Fall Warm Up Projects, Scrap Dance Quadrille, and Virtual Retreat!

Time to sew this week is nice. I decided to start with a quick project in fall colors as a warm up project. I saw this pattern at my local quilt shop and had to get it. This wonderful stripe fabric is left over from last year’s fabric feature by Benartex, the line is Harvest Festival, but sadly is out of print. Still, this quick runner can be made with any stripe design. The pattern is Easy Striped Table Runner by Karen Montgomery, available in her Etsy Store HERE (no affiliation but the pattern is on sale now until Oct 1).

She goes into nice detail about how to line up the fabrics and make the cuts so the prints line up properly. You’ll need a 60-degree ruler (I like THIS ONE from Creative Grids at Fat Quarter Shop).

Once you get your wedges cut, lay out the slices and look at the design. Now is the time to swap some around if you want.

Use pins to make sure the stripes stay together well as you sew.

Once all are sewn together, it is ready to quilt. This was a really fast project, perfect as a warm up for the Fall Fortnight projects I’ll start on next.

At least one will have some embroidery. But I’ll also have alternative ideas for those without embroidery machines.

Now, the big news! I finally have the pattern completed for Scrap Dance Quadrille, thanks to my ace technical editor Mary Ellen. I know some have been waiting a long time, and I apologize for the delay. But it is here now! The pattern is simple to construct, and a confident beginner can do it easily.

The pattern has six sizes from table topper up to king size. It includes instructions for the first border that completes the hourglass elements. Go to My Patterns page and click on the button to pay with a credit card. You will receive a receipt via email with a link to download the pattern. If you prefer to use paypal, just send me an email and I can invoice you. For a one week only, I am offering this pattern at an introductory price of just $8.00!! On October 1, the price will go up to 9.50, just like all my other Scrap Dance patterns. Buy now to save 15%.

On to Fall Fortnight! I’ve set the dates, and it will begin on October 6, running to October 20. I’ll have a free pattern pdf for you on the first day so you can begin sewing right away. I also have some prizes from my affiliate vendors, and they are pretty great. Then, more fun…

The Virtual Retreat is on for Thursday October 10! We will have our retreat during Fall Fortnight and work on projects together while chatting away. Click on my Fall Fortnight Virtual Retreat page to register. So, mark your calendars, and make time to sew some free projects and patterns in just a couple of weeks.

Are you ready for fall sewing?

Dang, dang, dang – as opposed to ding, ding, ding! I have an appointment on the 10th & can’t join the retreat 《:-( The table topper is so pretty. I have a round table so it’s always nice to have this shape rather than a runner. My embroidery library is limited, but fall motifs are available. I mostly use that machine to label quilts, it’s always nice to have another reason to play.

    Carole,

I am getting into fall sewing. Just finished embroidering the linen runner for my nephew’s wedding. The rag quilt was a birthday gift for my husband. I’m also doing some Christmas sewing- making a tree skirt for the same nephew. I’m trying to make items they will use for years and remember that Aunt Beverly made them.

Lovely demo today. I have made a similar table topper with strip sets. I’ ve just finished some Karen Montgomery runners- the last two pics. They were cut at the same time making them have different centers. Notice one has a green center and the other a white center.

I enjoy our e-mail and pictures. I live in the Charlotte area, so not too far away.

    Blessings,

    Beverly

    Good morning Carole

    and others.

I am looking forward to Oct 6 and a new project to get me back into the sewing swing.

My Summer sewing has been slow with a couple of scrapy lap quilts to donate, “Sleep in Heavenly Peace” are happy with all donations of any size.

    see you October 6

Love your table topper. I am definitely in the mood for some autumn sewing. I pulled out the quilt that we started in the Autumn Jubilee 2023, and I am determined to get it completed this year. I only have the pumpkins and apples to complete the top.
So looking forward to what you have in store for us this year.

I won’t be able to make the virtual retreat. I’m out of town that day. Looking forward to the other activities.

That is a pretty tabletopper – I enjoyed seeing how it was made! Cute pumpkin embroidery, too. I’m looking forward to your Fall Fortnight posts!

  7. Hi Carole,

Love the EAsy Striped Table Runner. I have made several of those and use my even-feed walking foot to construct the top. Perfect design match every time! Can’t wait for your Fall event!

Love your runner – I have made a few of those and am always happy with them (and the bonus piece). Hooray for a pattern finish and getting ready for Fall Fortnight. We have some people in town, not sure of our obligations, so I don’t think I will make the sew along…maybe next one!
