Blue Hurricane Quilt

I have finally finished the last quilt I will do for the Carolina Hurricane Quilt Project, a lovely top of blue fabrics pieced by Darlene Cooley.  It reminds me of the ocean.  I loaded it with a lovely Quilter’s Dream batting donated by Susan at Desert Sky Quilting.

It is a neat pattern, with strips set in a rail fence design with navy HSTs forming a diamond.

It was loaded it on the longarm.

Quilting was fairly quick, using the Fascination pantograph.

I used navy blue Glide thread in the top and navy Bottom Line in the bobbin.

The quilting brings softness to the piecing.

It adds to the feeling of swirling water, doesn’t it?

In just a few sessions, it was done and removed from the longarm, ready to trim.

I looked in my stash for something to bind it, but I didn’t have one single thing that looked good.  I was going to have to go to the store and haul it with me to match, when I got the idea to ask Darlene if she had any of the navy fabric left.

Luckily, she did, and she mailed me enough strips to do the binding.  I finished it by machine.

The Carolina Hurricane Quilt Project page has been updated.  The program is almost done, and final drop off dates have been posted for every quilt shop.  These dates cannot be extended as they are dependent on our runner’s schedules.  Hendersonville, Raleigh and Charlotte deadline is August 1.  Fayetteville is August 15th.  The northern coast store is September 1, as that runner will be going a bit later.   If you complete a quilt after those dates, you may mail quilts to the Wilmington address through 2020.  The longarmer help part of the program has ended.  Thank you to all the longarm quilters who have helped me with this project.  It has been almost a year of coordinating this project, and I will leave the page up for a few months in case others find it later.

This one turned out nicely, and I am glad to have it for the project.  What do you think of our progress with the program?
