The next Fall Fortnight free pattern is a bell pull project with fall designs and fabrics. Once again, you can do this pattern in any theme you wish. Get a start on Christmas with holiday themes, make a gift for a friend with a garden or kitchen theme, or make the fall theme like I did.

Here is the project! Download the free pattern – Fall Fortnight Bell Pull. You may recognize these fabrics as the wonderful Benartex line called Harvest Festival, we used them in previous projects and I still have some left.

Let’s Sew!! First, find and embroider a nice sentiment or fussy cut a motif. Trim to 6-1/2-inches square. To answer a question in a comment regarding embroidery, I use two layers of stabilizer on the back, and embroider with rayon threads. If you’ve never used your embroidery function, now is a great time to try it with a small motif.

Next, make a leaf block. You’ll need four half square triangles.

Then sew the stem, and trim carefully, putting the diagonal line on your square up ruler in the center of the stem print.

Assemble the leaf elements and trim to 6-1/2-inches square.

The third block is a pumpkin block. Full instructions are in the pattern. I made my stem brown and used more gold prints for the pumpkin.

Arrange your three blocks with sashing squares between the blocks and on the top and bottom.

Sew the first border with a tone on tone, or other fabric that reads as a solid, so it will not compete with the squares.

Next, make another scrappy border out of the rest of the scrappy squares.

Add triangles to the top and bottom.

Quilt the project. I like to audition colors and choose one that works well with the prints while not overwhelming the embroidery.

Bind as usual. Corners are treated the same for both angles. For a detailed tutorial on this, see my page on Attaching Quilt Binding.

Leave enough space to easily join the ends. For a detailed tutorial on joining binding ends, see my tutorial – Quilt Binding Tutorial Part 3.

Here is the main body done, now just a couple more details.

Add a hanging loop and bottom tassel.

Hang and enjoy.

You will receive the Zoom ID and password in an email after your payment. You can work on whatever you like, not necessarily Fall Fortnight projects. You can sew, knit, paint or just come to chat. Also, you do not need to commit to the whole day, come and go as you can. Oh, and I forgot to mention on Sunday, everyone who registers with the link and comes to the event, even if it is just for a few minutes, will receive a gift and be entered into the Retreat Drawing! Come sew with us!!

Today’s sponsor is Quilter’s Dream! I love their battings, particularly the Dream Green. Dream Green is a soft, cozy batting made 100% from recycled plastic bottles! Dream Green meets the highest standards of quality, function, and performance. It quilts beautifully. Finished quilt may be machine-washed and dried with little to no shrinkage. Dream Green is wrinkle-resistant. Each pound of Dream Green Batting keeps 10 plastic bottles out of our landfills. Plastic bottles are cut into chips, washed, melted and extruded into fine polyester fibers. These recycled fibers are indistinguishable from “virgin” polyester fibers yet are made without depleting our precious natural resources. To avoid additional processing we have kept the soft “natural” green bottle color – but you can rest assured that Dream Green is colorfast and compatible to all your finest quilts and projects. The green color does not show through quilting cottons, even white! I often say that while recycling is important, we must create a market for the recycled goods in order to keep it viable. Find Dream Green batting on Amazon.

For Fall Fortnight, Quilters Dream will send a twin size Dream Green, Dream 80/20, and Dream Bamboo to one winner! Visit QuiltersDreamBatting.com to see all their offerings.
To enter the drawing, just comment with the Dream batting you’ve not yet tried that you would like to try. You’ll have a week to enter.
Good morning!
I love the fall theme but have an idea for making a Christmas one to display some favorite ornaments.
I love their batting but haven’t tried the Green. Thank you to both you & Quilter’s Dream.
I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s retreat!
Me too, I hope it will be a fun day!! I’m also planning a Christmas theme bell pull project for later.
I love quilters dream batting. The wool is my favorite. I’m surprised at how many I haven’t tried. The poly in midnight black is on my list as I have a mostly navy blue quilt that will be ready for quilting soon
I really like Quilters Dream Batting. Haven’t used their Bamboo batting yet but it’s on my list. The Fall Fortnight Bell Pull is such a clever idea. I think I need one for each of our four seasons.
I’ve been meaning to try the Green Dream from Quilter’s Dream batting. I liked the idea that it uses recycled plastic bottles and doesn’t show fold marks as well. Also I’m interested in seeing the thickness compared to cotton batting.
I’m so thankful that you’re fine and your property is doing ok.
I love the bell pull. It would also make a great table runner. Oh those pumpkin and leaves get me going!! I still have my “autumn jubilee” tote with parts and pieces cut and ready to stitch. Can’t join the sew along day tomorrow as I have a Queen Bee’s quilt bee . HAVE FUN!
I would love to try the Dream Bamboo!
I’ve not tried the Dream Green or Dream Bamboo. The bell pull is lovely. Thanks for all you do Carole
That is a really pretty design! I always love your scrappy maple leaves and pumpkins. I’ve never tried Dream Green batting, but would really like to!
I would love to try the Dream Green or the Dream Wool batting. Thanks for doing this event and thanks to your sponsors as well!
I like using Dream batting and would like to try the wool. Thanks!
I, too, like Quilter’s Dream batting. I would like to try both their Green and Bamboo.
Carole,
Quilter’s Dream Blend 70/30 for machines is one of the battings I have not tried. I have used the Quilter’s Dream Cotton for many years and just started with the Dream 80/20 Blend. However thought trying the 70/30 for machine quilting would also be a good option.
Blessings,
Beverly Smith
Carole,
The Fall Fortnight Bell Pull is lovely. Thank you for the instructions as I would like to make one also. I enjoy all that you share with us via e-mail.

