person who adds on borders or other blocks to grow the quilt. At the end it is returned to the owner to finish. We have never done this before so I am excited to see what happens.
Unfortunately I can’t attend this Thursday as I have to prep for my daughter’s out of town hockey tournament. Hopefully next time you have it I can join in.

  2. Still deciding on the retreat. I can’t even find my head much time these days! But oh, I love everything here. Last night I made your orange pumpkin bread! Averted a disaster right after I put it in the oven — I forgot to put my mise en place in place! (I left out the sugar! I thought the batter tasted a bit dull before I put it in the pans!) Fortunately, I caught the mistake almost immediately and the batter hadn’t started to “bake” yet, so I quickly remedied the situation. (I added pecans, too.) So, taking loaves to friends today and haven’t tried my loaf yet but I’m sure it is delicious.

Love your quilts of valor. And that ornament is lovely!

The star is beautiful, might have to make one in my ‘free’ time. Turkey dumplings sound devine. Chuckling about the quilt switch – you followed through on yours, I left my autumn one up. I’d done enough ‘housework’ for one day. I finished quilting 1 of the 2 quilts I got basted on Saturday – won’t make it in this month’s stashbuster, but a start for next year.

Hi Carole, I’m guessing you didn’t get the e-mail I sent you about the quilts I sent on Saturday via Fed Ex. Two boxes should arrive tomorrow ( Wednesday). I don’t know why there’s a communication problem, very frustrating.
Oh, and I enclosed a few scraps for QOV quilts.

Carole, I received a message yesterday that they were scheduled for delivery then. Kept checking all day but obviously you didn’t get them. Tracking # is 770363880626.
We are on our way to visit family up in state college but I’ll continue to check and will try to phone fedex too .

Carole, I just talked to a person at fedex who is looking into the problem. Will be in touch when I hear from her.
        This is so crazy!

  5. Looks like you have made great progress on the QOV quilts and I hope the virtual retreat on Thursday is productive, too. I’ve been making ornaments for our tiny (4 foot tall) tree and passed on this star as it seemed a bit too large for our cutie, but it looks great on your small tree, so maybe I was wrong on the sizing!
