The Irresistable Blueberry Bakeshop and Cafe

This hilarious novel begins with our heroine falling into the bay from a rotting dock. She is rescued by your standard hunk and becomes something of a local celebrity. Pretty good work for an afternoon, when she only planned to stay one night. Ellen Branford is a New York attorney who comes to the sleepy town of Beacon, Maine to deliver a letter. The letter was written by her grandmother to a man she knew long ago. But that turns out not to be as easy as it seems. As Ellen tries to locate the intended recipient, she discovers her grandmother had secrets. When her fiancé shows up, and then her mother, things really get complicated, in a really funny way.

This novel is totally predictable, beginning to end, but who cares! You will figure out the secret easily. No great mystery here, but I don’t think it is meant to be. It is a delightful, funny book, written in an easy-reading style. It is a celebration of a simple life, finding joy in the everyday, like finding a little bunch of blueberries in a field that hasn’t grown them in years. This is a perfect summer read, when you don’t want to have to concentrate too hard. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
