Our guild meeting was this week, and our Worldwide Quilting Day committee could finally announce the theme. The theme is “It’s My Birthday!” I got the three of us little birthday crowns at the dollar store, and we found this great party theme fabric at Foust for the challenge fabric.

My friend, Gail, made this great board to have at the table where we were selling the fabrics. Participants can use the gemstones and/or flowers of their birth month, their zodiac sign, their favorite cake or meal, a memory of their best birthday, or their vision of the perfect celebration. Or whatever they can come up with. It seemed to be a hit, as we had 37 people sign up during the break!

Of course, guild meeting also means the freebie table will be overflowing. Look at the great haul I got! Three books, a quilting DVD, some notions, buttons, threads and batting.

OK, yes, some fabric made its way into my bag. I couldn’t help it. The rose print on the left in fall colors is a rayon, perfect for new pajama bottoms. There are 2-1/2 yards, plenty for the project. The green on the right is a gorgeous Asian brocade, one yard of wide width fabric should be plenty for a sleeveless shell for the holidays.

It was impossible to photograph. The base color is a deep sage green, with raised gold printed symbols and leaves. Gorgeous.

I spent a half day putting away all the fair things, and taking temporary sleeves off the entries so I can use them again next year.

Then, I spent two whole days working on a secret project. I’ll show it to you a bit later, but it involved making some flying geese.

I just discovered the neatest new thing from Electric Quilt, for those who already own the software – Check out the new 40-page guide to Deep Dive Fabrics, Panels and Photos. Learn to scan fabrics from your stash, photograph fabrics using a phone or camera, and download fabric images from a manufacturer’s website. Then understand editing options for your images so that the quilt on your screen accurately represents how your quilt will look when it is sewn together. BONUS: Exclusive access to supplemental videos for extra help! At just 21.95, it is a great bargain! If you don’t have EQ8, see a short demo video *HERE* to see how it works. We’ll be using a design I created on EQ8 for the Fall Fortnight Quilt Along.
So, a bit of sewing, two ideas for fall projects in my head may get some progress made this coming week. Tomorrow is a car show, so I’ll be out all day with that. What are your weekend plans?
