We have extra funds for the Safelight project, so I put some to use this week to make Valentine gifts for the current residents of the shelter. They had 20 adults, so I made 22 gifts just in case they needed more by the time I could deliver them. I found some fun things to include.

These little felt fortune cookies had wonderful fortunes inside. The sentiments were perfect for this project, so encouraging.

I wanted to include a card inside, so I got out my inspirational stamps and looked them over for just the right thing to say. For a day dedicated to couples (or in the case of ‘galentines’, friends) this one seemed appropriate. It is a large stamp, so the Stamping Platform came in handy again.

This sentiment is from IOStamps, along with the red ink. I stamped 22 sentiments on light yellow patterned paper.

I mounted the sentiment, then added some skeleton leaves (thanks, Jeanie!), a pink ribbon and a sparkly heart.

On the back, a sweet angel says ‘hand stamped with love’.

The design finished, I began assembly of 22 cards. This took an afternoon. It was a wonderful stress reducer as it didn’t take a lot of thought to copy the design 21 more times.

The envelopes were stamped with another sentiment.

Now, for the bags. I used my Stampin’ Up roller to put a row of hearts down the left side of the bag front.

This adorable stamp called Darby Love is discontinued. He is just so cute though, with his head cocked to the side and the heart hanging off his ear.

Another sentiment is added to the bag in purple ink.

I added butterfly from a Stampin’ Up set in gold just for a bit more color. In no time, I had 22 bags done.

In the mail last week, I received these marvelous handmade soaps from Heather and Darlene. They came in several colors, all with a bit of glitter in the soap cakes. I pulled out 22 of the pink ones, and decided to wrap them with freezer paper. The white paper with a sparkly heart sticker gives the soap a feeling of a gift.

It didn’t take long to wrap all 22 bars. I placed all the elements for the bags on the table, and sat down to begin assembly.

Each bag contains a heart shaped box of candy, a heart necklace, a fortune cookie, a bar of handmade soap and a card.

In half an hour, they were all ready for delivery.

I delivered them this morning. Clara was happy to have them, and said to thank all of you for your wonderful contributions. She is sure they will lift spirits this week.

What are your plans for Valentine’s Day?

This is so kind of you to lift up the spirits of other women in a challenging situation. The package is full of so many pretty things!
Those bags are just wonderful. Were your ears ringing today? At the Assisted Living facility where I work, I was speaking with my Executive Director about doing some charitable projects for our local Domestic Abuse shelter. we’ve done things before, but she is new to our facility. I mentioned the Safelight project that you do and a few others. She liked the idea of our residents getting more involved in giving back, but the discussion didn’t get much further than that. I’m always so grateful to be even a small part of an effort like you’re doing. When I turned 40, I also made bags for this local shelter here. Instead of gifts for me, I asked people for toothpaste, shampoo, towels etc. I recall one friend bringing a dozen Dunkin’ Donut gift cards to add to each bag. Such thoughtful touches are why the world needs more people like you to keep us all going!! I have to think of some projects for my residents for later in the spring. You are so inspiring…I even bring you into my work discussions!! Thanks for sharing this little Valentine’s project. It’s just a great and wonderful way to remind other that they are not alone!
Carole, You are so good hearted. Hugs……
Awesome, what a wonderful thing to do! Such a lovely gift.
You are so sweet to remember the residents on this occasion, Carole. Very nicely done. I hope it lifted their spirits.
