Stamping Quilty Cards

At the upcoming Garden of Quilts show, the Quilt Shoppe will feature handmade items by our guild members. I thought it would be fun to make cards with sewing and quilting themes. I did some for the show two years ago and sold out in a hurry. So this time, I am making more cards and doing more variety in sentiments. One bit of feedback I got was that people wanted birthday cards, so I’ll make more of those.

I’m stamping something sewing related on pretty pattern papers, adding frames and details to make them special. Little sewing machines or button stamps add that quilting or sewing theme.

More cards with simple designs using button stamps on the top of the left one to simulate printed paper. On the right, a textured white background frames a birthday wish. Inside, it says “May your bobbin always be full.”

I like this set called Sewing Delights, now discontinued. It has two pincushion designs, thread spools and buttons, along with a ‘handmade’ stamp.

Last time, all the cards were blank inside. This year, some will have sentiments inside, and I have stamped a little piece of paper to put on the backside to show what the sentiment on the inside says. Most will still be blank on the inside, so shoppers can have a choice. I’m also putting the envelope inside the card so the backside of the card can be seen. All are packaged in cello bags.

I added sentiments from other stamp sets for these two cards. I layered printed papers with bars of tone on tone papers.

Using the same pincushion stamp, I add different sentiments and a variety of floral papers for these cards. A thread stamp adds more interest to the one on the left. On the right, a cute button gives some dimension to the card.

Another discontinued set with a bunch of fun sayings called Quilting Friends, and a new pack of papers called Quilted Grunge were up next.

This is sentiment is funny, isn’t it? I love the paper paired with the stamps.

So, the goal is to fill this basket. I have lots of time to get more done. I’ve cut up cards I’ve received to use some of those elements again. My goal is to have at least 40-45 cards made by mid-May for sale at the show. It will help use up some of that stash of paper and card stock, and give me some cash to buy more envelopes. I run out of those most often. The great thing is I can use what doesn’t sell myself, either to send to friends or use with the Safelight Project.

Would you buy handmade sewing or quilting themed cards at a show?

  1. These are darling, Carole. (Do you need more pretty papers — I’m happy to provide.) I love the sentiments and the idea of putting the inside words on the back in an insert is a terrific one.

The cards are so special. I know they will be a big hit. I love making cards, too. I know how much they are appreciated.

Your cards are so fun, Carole! I would definitely buy some for my quilting friends. I know you don’t have an Etsy shop, but would you consider selling them on your blog for faraway friends?

That’s a hard question, since I use both! Probably blank inside would be the best choice. It’s those sewing themed stamps that got me!

You have inspired me to buy some stamps and make some cards. I made New Year and Valentine cards to send to friends.