Carole,
I just signed up for the retreat tomorrow. For the electronically challenged, I do not have a wordpress account. Do I need to start one, or was just registering enough?
Thank you,
Beverly
Registering is enough, you don’t need a wordpress account. You will get the Zoom information in a confirmation email when payment is complete. You do need to have the Zoom app on your computer. Go to https://zoom.us/download, choose the one that works with your computer and download it so you can join the retreat. You don’t have to create an account with Zoom either, just get the app and sign in with the credentials in the email.
Wow, that bell pull is eye catching. I especially liked the top loop and the bottom tassel. Thanks for sharing your project. I haven’t used this line of batting. The Dream Cotton would be my choice to try first.

Carole !
so glad you’re safe from the storm and back to creating!!
I love the bell pull …but would leave it without the triangles and use as a table runner ! Such an easy pattern to figure out …
I have used the dream bamboo …but have not tried the dream green ….would love to try that !!
thanks for all the ideas !!!
I have used the green Quilter’s Dream and liked it very much! I would like to try the Bamboo.
I’ve never used the brand, so I’d love to try any of them. I’m really curious about the green product.
Carole,
Your bell pull is beautiful! Especially like the loop for hanging and the tassel which gives it a polished finish.
Dream 80/20 and Dream Wool are my two favorite battings! Sometimes, we use them together for stitch definition second to none. I’d like to try the bamboo.
I hope you and your readers have lots of fun and laughter at your virtual retreat!
Jo Anne
Thanks so much – pulled all the fabric – now to find the time!!!!!
I would love to try the Dream Bamboo
batting! Love the bell pull!
The bell pull is a cute and different project idea. I would definitely like to try the Dream Green batting as I am always interested in recycling.
Isn’t the bell pull a lovely idea? And as you said, it can be made for any theme.
I will have to imagine living in a stately home where there are bells to ring for all the assistance I need.
Not likely to happen.
I love the new wall hanging. It looks so fresh and crisp for fall. I have not tried bamboo batting and have heard it is great to work with. Thanks
That’s so pretty. It would make a lovely table runner. The embroidery looks great.
I love using the Quilters Dream battings. Everything goes so well and the quilts lie so flat, especially nice for runners and wall hangings.
Thanks for the Bell Pull pattern. I would like to try out the Quilters Dream bamboo batting.
Love the bell pull pattern and as we just moved I have the perfect place for one! Yes!! Thank you so much for that! I wish I could attend the virtual but had work and previous plans. But I want to make the bell pull for sure. I really would love to try the Dream Green batting!
I mostly use Quilters Dream cotton. I didn’t even know they had a green batting.
I love Quilters Dream. I have never tried Quilters Dream Wool and I have been wanting to try it for a long time.
Your bell pull is charming! I would love to try the Quilter’s Dream Wool… I have worked with other brand of wool batting so would love to see how their’s compares.
I would like to try the Wool batting. Thank you Quilters Dream and Carole.

I love Quilters Dream 80/20, and would live to try the Green. Thank you for your wonderful ideas, Carole!
Love the door pull. I am a huge fan of Quilter’s Dream batting but have never tried the bamboo so I think that would have to be the one I would like to try. And how dreamy would that be in my Pumpkin Stars quilt.
I need to make a bell pull like this! What a unique idea!
I’d like to try Quilter’s Dream Bamboo batting! I’m sure it would be a dream to quilt with!
I do love that bell pull! And, funny, I have never tried the bamboo batting!
